Report on COVID-19 responses of DAM-Health Sector (July to Sep-2020)
Dhaka Ahsania Mission is a non-government development organization founded by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah.
The founding motto of DAM is 'Divine and humanitarian service’. Focusing the motto DAM Health Sector
always tries to humanitarian service by health support like communicable, non communicable diseases and
mental health. The pandemic situation of COVID-19 DAM Health Sector has been at the forefront in fighting
the physical, economic, psychological and social burdens that COVID-19 has brought upon us.
Activities in COVID-19 Pandemic are below:
Through the project of COVID-19 Integrated Emergency Humanitarian Response to the Rohingya & Host
Community Population ((IEHRRHP) in Cox’s Bazar takes different types of initiative to prevent the Pandemic
situation of COVID-19.
Number of essential personal protective equipment (i.e. PPE, masks, hand gloves, and disinfectants)
distributed on COVID-19.
As a health care provider in a health post & community level
the staffs have the responsibility to prepare themselves
before given health service in COVID-19 response. Every
day they wash their hands with soap and water in proper
way, examine the temperature by the thermal scanner in
every staff. Our staff wears & uses proper PPE according to
rational use of PPE with strictly maintaining IPC policy in 01
static health post& 02 Popups health post. 2226 set basic
PPE, 1576 pairs of Gloves, 2562 PCs mask & 171 Bottles
hand sanitizer /disinfectants are distributed during the period
of July -September 2020 as the part of essential personal
protective equipment of COVID-19.
Covid-19 Prevention and Hand Hygiene
Number of staff, CHWs and volunteers received training on
COVID-19 preparedness and response.
In COVID-19 situation, all health service providers to serve
health services as a frontline by taking some precautions such as
wearing PPE & maintain personal hygiene. The Medical staff &
CHWs of DAM received 05 training session on Health
Awareness and Community
Mobilization with the Community Leaders, Training on Basic Emergency care, Training on Safe Delivery and
Essential Newborn Care, Training on Home-based care on COVID-19 and
Field Worker’s Training on COVID-19
IPC and Training on Community Based Surveillance
and Home-Based care on COVID-19 almost 153 staffs
were got those training. After getting 01 training,
CHWs were doing their field work by wearing
PPE (Face Mask, gloves) according to the WHO
protocol’s & maintain social distance during their field
visit. 03 Midwives on COMPASS for Kobo Collect from
CAID (Accountability Department) to collect
Complaint/Feedback and Rumor/Myth on COVID-19.
Field Worker’s Training on COVID-19
Number of people receiving awareness raising and
capacity building messages on COVID-19.
Doctors, paramedics, midwives, & CHWs were raised
the awareness to develop the capacity among the
Rohingya & host community people on COVID19
through discussion, orientation, motivational
speech, collection of feedback & rumor and practical
session on physical /social distance maintaining,
cough etiquettes, hygiene maintaining, hand washing &
wearing the mask. Conduct 1006 session against target
COVID-19 patient to MSF hospital
of 468 which cover 3139 people (54 % were female participants) on door to door training on hand hygiene,
respiratory hygiene & Social distance in response to
COVID-19 and awareness session on key messages for
Rohingya & host community. Out of 3139, 13 PwDs &
260 ( 8.28%) participants was from host community
people. In COVID-19, as the part of awareness raising
and capacity building, CHWs are distributed soap during
the orientation of Rohingya & host community people on
hand washing/hygiene maintaining. CHWs are Doctor

by door to door awareness activities. There are
02 camps where our CHWs were playing
audio message in patients waiting areas at the
health post which is made by Rohingya language
about COVID-19. It is mentionable that the audio
player was provided by the CAID. Total numbers of
2123 waiting patients at health post were aware by
the Audio message where there were 1330
females. Out of the total Audio message listener,
over 98%

