Ambulance Victoria made presentation to nine members of Pyramid Hill CERT Team last Thursday night at the Big Hill Winery. Six members were able to attend - Cathy Ballis, Vincent Bartels, Tania Burke, Sheridan Gunther, Geoff Hampson, Bill Quinn, also Ash Miller, Cam Broad and Vaughan Herrick. Congratulations Team - 10 years service to your community and 10 year driving award . It is truly an outstanding effort keeping up training and time on roster well done. The CERT team held Annual meeting last week with all positions staying as is: Chairperson Cheryl Bartels Team Leader Sheridan Gunther Secretary Cath Ballis Treasurer Carmen Cauchi Roster Vaughan Herrick The CERT Team would like to thank you, the community, for your support with our Team. All the members who change their lives to fit in with rosters and training - a huge donation to your community. Well done and thank you, your community thanks you too. Our CERT car has never been off the road in 10 years because of roster - an amazing effort. To Sheridan Gunther, your work as Team Leader has been exceptional, like all things in these times, keeping up with technology and changes is not easy. Well done . Sheridan also thanked the Team on a great year. We attended 86 cases for the year from Dingee, Mitiamo, Durham Ox to Macorna. New recruitment training will start early next year so if we have anyone wanting to do First Responder Training, this is time to give Sheridan a call, it is a process but well worth it .

Seniors News Welcome back. Hope everyone stayed safe during the wet and windy weather recently. We had a good attendance at the Blumes Fashions. Aside from fashions, there was also an abundance of yummy morning tea.

Blumes next visit will be the winter collection in may.

Movie Day - “Oddball” was also well attended - funny movie, but based on a true

story. Again lots of afternoon tea (sometimes I think all we do is eat!)

Speaking of which, our monthly luncheon is this Friday (14th October), so put your name

down for a seat, raffles, lucky door and some fun.

Cards - back on at Seniors rooms each Thursday night at 6.30 pm. Four now going to Cohuna Wednesday nights, some having

a win. Card Bingo - saw quite a few there, having a

win or two and fun. It is hard to believe that three weeks ago, the

Eppalock spillway and surrounds hadn't water within cooee, and two weeks later, the spillway was over flowing. Hope the rain stays away for a while to give farmers affected by flooded paddocks a break.

Race The 86 km bike race from Eaglehawk to Pyramid Hill was well supported, especially by the Junior riders. Flood waters did not stop these very keen riders. V/Line Improvement

Works V/Line is completing more than $46 million in improvement works on the Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca lines during October. Coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross Station and Bendigo/Swan Hill/Echuca from Tuesday 4 October until Sunday 30 October, so please allow up to 60 minutes' extra travel time. Don’t forget to touch your myki at the start of your journey and touch off when you reach your destination to pay the correct fare. V/Line staff and contractors will work around the clock on several projects including replacing sleepers and ballast as well as renewing rail bridges along the line. It is amazing how quickly the huge pile of stones has disappeared. V/Line is minimising the overall disruption to customers by completing these important works at the same times as the level crossing removals at St Albans and Ginifer stations. It has been great to have an influx of workmen in the town and local businesses have had an increased patronage over the last few weeks.

Tuesday Night Netball

Green took on Purple in the early game. Both teams were coming off wins last week and were keen to continue their improvement up the ladder. Purple had the edge each quarter as the roles were reversed and Tess taught her mother a lesson in goal shooting. Purple won the game 37 - 26. The second game shaped up as a mis-match as it was the ladder leaders up against the cellar dwellers and while the Red team tried hard Blue extended the lead every quarter. Red made a few changes in the second half and while their scoring improved they were well beaten by the end, Blue winning 59 - 19. Red have the bye next week so hopefully they can regroup and notch up some more wins in the second half of the season.

The Progress Association would like to

thank Ron Peacock on his role as Secretary over the years, and we would like to welcome Tara Hammet as Progress’s

new Secretary. The new CEO of Loddon Shire, Phil Pinyon attended the AGM and spoke about his work history, but also listened to the members concerns about matters in Pyramid Hill.

The Loddon Shire are looking to appoint a Project Officer re; new toilet block etc. for

the caravan park. The Loddon Shire has received the final design for the Pyramid flood levee from Consultants, but will be subject to grant

funding. Pyramid Hill Community Centre (Senior

Citizens) Master Planning is a project about identifying opportunities to optimise the use of the Senior Citizens Centre with other

organisations and or clubs. We anticipate a draft plan in March/April next year.

