WHAT IS DIGITAL INDIADigital India is an ambitious programme of

Government of India projected at Rs. 1,13,000 corers. The main purpose is to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving the online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity or by making the country digitally empowered in the field of technology.

47% of world’s population and 70% of the world’s poor people live in villages.

69% of India's population lives in villages, many without basic amenities such as electricity, cooking fuel, toilets and road connectivity

However, to implement this vision in a country where most of the population resides in rural areas is very challenging.

It can be done by creating Digital “Town Squares” – that enable the Smart Village by providing information, e-learning and e-governance services to villages. This can become the spring board for rapid economic growth in the rural areas.

Smart India is a campaign launched by the Government of India to ensure that Government services. It was launched on 1 July 2015 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative includes plans to connect rural areas with high-speed internet networks. Digital India consists of three core components. ProjectThe Government of India entity Bharat Broadband

Network Limited which executes the National Optical Fibre Network project.

The 2016 Union budget of India announced 11 technology initiatives including the use data.

This will provide the first basic setup to achieve towards Digital India and is expected to be completed by 2017.

PillarsThe Government of India hopes to achieve growth on

multiple fronts with the Digital India Programme. Specifically, the government aims to target nine 'Pillars of the Digital India' that they identify as being: Broadband Highways Universal access to Internet Public Internet Access Programme e-Governance – Reforming Government through Technology Information for all Electronics Manufacturing Digital or IT for Jobs Early Harvest Programme

PartnershipsDigital India Week: The top CEOs from India and abroad committed to invest Rs. 224.5(lakh crore) towards this initiative.Silicon Valley: Leaders from silicon valley, san Jose, California expressed their support for digital India during PM visit in 2015.Campaign: Times Now and ET Now have announced the launch of the second edition of Digital India Summit and Awards on 22 March 2016.

Performance: On 28 Dec 2015, the panchkula District of Haryana was awarded for being the top performing district in the state under the Digital India campaign.