mobile phone to aware the Rohingy as on COVID-19 during their door to door visit at Rohingya community
also.
The IRSOP project has been given online training on COVID 19 preparedness including Stress Management for
medical and non-medical staff in Prisons
All over the world Prisons are overcrowded, Bangladesh also one of them. In this COVID 19 pandemic
situation, a number of prison personnel and prisoners are already infected with COVID-19 and the rest are also
at risk of infection. This pandemic is not only affecting our health and economy, but also seriously harming our mental
health and social systems. World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations (UN) have already declared to
emphasize mental healthcare for all during the pandemic situation, especially for the frontline workers.
Considering this alarming issue, DAM-GIZ-IRSOP project is
conducting an online training “Orientation Training
(Online) On COVID19 preparedness including Stress
Management for medical and non-medical staff in Prisons”. The training supported by GIZ Bangladesh and Prison
Directorate and Implementing by Dhaka Ahsania Mission. As a
part of technical
support
International
Committee of
the Red Cross
(ICRC) also has
involved this
training and
shared their
module. On 1st
July 2020 training was
started through a formal opening ceremony through a virtual system where chief guest was Brigadier General
A KM Mustafa Kamal Pasha, Inspector General of Bangladesh Prisons. As aspecial guest was attended
Tahera Yasmin Director (Operation) RoL, GIZ and Simon Cervi, Detention Team Leader, International
Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Welcome speech and Objectives of the course shared by Iqbal Masud,
Director, Health and WASH Sector, Dhaka Ahsania Mission. As an implementing partner Dhaka Ahsania
Mission has formed an expert technical team by health professionals, clinical psychologist and experts in
development sectors. Training was conducted 2 hours basis in 4 days. In Reporting quarter July-September,
2020 total 13 batches training has been completed
where 261 participants were attended from 56 prison where (male-227 and female-34). Among the
participants technical staffs were 85 (Medical officer, Pharmacist, Diploma Nurses etc.) and non-technical

Staffs were 175 (senior jail super, Jailor, Deputy Jailor, Warder, Assistants warder etc.). This training will
cover all 68 prisons all over the country. During the training program participants were attentive and facilitation
process was excellent. Facilitators deliver their speech in easy and used examples which are helped participant
to achieve training objectives. Training was designed considering the participants technological use knowledge.
A structured training module was developed considering the prison context. Training module has 5 section

As part of the prevention the current epidemic Covid-19 initiative has taken named awareness raising activities
on COVID-19 disease for released prisoners. It is very
important to know about the correct information about
COVID-19 for prevent self anong with family. In reporting
period July-2020 total 276 (male-188, female- 88) released
prisoners has got the information on COVID-19 issues from
the over telephone and physically in jail gate by the
Rehabilitation Supervisors cum Counselors (RSCC) of
DAM-GIZ-IRSOP thorugh respective prison authorities.

information where covered the about the corona virus, how its
speared, its sign and symptoms, treatment, how its prevent,
true
Information is providing to released prisoner in
Prison gate information about COVID-19 disease, national helpline
numbers and the list of hospitals. This will help them to aware about this disease and protect their family
members. It is a ongoing activities.
PEPSEP project
The experience of COVID-19 is a clarion call
for action, therefore in the month of August
2020, Dhaka Ahsania Mission take an
initiative of supplying & distributing food
and Nutrition support to insecure PEPSEP
project beneficiaries who are further affected
due to COVID-19 Pandemic. As this a
crucial emergency response of COVID-19
epidemic, the responsible employee and
beneficiaries will maintain WHO’s suggested
guidelines and procedures.The food items
distributed among the beneficiaries included
30 kg of rice, 1 kg of pulses, 1 liter of oil, 2
kg of potatoes, 1 kg of salt, 1 kg of sugar, 1
kg of onions and hygiene packages included
bath and hand washing soap – 3 pcs (each
125 g), sanitary napkins (1 packet), reusable
mask (4 pieces) and 500 g of detergent
powder to each household among 900
cardholders or households in 9 wards of
Satkhira Municipality.

From July to September 2020, a total of 126
yard meetings were organized in the Savar &
Satkhira Municipality area under the Health
and Nutrition (PEPSEP) project with the
technical assistance of Christian Aid with the
financial assistance of the European Union for
the implementation of Dhaka Ahsania
Mission. These court yard meetings are
attended by family members holding project
cards. In the yard meeting discusses corona
virus, personal hygiene and healthy habits,
adolescent nutrition and neonatal
immunization.

In the month of September 2020, Virtual Training
was organized on COVID-19 for Health Professionals of
Private Health Service Providers;attending 20 health
professionals of our PEPSEP Project empanelled
hospitals for a 4 days. The training was conducted
through Google Meet. Topics covered like:
COVID-19 Primary prevention; Corona Virus and
SARS-COV-2; Preparedness for preventing
COVID19; Wearing and removing PPE; Stress in
pandemic situation and Techniques of Stress
management; Social Stigma Related to COVID19;
Ethical considerations during COVID-19.
20 participants are from Savar & Satkhira health
professionals. Facilitators are Dr. Fatema Khan, Dr.
Naila Parvin, Md Amir Hussain & Iqbal Masud.
Virtual Training on COVID-19 for Health Professionals, PEPSEP
From July to September 2020, a total of 41
video shows were shown in the Savar
Municipality area under the Health and
Nutrition (PEPSEP) project with the technical
assistance of Christian Aid with the financial
support of the European Union for the
implementation of the Dhaka Ahsania Mission.
These video shows are attended by family
members holding project cards. The video
show features videos and dramas about corona
virus, personal hygiene and healthy habits,
breast feeding etc.

