Digipak Ideas: Initial Sketches

Yasmin Belkhayat

Idea One: I initially thought it would be a god idea to have a swirl of the sea of thorns on the panel that shall be holding the CD because it links in with the front cover and fits with the shape of the CD. I then thought, why not expand the spiral so that it unified all three inside panels to create a flow throughout out the artwork. I think this works better however I am going to put it to the target audience in order to get a different opinion.

Back Cover: In order to keep in tune with the nautical style I decided to use the flag of the crows nest to place the lyrics upon.

Inside Cover: In order to give the audience to learn more about the band and the process involved in making the album a film reel page with images of the band in the recording process and hanging out.

Front Cover: Through research, I found that a common feature of folk rock digipak's was to have artwork which reflects the artists personality. To make it relevant to the artists name I decided to have a sea of thorns in order to to link ‘Jamie Thorn’ and the ‘mystery pacific’ together.

Inside Cover: I decided to expand the film reel idea I had in digipak one to cover two panels. As I thought it would look good once the front cover was opened up. It would also allow for more space for photos. Inside cover Back Cover Front Cover

Idea One: I thought it would be quite effective to continue the artwork that has been used on the front cover and use it on the inside but in the form of a spiral due to the fact that that is where the CD shall be held. Instead of having the spiral continue onto the other two panels it may look better as the three panels are clearly separate and contain different information.

Back Cover: I decided to keep the idea of a flag on the back cover to list the songs on to keep in theme with the rest of the digipak. However I did a close up in stead of showing the crows nest to see how it looks.

Front Cover: Similar to the back cover, I played around with the theme and changed the font and layout to see what looks best. I prefer the font used in this front cover as it fits in better with the artwork.

For the inside right cover I thought it best to keep some continuity by having a line of thorns down the left hand side as if the spiral came off the page and back onto the next panel. I decided to keep it simple by using a classic layout of having the text centered and title above.
