Session I Fridays Mar 6, 13, 20, 27, Apr 3, 17 1:00 - 3:00 $48.00 (Good Friday April 10)

Session II Fridays Apr 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 1:00 - 3:00 $48.00 SESSION I– Russell Crowe

1. L.A. Confidential 1997. Early 50s Los Angeles. Unrelenting sunshine, alluring glamour, easy money and a burgeoning industry called Hollywood. The entire country is transfixed by the seductive City of Angels. But beneath the gleaming surface lies a corrupt soul. Russell Crowe. Kim Basinger. Kevin Spacey. Guy Pierce. James Cromwell. 2. The Insider. 1999. When former tobacco executive Dr. Jeffrey Wigand (Crowe) agrees to blow the whistle on the alleged unethical practices within the industry, and forms an alliance with veteran 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino), he starts an all-out war that could cost both men their reputations…and much more. Based on a true story. 3. A Beautiful Mind. 2001. Crowe in an astonishing performance as brilliant mathematician John Forbes Nash, Jr., who made an astonishing discovery early in his career and stood on the brink of international acclaim. But soon, he found himself on a painful and harrowing journey when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. After many years of struggle, he eventually triumphed over this tragedy, and finally, late in life, received the Nobel Prize. Based on a true story. 4. Cinderella Man. 2005. Based on the riveting true story of James Braddock (Crowe), a 1930s boxer forced into early retirement due to a hand injury. The film explores the struggles and hardships ordinary American citizens faced during the Great Depression. Braddock would defy the odds and stun the world with one of the greatest comebacks in history. 5. A Good Year. 2006. Max (Crowe) is a highly successful investment expert with no time outside work. When his estranged uncle dies, he inherits the vineyard where he grew up as a child. Forced to spend time in Provence, he re-discovers a part of himself, and experiences romance with a beautiful French woman (Marion Cotillard) that changes his life forever.

6. State of Play. 2009. Handsome, U.S. Congressman Collins (Ben Affleck) is the future of his political party, and chairman of a committee overseeing defense spending. All eyes are upon the party's contender for the upcoming presidential race. Until his research assistant/mistress is brutally murdered and buried secrets come tumbling out. Crowe. Helen Mirren. SESSION II – Screen Couples from Hollywood's Golden Years

1. Swing Time (1936). Astaire & Rogers. A performer and gambler travels to New York City to raise the $25,000 he needs to marry his fiancée, only to become entangled with a beautiful aspiring dancer. 2. To Have and Have Not (1944). Bogart & Bacall. During WWII, American expatriate Harry (Bogart) helps a French Resistance leader and his wife to Martinique while romancing a sexy lounge singer (Bacall). When Director Hawks realized what was happening between his two stars off-screen, he decided to center the film on the romance between them, feeding the extended foreplay of the film's smitten couple, who, by all reports, only had eyes for each other. 3. That Hamilton Woman (1941). Olivier & Leigh. Sir William Hamilton is British ambassador to the Court of Naples. Young Emma likes being Lady Hamilton and life goes smoothly until Lord Nelson pays a visit. Sir William decides to let his young wife have her fling, pretending not to know what is going on. But the real life lovers have the same burning passion for each other, as do their characters in the movie. 4. The Thin Man (1934). Powell & Loy. Nick Charles (Powell), a retired detective, and his wealthy socialite wife Nora (Loy), are visiting New York for the Christmas holidays. But Nick is pressed back into service by a young woman whose father, an old client of Nick's, has mysteriously vanished. What appears to be a missing person case turns into a murder case. 5. Adam's Rib (1949). Tracy & Hepburn. Assistant D. A. Adam Bonner (Tracy) and his wife Amanda (Hepburn), are lawyers on opposite sides on a case about a woman (Judy Holliday) who shot her husband who was cheating on her. Holliday, arguably the greatest «dumb blonde» in the history of Hollywood, is absolutely stealing every scene in which she appears in her very first movie role. Totally Brilliant and Funny! 6. The Quiet Man (1952). Wayne & O'Hara. Sean Thornton (Wayne), is an American boxer returning to the Irish town of his youth, to purchase the home of his birth. Sean's eye is caught by the beautiful Mary Kate (O’Hara), sister of ill-tempered Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen)), who refuses to give his consent to their marriage, or paying a dowry to the husband. When Mary Kate accuses him of being a coward and walks out on him, Sean is finally ready to take matters into his own hands.
