Before preparing a shipment, it’s the shipper’s responsibility to ensure that the items in the shipment are properly packed. Follow these steps to help ensure your shipment arrives at its destination in optimal condition:

Packing Your Contents: • Choose the size of the box according to its content. • To help prevent the contents of your container from shifting during shipment, make sure to use plenty of packaging material on all sides. • Put fragile goods in the center of the box and ensure you use packing material to cushion the goods on all sides. In addition, clearly mark the package “FRAGILE” on the outside of the box.

Sealing Your Package: • If reusing an old container, check to see that it’s in good shape and remove or conceal old addresses, shipping labels and markings. • Avoid over-sealing your package—customs staff can open any shipment. • Don’t use masking tape, duct tape, wrapping paper, string, rope or cellophane tape on the outside of your packages. •“FRAGILE” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” labels are not a substitute for careful packaging.

The cost of a shipment can be affected by the amount of space that it occupies on an aircraft, rather than the actual weight. This is the volumetric (or dimensional) weight which reflects the density of a package. A less dense item generally occupies more volume of space, in comparison to its actual weight. The volumetric weight is compared with the actual weight of the shipment to determine which is greater. The higher weight is used to calculate the shipment cost. This factor is based on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards. Volumetric Weight = Length x Width x Height / Volumetric Divisor* * Standard Volumetric Divisor is 5000 for the weight in KG and dimensions in CM or 139 for weights in lbs and dimensions in inches.

Our experience in dealing with customs clearance process is unparalleled. Our capabilities include, customs clearance, the flexibility to pay duty and state of art inventory system to assist customs departments. Under Egyptian Postal Authority regulations there are tow types of customs clearance : INFORMAL CLEARANCE: is on arrival releases for Non regulatory goods with value is equal or less to $2000 and weight =< 50 KG. FORMAL CLEARANCE: Is for Goods with value more than $2000 will need Ministry approval. All Formal clearances are managed through 3rd party brokers. The importer has the option to use their own broker or to engage the services of the DHL brokerage teams . If the consignee uses their own broker, DHL will hand over the clearance documents to the nominated broker and they will be responsible for clearance and delivery of the shipment. The importer may be required to provide Ministerial approvals for restricted products such as telecommunications equipment, drugs, food items, CD’s, publications, and chemicals to facilitate customs clearance.
