March 2017 Edition # 2

Dear Members, Supporters, Past Players and Sponsors

Update of news from the Diamond Creek Football & Netball Club

What a start to the season the netball girls kicked the week off on Friday night with 3 teams out of 5 getting

across the line great effort by the girls considering some key players were unavailable.

Then the Footballers where off to North Heidelberg for Round 1 which was always going to be a good test for our

seniors coming up against a strong Boomer Harvey inspired North. We started well and lead up to half time,

letting our guard down North ran away from us and went on to win by 29 points.

The U19's won by 84 points. A pleasing result considering the amount of new players we have in the squad. With

up to 5 second year players to come back from injury things look good for the 19's again this year.

The reserves had a solid win against a much improved North Heidelberg. I'm sure Hoppe would be very happy

with the result considering the number of players he has to return into a very good side.

No games next week due to Easter.

The week after the U19's have a stand alone game against Epping on the Saturday 22/4/17.

The seniors will be playing Lalor at home on ANZAC DAY (Tuesday). This is a massive fixture for the club and we

hope to see all there.

Light Up Coventry Oval - Bendigo Bank Community Project

Thank you for supporting the recent online funding program to raise funds to upgrade the lighting at Coventry

Oval.

The project has been successful in reaching the $4000 target, with a final amount of $4343.65 raised, and

therefore, the local Diamond Creek Community Bank® will also contribute $4000.

the tattslotto results. In Brocks defense he did call his victory at 3/4 time of the seniors match.

Football

Seniors The seniors jumped out of the blocks and looked a million dollars against the Harvey inspired North Heidelberg.

Unfortunately we had a disappointing third quarter that intimately cost us the match. What was pleasing was that

we were more than competitive against what everyone thinks is the best team in the comp. With several

important ins for next week we have plenty of room for improvement. With 6 U19 players in the seniors our best

footy is definitely ahead of us Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4

North Heidelberg 1-3-9 5-8-38 11-10-76 13-10-88

Diamond Creek 4-2-26 7-4-46 7-4-46 9-5-59

Goal Kickers: J. Cosaitis 2, J. Prosser 2, B. Perry 2, B. Wescott, R. Kavanagh, K. Tenace

Best Players: O. Parks, T. Chapman, K. Watson, T. Barnes, J. McQueen, T. Franks

Reserves

The boys made a great start early with a 5 goal start by Andrew Gray. North Heidelberg tried hard to get back into

the game but with our enormous tackle pressure and relentless willing to do the hard gut running, we were able

to keep them at bay for the rest of the game and come out with a great team win first up. Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4

North Heidelberg 0-0-0 3-0-18 5-1-31 8-6-54

Diamond Creek 5-4-34 6-5-41 10-9-69 10-10-70

Goal Kickers: A. Gray 6, M. Bullock, M. Smith, R. Pingree, E. Fawcett

Best Players: R. Pingree, A. Gray, C. Libertino, R. Burrell, W. Lowrie

Under 19’s

A slow start in which we weren't prepared to work hard enough when we didn’t have the football saw us concede

the first three goals of the match. After that the players increased their work rate and we were able to win the

next three quarters and have a comfortable win. We will need to have a more consistent effort in the future when

we come up against the stronger sides if we are to remain competitive Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4

North Heidelberg 3-0-18 3-0-18 3-6-24 4-7-31

Diamond Creek 0-4-4 6-11-47 10-12-72 16-19-115

Goal Kickers: K. O''Regan 4, L. Brannelly 3, J. Eckersall 2, T. McEntee, K. Brick, C. Whalley, H. Wall, J. Ludlow, R.

Noble, R. Donaldson

Best Players: M. Lewis, L. Brannelly, R. Hobbs, K. O''Regan, R. Noble, H. Wall

Netball

DC1-42 def by Lakeside/West Preston-47.

With over half of the paying squad unavailable for this grading game due to Victorian Netball League commitments, the

team got off to a slow start, but never really lost touch with Lakeside/WP. The margin wavered between 5 goals down

and 1 goal down but the girls could never quite hit the front. An injury to stalwart GK Bonnie Smith in the third quarter

left the team short for the remainder of the game, but what they gave up in numbers, they made up for in

determination. A tightly fought game until the end the team ended up going down by 5. Incentive to Kourtnee Baird

who shifted through the mid court and provided some vital intercepts in the last quarter.

DC2-30 def Heidelberg2-20

DC2 bolstered their defensive line up this week with the inclusion of veteran defender Lynsey Barrett. The game was

close throughout the first half with the teams remaining even at the main break. Coach Kristie Gannon made some

important changes to the attack end and the team stepped up, piling on the first 6 goals of the third term. Mollie

Marchbank looked at home in the GS position and Lexi Giannakis (incentive winner) was strong in WA.

DC3-46 def St Mary's 2-18

These girls led from beginning to end in a dominating performance across the court.

Defending duo Sarah Van Neiukerk and Riley Watkins hunted and pressured everything, while the midcourt controlled

the tempo and worked it down the court. Goalers Elise Garwood and Chloe Gray also found their form shooting

everything and anything that came into the circle. Incentive awarded to Cassie Lewis

DC4-24 def Sth Morang2 -21

After a first quarter melt down sore the team go into the break 7 down (4-11) this young team rallied together to play

some of the best netball we've seen so far. They slowly broke the opposition down and steadily pegged back the score

until they hit the front in the third quarter. Once the players took the lead they were able to control the tempo and

take the win. Incentive awarded to Kara Trowell who was consistent and a leader down the attacking end all game.

DC5-18 def by Mernda1-46

After a hotly contested first quarter, the girls weren't able to stay with the Mernda firsts. While they never gave up,

Mernda were too strong and may be likely to go up to Section 3 next week, after their second big win of the grading.

Incentive to Claudia Levings.

No games this weekend due to the Easter break, so teams will rest up and be ready for rd3 of grading the following

Friday.
