Purpose• To teacher newly hired Early Childhood teachers the necessary procedures for diaper

changing and hand washing, so that they will be fully equipped to do their jobs.

Objectives• After the new hires have watched the tutorial on diaper changing procedures, they will be

able to perform the necessary steps to changing a diaper with 100% accuracy.

• After the new hires have watched the tutorial on hand washing, they will be able to perform the necessary steps to wash their hands and the children’s with 100% accuracy.

• After the tutorial has been completed, the newly hired employees will be able to identify

poor hand washing procedures with 100% accuracy

How To Change A Diaper

It is important to follow each step of diaper changing. Be sure to sanitize the table to get rid of germs.

How to wash you hands.

Hand washing prevents the spread of infections such as colds and the flu. When to wash hands: Before, during, and after preparing food. Before eating food. Before and after caring for someone who is sick. Before and after treating a cut or wound. After using the toilet. After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet. After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. After touching garbage

Do’s- Do use a paper towel to turn the faucet off.- Do use warm water.- Do wash for 20 sec and rinse for 10 sec. - Always engage the child while changing their diaper.- Ask for assistance if needed. - Have supplies ready in advance. Don’ts- Don’t use bare hands to touch faucet after washing.- Don’t wash hands directly under running water. - Don’t forget to wash in-between fingers. - Never take your hand off the child while they are on the table. - Never stands a child up on the table to put their clothes on. - Only use a one wipe per swipe.

It is important to wet your hands before you wash them so that the soap will not be harsh on your hands. Your hands collect many germs throughout the day when you touch different things. Germs are not seen and are on many surfaces. By rinsing you hands under water for 10 seconds you are rinsing away the germs.

It is very important to was your hands before a meal and after blowing your nose. By washing your hands it cuts down on the spread of germs. Never leave a child unattended while they are on the changing table. You should keep one hand on the child at all times. Always make sure that you have enough wipes for the change. If you don’t have enough ask someone to bring you more. By wiping your hand and the child’s you are cleaning it from germs. When you engage the child during their diaper change it will make it easier to change them.

Guidelines for assessment.

• The employee will now be tested on their diaper changing and hand washing techniques. After employees have finished and passed the assessment, employers will come in on a random day and test employees on their newly learned skills. Employees have to do all the necessary steps for diaper changing and hand washing correctly before they will be considered to be a trainer for future employees.

• If for some reason an employee hasn’t mastered the diaper changing and hand washing techniques they will be sent to a class to get further help.
