Digital Online Learning• More than an broadcast channel – A conversation• Listening and learning as well as sharing• Building relationships / opportunities for collaboration• Training open 24/7• Content generated in a peer network by the learners, for the
learners based on experience rather than theory
“There's a world of information out there. Stop waiting for someone to "train" you, and get out there and find the information.”
Quote from survey
Different approaches to learning• Some see as something to be completed sitting in a classroom
under guidance of a teacher while for others it's intuitive, flexible & organic.
• Doesn’t have to be completed at a designated time or in a specific format.
• Each and every day we learn something new …

...but do we take this further and seek out new ways of informal learning & learning on-line?
Do you learn online?
• What are your favourite ways of learning to support your work (on or offline)?
• Survey – March 2012
Survey about use of social media / digital learning• Per week 47% of people spent 1 to 2 hours learning online
Survey about use of social media / digital learning• But lack of time was biggest barrier to do more (60% of replies)
Digital Skills to find out answers
• 16 million people lack digital skills to be effective online (Go-On - Oct 2012)
• 56% of charities see a 'need for training' as the biggest barrier to their effectiveness (Lasa - Oct 2012)
But of those who are already on-line • 87% said they used digital learning to answer a specific
question / solve a problem (NCVO - March 2012)
There are clearly gaps in skills distribution but a range of different methods for maximising digital and learning