Historical Society will be having a roast dinner at Mitchell Park 16th October where Mr Peter Walsh MP will launch the latest

book. Mr Forbes will also be in attendance.

Division 2: had a weird topsy-turvy day – some great scores and some that can be recorded in small font size only. But that is bowls! What is great one day can suddenly come crashing down – and vice versa. That’s part of the challenge that keeps us turning up each week. Robyn (Skip), Glen M., Beth hung on to post a 5 shot win – 25-20. Lorraine (Skip), Gladys & Rose had a dire day but will surely rebound to better things on the next outing (5-41) Jenny (Skip), Dawn, Alan J were part of the topsy-turvy. They got off to a dream start holding their opponents to just 2 shots up until the lunch break, but then found their lead gradually dwindle away to within 8 shots at the final end. Kerang got the aggregate points for the day despite our side

winning two rinks – (74-51).

Bowlers please note that the matches next week are to be played on Friday,

21st October- not Wednesday – End-of-week Pennant rather than Mid-week Pennant. We host the Cohuna Bowling Club in both Divisions 1& 2. School Bowls: It is wonderful to have the Pyramid Hill College students making use of our greens again as they get ready for their interschool competi-tion. Perhaps a few of them will eventually become smitten by the game and will want to engage in Club games. Starting young before the onset of arthritis would have to be a good thing. Social Event: Please note the upcoming social event advertised on the board at the Bowling Club. Place your name on the sheet to indicate you intend taking part and nominate your contribution toward the meal.

Pyramid Bowling Club Saturday Pennant got off to a shaky start last weekend. With all available players already allocated to a team, some frantic phone calls were logged when one of our stalwarts had to withdraw due to illness. Attempts to acquire a Sub were in vain so it came down to recruiting a new bowler who had had minimal practice and required fitting out in bowls attire with no opportunity to assess fit and style. Basically, if the garment went over the head and the arms could fit in it was the right size! A huge “thanks” to Leigh who took on the onerous task of playing at such short notice and with such a short pre-season. Hopefully the first game experience was not too daunting and he will front up again. The up side was that Leigh was a part of the only winning rink; his presence avoided a penalty for the side being a player down; he was a winner of the incentive award and, from all accounts, showed a lot of promise. Both Divisions 1 & 3 travelled to Kerang to face up to the extremely strong finals contesting teams from 2015-16. Although the scores were not fabulous, several rinks really pushed the opposition and must have sent the adrenalin souring as the struggle for supremacy developed. If nothing else our players’ style obviously caught the eye of the roving photographer for the “Loddon Times” as three of our folk (Fred, Laurie & Marie N.) all featured in action shots as part of the weekly newspaper report. Results: Division 1- Fred (skip), Laurie, Marie N. & Bill were right in the mix but for one bad end which surrendered 7 shots, lost 18-27. Lionel (Skip), Nola, Jean & Andy similarly gave away a 7 shot end and went down 23-33. Without those two hiccups the results would have been much closer – perhaps even close enough to make their opponents break out into a

sweat.

Beau (Skip), Ian, Helen & Graham were not far off the mark either and, after a slow start, kept within striking distance. Their score 16-30 did not reflect the calibre of the bowling. Overall Kerang won 90 – 57 which doesn’t look fantastic but our players can hold their heads high to have pushed so hard.

Division 3: Brian (Skip) straight into magnificent form following on from last year, Lorraine F., Leigh & Beth won the accolades and the Incentive Award with a 27-14 win. High fives all round to these folk! Neil (Skip), Lorraine, & Rose were runners up in the Incentive Award (no trophy given) with their 6 shot loss 16-22. Allan F., Robyn, George & Alan J had a tougher day for their first outing going down 11- 38. Overall Kerang won 74 – 54. At the end of round 1 both Divisions sit on the bottom of the ladder so there is only one way to go from there –up. Our next match this Saturday sees Divisions 1 & 3 both take on Barham Services in matches played on our own greens. Please check the board for team selections and note the Duty Rink. The duties for the people to attend to when on duty are listed on the Office door. Good luck and good bowling. The 60 and Over team declined the airfare round the world tickets to avoid the flood waters to get to Boort to compete last Thursday. Not even free ferry tickets could lure them to traverse the waters. Hopefully, they will get in a few more games and chase

down a chook in the weeks to come.