TB control project DAM TB Control program operates two DOTS center and lab at Ward 1(Uttara) & Ward 17 (Khilkhet).In this pandemic
situation due to COVID 19 we continued our activities with proper protection, personal hygiene and maintaining social
distance. If patient come for health services or collect medicine then we first maintaining proper distance and sanitize their
hands and ensuring to wear a mask and giving them proper health education about COVID 19.

own organization .We distributed leaflet, which is
supplied by DAM, health sector regarding COVID
19.In the month of July, August & September 2020
we organized Orientation of GPP, Orientation of
Factory workers and orientation of Cured TB
Patient with proper safety and precautions. Daily
we contacted our patient about their health,
medicine and contact tracing over telephone and
physically visit their house by maintaining a daily
plan. If any patient come with sign symptoms of
corona then we advised them communicate with
IEDCR or any Government hospital.
We also ensure staff orientation training on infection control and awareness buildup about COVID19 by our own
organization, and new guidelines of NTP and BRAC.

Primary Health Care Services Delivery
Project-Phase II has been set up three-chamber
hand wash sink at the CRHCC, DSCC, PA-03,
Hazaribagh for the prevention of COVID 19.
The project has funded by World Vision. As if
those beneficiaries can maintain their hygiene
before taking services. Continuing the services
World Vision provided hygiene products like
soup, liquid hand-wash, hand sanitizer, fenail,
and dustbin.

Activities:
All of our centers including CRHCC & PHCC are providing health care services in this corona situation. In this
situation we arrange hand washing facilities in front of our all centers, measuring body temperature, spraying
bleaching water for everyone in shoe surface. We also arrange PPE, Hand Gloves, Hexisol, Face Mask, and
Eye/Face Shield for all
doctors, nurses and
health workers in Corona
situation.
During July 2020 –

On 15th
August, 2020 National Mourning Day DAM,
UPHCSDP-II, CoCC, PA-1 organized free health
check-up facilities in all Six PHCCs and CRHCC. On 15th
August 2020a total of 210clients received free check- up
and 2 NVD deliveries received free services.
Also on this day we arranged essay writing contest for
school student about autobiography of Father of the nation
at all PHCC’s. After finishing this contest, we are
providing a gift to the first position, second position & third
position.
BCC Activities: CoCC, PA-1, DAM received financial support, leaflet and audio clip for miking regarding
awareness campaign for COVID-19 from UPHCSDP-II, PMU,
Nagar Bhaban, Dhaka.We have started campaign on 27/07/2020.
During this time, we have been miking the audio message at
important road, commercial area, and residential area of Cumilla
City Corporation. Covered area is ward no
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,13,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27 of
Cumilla City Corporation.
During this campaign period, we have distributed those leaflets,
which we got from PMU. We also distributed leaflets to increase
the awareness among the community about our services.

Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity (BNA) Project
DAM- COVID-19 related activity report on July-Sep 2020 Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is implementing a project named Feed the Future Bangladesh
Nutrition Activity at Patuakhali District. This project has been designed to empower and
support market and community actors to address underlying causes of malnutrition in the ZOI.
By the end of BNA, children under 5, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescents (girls and
boys) in the ZOI will be better able to meet their nutritional needs and practice healthier
behaviors. Mainly, optimal nutrition is fundamental to achieving USAID’s wider mission to end
extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our national
security and prosperity.
The BNA will contribute to improvements in nutrition outcomes for children under 5, pregnant
and lactating women, and adolescents (girls and boys) in the country’s Feed the Future (FTF)
zone of influence (ZOI), which comprises 21 districts in Barisal, Dhaka, and Khulna Divisions.
Three results underwrite this goal: 1) consumption of nutritious, diverse, and safe diets by rural
households; 2) social and economic empowerment of women and adolescents; and 3) adoption
of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Achievement of improvements in all three
result areas is required to ultimately positively affect nutritional outcomes.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission works as an implantation Partner of Feed the Future Bangladesh
Nutrition Activity (BNA) project and during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, different
initiatives have been taken in different level. During the pandemic situation of COVID-19 related
activities are:

