DIFFERENT MUSIC MAGAZINE GENRES

I have researched into the different genres of music magazine to help give me inspiration to choose what genre I would like to use for my own music magazine. I have looked into their target audiences and colours schemes used

throughout the genres, this will help me when I come to design my own.

Hip hop genres

The SourceColour Palette- the colour shows that it is more of a hip hop magazine by using colours green and black connotes with money since in America they use dollars and are green and black showing successful and wealth he is.Image- the image on the cover shows that it is a magazine for youth age as the image is more subculture in hip hop that many youth find their way in rap. Here’s Kendrick Lamar looks like a king as they call him ‘Compton's crown jewel ‘ wearing the crown connote with gangster and hood look and also the royalty whilst wearing the crown. This is appealing to the young audience who admire the lavished lifestyle led by successful people.Text- the font on this cover looks been used to convey masculinity therefore appealing to a male audience or a youth age group and also the ‘THE’ has been rotated which creates a more casual appearance which could therefore a appeal to a target audience of a young adult.Audience- again, this is clearly aimed towards to young audience.

Pop genres

Q MagazineColour Palette- The colour shows that it is more of a rock magazine by using colours red and black. Image- The image on the cover shows that it is a magazine for older people as the image is seductive. She is made to look like she is a rock singer even though she isn't.Text- The font on this magazine is a lot more organised as it is for older people. It isn't as hectic.Audience- The audience for this magazine is clear as she is made to look sexy by having red lips, this will more likely attract men.

RnB Genres

VIBE –Colour palette- the colour on this cover suggests its a RnB magazine by using the colour white, red, black, green and yellow.Image- In this image, the image is centred which is a long shot image of RnB singer Chris brown. With a star persona of Chris Brown on the front of vibe magazine it will attract an audience of mostly teenage girl as Chris Browns style of music relates to young girls .Text- The font on this magazine stands out as the bold masthead its make the buyer known instantly what magazine it is, this will also draw people into buying the magazine. The headline is used for marketing the magazine it uses catchy phrases or slogans to attract the target audience into buying it.

Most of the R&B magazines are either very bright or very dark and scary. The master head stands out from the background but the main image covers most of it on most of the R&B magazines. They used a large main image that covers the whole page front page.

Audience - The main target audience for R&B magazines would be teenagers, judging from the type of language used in these magazines and also the image used on the front is always of the latest new R&B singers, which the younger generation like to listen to.

Rock Genres

Rolling Stone Colour palette- The colour on this cover suggests it is a rock magazine by using black, red and grey.Image- In this image she is pulling at her clothes, this is seductive and also most likely aimed at men.Text- The font on this cover looks quite vintage, this shows it is for older people.Audience- Again, this is clearly aimed towards men as she is pulling her top down.
