Vs. Halloween

One of my favorite things to teach around Halloween is the difference between Halloween and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). I always start out by reading a book about Halloween and a book about Dia de los Muertos. I have included a list of books that you could read to your class. I will then have them watch a video called Scary Tales: Halloween/Day of the Dead: My brand new life series ISBN# 0772211949. This video is about a boy from Mexico and a boy from Canada and how they go to live in each other’s homes over the two different holidays. They are able to learn about the traditions of another culture and give unique insight in to how the holidays are different. After reading and watching the video I then pass out the Venn diagram and have the students fill it out using the information that we had talked and learned about in class.
