Dhekelia Curriculum

Our aim is to embed computing in as many learning opportunities as possible alongside weekly lessons of Computing and ICT. Through stimulating and challenging experiences children continue to develop their love for learning and through this become confident and independent users of a range of software and hardware. In the ever-changing digital world, we aim to provide all children with not only the skills to use the technology that exists today, but the life-long thinking skills and passion to continue to develop their love for computing through secondary school and beyond. This is promoted through our curriculum drivers. At Dhekelia, we promote digital citizenship through modelling how social media should be used responsibly with a strong focus on creating a good digital footprint. eSafety is extremely high on our list of priorities and it receives dedicated curriculum time both in ICT teaching and the wider curriculum. In an age when technology is an integral part of our everyday life, it is vital that we keep our children informed about and protected from the dangers.

Computing/ICT knowledge and skills are taught as weekly lessons in the Computing/ICT suite, and where explicitly possible, links are made with the humanities topics. Pupils have access to additional technology in the classroom for the wider curriculum which includes the use of iPads, Surface Pros and data loggers. As well as developing skills in computing, we ensure that pupils are competent at using ICT. By the end of KS1, pupils should be confident with mouse and keyboard skills (adding/removing text, using tool bars etc.) to support them across the curriculum.
