• America changes from a farming nation to a nation full of factories and businesses
Why does industry grow?
• Natural resources– Coal, iron, lead, copper– Factories use these resources to run machines and
make goods
Transportation• Allowed cities and nation
to grow• 1830’s railroads developed
quickly• Moves people, goods, and
resources • Transcontinental railroad
– 1869– New railroad opens– Runs from one side of the
U.S. to another– Goods can now be sold in
more places and for more money
Automobile
• 1900• Henry Ford• 8,000 Americans
