An enchanting voice, a fiery bandoneón, and a virtuosic double bass transport you to the heart of Buenos Aires. Playing a refreshing mix of tango, milongas, and chanson as well as a few surprises, Diablito Tango encompasses the essence of this vibrant music and performs it in their own inimitable style.!Diablito Tango was born as a mix of three cultures - tango, jazz, and chanson and s ince the i r fi r s t appearance in 2010, they have quickly risen to critical acclaim playing to sell-out audiences world-wide. They were

praised by the National Music Museum (USA) as “the best act to perform in our series in the 15 years we have been scheduling these concerts”. Diablito Tango recently launched their debut album which was described as “addictive”. In 2013, they won the “Sold-Out Show” award in the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival a n d h a v e a l s o p e r f o r m e d t o completely sold out audiences in the Serenatas Festival (Valencia) and the Cullera International Chamber Music Festival. Outside Diablito Tango, the members of the trio are all musicians of the highest calibre and hold positions with the opera orchestra of Valencia, Palau de les Arts, founded by director Lorin Maazel.

Meet The MusiciansJavier Cárdenas was

born in Buenos Ai res, Argent ina in 1979. He s tud ied bandoneón in Buenos Aires with Julio Pane and Rodolfo Mederos as well as with great master Juan Jose Mosalini at the Gennevilliers Conservatory in Paris, France.

In addition to playing the bandoneón, Javier holds degrees in violin from the Salta School of Music and the “Alberto Ginastera” Conservatory in Buenos Aires as well as a masters in viola from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsurgh (USA) which he obtained through a Fulbr ight grant . Jav ier performed as a soloist and m e m b e r w i t h m a n y

ensembles in Argentina including the Congress Chamber orchestra, Salta Symphony Orchestra, and Colon Theatre Opera House and has also held the position of principal viola w i t h t h e J e u n e s s e s Musicales World Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. Currently, Jav ier is a permanent member of the Palau de les Arts opera orchestra in Valencia, Spain, founded by Lorin Maazel.!

Nesrine Belmokh was born in 1982 in Douai, n o r t h e r n F r a n c e t o a French-Algerian family. She began her music career at the early age of five singing

a n d

playing mandolin in an arab-andalouse music group. Subsequently, her interest in world music brought her to sing in a gospel choir for several years. In 2004 Nesrine formed her own ensemble, MAY, in Lyon combining soul music and jazz. Since then she has also taken various master classes at the prestigious Berklee School of Music.

Through Nesrine’s other passion, the cello, she performs as a permanent member of the Palau de les Arts opera orchestra created by Lorin Maazel. Nesrine has recorded various CDs with international artists such as IAM, Riccardo del Fra Barre Phillips, Steve Swallow, and Fatche d’eux.!

M a t t h e w B a k e r , originally from Sioux City ( U S A ) , b e g a n h i s professional career with the the double bass at the early age of 13 with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra,

first as section and later as principal double bass. He h o l d s d e g r e e s i n performance from the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music (UK). Matt leads a diversified career in double bass performance having a c h i e v e d r e c o g n i t i o n worldwide for his work in classical, jazz, world, and

theatrical performance in over 20 countries.

Matt is the professor of j a z z b a s s a t t h e

Conservatorio Superior de Valencia and has played with the jazz greats such as Bob Mintzer, Dave Samuels, Clark Terry, Terr i Lyne Carrington and Jorge Pardo among others. He has also performed extensively in the celtic music scene with artists such as Catriona McKay, Chris Stout, and Luke Daniels. Matt is a member of the Palau de les a r t s o p e r a o r c h e s t r a founded by Lorin Maazel.

Technical Specifications

Diablito Tango performs as close to its acoustic origins as it can, and so enjoys a limited technical rider. However, they would ask for the following items, depending on the size of venue:

Sound equipment: !Microphone Stands: 2 tall, 2 short!1 Microphone for presenting!2 Microphones - Shure sm 57 or similar!4 Microphone cables!In house sound system with DI box and 1-3 monitors

or:PA and mixing board (4 channels)!!