PPE distribution among (Food, Wash & AIR) Registered Vendors
Cleaning materials distribution at Mosques
Initiatives Miking and Leaflet distributed for awareness rising about COVID-19 in the
Growth Center’s catchment area.
To ensure social distance sign marking at Growth Centers
Established hand washing station at Growth Centers level: In Patuakhali District (Patuakhali
Sadar Upazila, Mirzagonj Upazila and Kalapara Upazila), DAM-BNA is working at 9 growth
centers. During the COVID-19 situation, there has been established total 18 Hand washing
Stations (3 Permanent and 15 Temporary) among the 9 growth centers. These Hand washing
stations were set up with the instruction of Market Management Committee (MMC) and
Business Associations (BAs) of the growth centers and those hand washing stations are
regularly maintained from the project and Monitored by the MMC and project staffs. The
Community people- Customers, vendors, Different Stake holders, Adolescents and other market
related stakeholders are benefited from the initiatives by Dhaka Ahsania Mission and can wash
their hands when they come in the growth center. In each hand washing stations, there is
arranged 2 basins and per day more than 300-500 people can clean their hands properly in each
hand washing station. Such initiatives have been appreciated by the different level of people of
the growth center and community.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) distribution among (Food, Wash & AIR) registered
Vendors:
Dhaka Ahsania Mission has taken some steps in vendor’s level of the growth centers through
the support at patuakhali. For the social safety and reduction of the effect of corona virus in the
community level, about 377 PPE have been distributed among (Food, Wash & AIR) registered
Vendors. Implemented areas in Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzagonj and Kalapara Upazila at the
catchment areas of the 9 growth centers to maintain proper hygiene and safe safety from
communicable disease of COVID-19 and
mentioned to aware the community people
regarding the corona virus issues.
Cleaning Materials distribution at Mosques:
Corona Virus has spread out in all over world
and due to the pandemic situation; people are
facing a critical moment. BNA project has
taken some steps in root level of the society through the support of implementation partner
Dhaka Ahsania Mission at patuakhali. For the social safety and reduction of the effect of corona
virus in the community level, some cleaning materials have been distributed in the mosques of
the implemented areas in Patuakhali Sadar upazila, Mirzagonj Upazila and Kalapara Upazila.
About 189 mosques are ensured to proper distribution of the cleaning materials (Lysol, Harpic,
Soaps) at the catchment areas of the 9 Growth centers and the Mosque authority or Imam has
been instructed to maintain proper hygiene in the mosques and mentioned to aware the
community people regarding the COVID-19 issues.
Initiatives Miking and Leaflet distribution for awareness rising about COVID-19 in the Growth
Center’s catchment area: Dhaka Ahsania Mission which designed to empower and support
market and community actors to address underlying causes of malnutrition in Patuakhali.
During the COVID-19 situation, DAM aims to work in focusing on awareness rising. For that
issue, DAM-BNA project has taken some initiatives just like Miking at community level, Leaflet
distribution, Text Message dissemination among the different stakeholders etc. To ensure
Nutrition food consumption and aware about Corona virus, miking in every 2-3 days gap has
been conducted in every implemented areas and along with that leaflet has been distributed
among the people of community, different stake holders of growth centers, customers and so
on. Moreover, different text message and voice messages has been disseminated from the BNA
project among the different vendors, Religious leaders, Market stake holders.
To ensure social distance sign marking at Growth Centers:
Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity, DAM has taken some initiatives to confront the COVID-19
situation in Bangladesh and Dhaka Ahsania Mission is working for implementation in the root
level of Patuakhali District. As, Growth center is the target area of BNA project and Corona virus
can be spread up easily in the mass gathering like growth center, so BNA may focus to ensure of
the safety in the Growth centers and it’s stake holders. Public transmission would be occurred if
the proper safety can’t be ensured. In consideration this issue, BNA has taken the initiative for
marking in front of the shops at 9 Growth centers which may ensure the social distance among
the customers, vendors and other people who come at market in different purposes. Minimum
3 feet distance had been ensured in the different parts of the growth centers and the vendors
are influenced to maintain and ensure the social distance for safety among the customers as
well. The Market Management committee as well as other stake holders appreciated such kind
of initiative from BNA project through Dhaka Ahsania Mission during the crucial situation of the
Bangladesh.