Mid-week Pennant: Both Divisions 1 & 2 travelled to Kerang on Wednesday. Now let’s not hear any more about the howling winds at Pyramid Hill, because the weather at Kerang could only be likened to an arctic freeze! The wind was bitter which made the chattering of dentures louder than the impact of bowl on kitty. The workout on Saturday should have given many of our players an insight into the pace of the greens – surely it had to be to some advantage. Sadly the results did not altogether reflect that; still it was not a bad hit-out all

things considered.

(Skip), Marg, Jean & Ian got off to a good start and were not headed all day. They were the “saving grace” with a 27-19 win and also collected the Incentive Award on a count back from the Division 2 team with Jenny as Skip. Overall result: Kerang won 81- 65

Some of your answers will be found in the Pyramid Hill & District Historical Society’s new book, ‘Sale O, Hooroo and Sundries’ which will be launched by Peter Walsh MP at Mitchell Park (footy Ground) on October 16th at 1pm. The cost being $30. It is written in the period of 1890-1899 of land sales, clearing sales, farewells and other tit bits. The day starts at 11 am with vintage machinery, Classic cars, Catalina Band music, market stalls and catering is being looked after by the famous Footynet ladies. There is no entry fee, no cost to have a market stall or boot sale. So come along and enjoy a day in Pyramid Hill.

Katrina van Eyk Swimming School will be offering the following classes during

the 2016/17 swimming season at the Pyramid Hill Swimming 33m Pool.

♦ Intermediate class 1 (can swim up to 1 lap)

♦ Intermediate class 2 (can swim up to 2 continuous laps of the pool)

♦ Advanced class 1 (can swim up to 4 continuous laps of the pool)

♦ Advanced class 2 (can swim more than 4 continuous laps of the pool)

♦ Aqua workout ($5 a class for 30mins, $10 for an hour) – Includes water

aerobics exercises, suited to all fitness levels.

There is an opportunity to compete at local swim meets under the Kerang Swimming

Club. I am considering combining the training with the advanced class 2 if there is

enough interest. Anyone competing will need to attend 3 training sessions per week.

One of these sessions will be free of charge as I may have to bring my children and

the other sessions will be at the same cost as the Advanced lessons.

The lessons will run through the pool season with a break from the 19/12/2016 to the 8/01/2017 finishing on the week of the 17/02/2017. Lessons cost $60 for the full 10 weeks at one lesson a week and the advanced classes, intermediate class 2 and squad will be $120 for the full 10 weeks at two lessons per week. My qualifications include the AUSTswim courses of Swimming and Water Safety, Infant and Preschool, Competitive Swim Strokes, First Aid and CPR. I also have my working with children’s check. One week to go! We have some great attractions at this year’s Fiesta. The younger children will LOVE the animal farm, where they get up close and personal with a variety of farm animals. If they get bored, they can jump on the inflatable slide or jumping castle, or maybe try on a sumo-suit and wrestle with a friend, with all these activities are included in the entry fee. Great value at $40 a family, or $15 per person, and $5 for primary students. For the basketball enthusiasts, take part in the Fiesta Basketball Challenge for a chance to win a basketball donated by Sportspower. Or for the more artistically inclined, work with our guest Street Artist, Nathan, to create your own masterpiece For a more sedentary experience, just browse the market stalls, then sit back with a cuppa and enjoy the entertainment. It is advisable to bring your own chair or picnic rug, as seating is limited. Gates open at 4pm, with the official opening at 4.30, with an acknowledgement of country and flag-bearing ceremony. The Santacruzen Parade and Cultural Dance will take place from 5-6pm. Food will be available from the start, with the Lions BBQ, Neighbourhood House Afo Tea and finger food. The more exotic cuisines, including spit roast pork and lamb, will be available from 6pm, followed by a variety of desserts. All food is included in the entry fee. During the evening we will all be entertained by the Kool Skools CD launch, with live performances by the students. There may also be an opportunity for a couple of ‘walk-up’ open mike acts. Then to finish off the night, we crank up the karaoke.
