Digipak Ideas

This is the template which I will be using for the digipak.

Initial ideas This would be the CD disk. Here I would need to put information about the songs, so this would be the copyright information for each song etc. The colours would match the album cover. The main spine will have the name of the album on then, and will match the colour scheme of the album. As the album would be a compilation of songs from different artists, I wouldnt be able to have the artist be the focus of the front. I could try creating a cover that includes photos of all of the artists, or I could use a photo that represents the album. These two spaces are where I would put the track list, with the CD on the back cover, and the DVD on the left, so that its on the back of where the DVD would be. The image will run over the spine, which will have the name of the album on it, and cover both spaces. In order to make the album appear cohesive, the chosen image will be in the same style as the front cover. This disk space is for the DVD, so it will look similar to that of the CD. Ill include all of the information, like copyright, and the colour would match the space for the CD.The centre will be a photo that represents the feel that the album has. It will be in a similar style to the covers for cohesion.

Front coverAs the album is a compilation album, theres different ways that I could design the cover of the album. Unlike a normal album cover, there wouldnt just be one artist on the cover as this wouldnt represent the album as a whole. I decided to research albums similar to mine to see what kind of covers are often used.

This is the first style of cover that I found was commonly used. Multiple images are included, showing the biggest artists whose songs are on the album. Whilst this does represent the album well, I dont think that it would work for my album. The artists photos are used as a marketing tool for the album, to persuade people to purchase it, as theyre big artists who are recognisable. My album wont be big artists, so this wouldnt work for my album.

The other style of album that I found has no artist images. Instead, it focuses on the image, in this case graphic art that represents the album. I think that this would work better for my album, as I could catch the eye of the audience with the artwork, which would make them curious about the album. This would work much better than the previous idea.

Featured artistsThis is the layout that I would like my album cover to have. The black box represents the artwork, which will be the background image and will fill the cover. I think that I want the artwork to be a photograph rather than graphic art, as I feel that I will best be able to represent my album this way. The name of the album will be in the centre of the cover in large text and a bold font, in order to make it stand out and be the focal point, so that it catches the eye of the audience. At the bottom, I will name some of the featured artists, as the album is also for previous fans of the genre, so I want them to be able to see who is included on the album.

Back coverThe back cover of the album is where the CD track list will be. I plan to make the image for this cover the spine between the back cover and the space next to it, which I will use for the DVD track list. The reason I plan to use this space is that, when the digipak is folded, the DVD track list will be just under the front cover, so that when the cover is opened its the first thing that you see. However, the main track list will be on the back as this is the convention of album covers. In order to ensure that the audience know about the DVD extras, I will leave a note on the back cover to tell them.

Album name

Record label, publishing company, copyright informationThe image here will also be a photograph in order to keep the album looking cohesive. It will be one that matches the colour scheme of the front cover, and is a similar style, so that they work well alongside each other. Both track lists will be down the centre, as this will make them the focal point. Each track name will be on a new line, in order to make the different names clear and not confuse the new audience. The tracks will be numbered down the left, and will have the time of their length down the right. As the bottom of the back cover, I will have information about copyright, and the companies involved in the release of the album, as this is a convention of albums. The album name will be on the spine in the same font as the other spine in the digipak.Back cover
