/ The Diary Of Emily Nash

1312-1888. Vital Records Only.

Vol. 1, Abbott to Knights, 242 Family Names.

In the late autumn of 1812, John Nash and his family left Windsor, Mass, and in February, 1813, arrived in the Township of Troy, Geauga County, Ohio, settling near the present village of Velshfield.

Emily, daughter of John, was six years old when the family left Massachussetts. She began keeping a diary, which she persistently con¬ tinued for 76 years, until her death in 1888. The Diary contains more than 500 pages of legal cap paper. It is a most interesting account of the experiences of settlers in a new country, and the changes of the years.

Emily married (l) David Patchin; (2) John Halkins; (3) Elijah Pike. Each of these died and she was for many years a widow. Her only child was Philansa Patchin who married Martin Holcomb. Many of their descend¬ ants are living in the vicinity of Alto, Kent County, Michigan. Emily is buried beside Elijah Pike in the Cemetery at V/elshfield, Ohio. She was an ardent and faithful member of the Welshfield Congregational Church. When a young woman she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered.

The present manuscript is confined to the Vital Rocords of the Di¬ ary and to personal references to individuals. She recorded faithfully the births, marriages and dca/ths in the community, and commented on the coming and going of parsons of noto or of particular friends. Occasion¬ ally she copied items from newspapers, having tc do with noted persons.

'x. The Diary makes no attempt to arrange familios in genealogical or¬ der, except the Nash family. The present manuscript gathers the inform¬ ation and classifies it alphabetically.

The original Diary is in our possession. If it is desired to havo a full copy of all it contains about any person or family, wo are pre¬ pared to have tho typing dene for Fifty Cents an hour. Information and

estimates on request.
