There's an old poem by Neruda that Ive always beencaptivated by, and one o the lines in it has stuck withme ever since the frst time I read it. It says "love is soshort, orgetting is so long." It's a line Ive related to inmy saddest moments, when I needed to know someoneelse had elt that exact same way. And when we'retrying to move on, the moments we always go backto aren't the mundane ones. They are the momentsyou saw sparks that weren't really there, elt starsaligning without having any proo, saw your uturebeore it happened, and then saw it slip away withoutany warning. These are moments o newound hope, extreme joy, intense passion, wishul thinking, and insome cases, the unthinkable letdown. And in my mind, every one o these memories looks the same to me. I seeall o these moments in bright, burning, red.

My experiences in love have taught me difcult lessons, especially my experiences with crazy love. The redrelationships. The ones that went rom zero to a hundredmiles per hour and then hit a wall and exploded. Andit was awul. And ridiculous. And desperate. Andthrilling. And when the dust settled, it was somethingId never take back. Because there is something to besaid or being young and needing someone so badly, you jump in head frst without looking. And there'ssomething to be learned rom waiting all day or a trainthat's never coming. And there's something to be proudo about moving on and realizing that real love shinesgolden like starlight, and doesn't ade or spontaneouslycombust. Maybe Ill write a whole album about thatkind o love i I ever fnd it. But this album is about theother kinds o love that Ive recently allen in and out o.Love that was treacherous, sad, beautiul, and tragic. But most o all, this record is about love that was red.
