    DFSMGRADUATION2015

RPSM Graduation Haiku 2015 Clear hearts, open minds; You came to the Bronx with love, Hope, and commitment. Time goes quickly here, Just three turns round the sun, And you’re moving on. Your orbits were quick, But your legacy of care Confirms you were here. Without seeking fame, Or making it about you, You made a difference.

Your patients love you, You have shown them what it means To be well cared for. Over three short years, You grew into the healers You were meant to be. You have learned much here, But you have also listened, And served, and taught. We are your teachers, And now your colleagues, maybe One day your patients.

We thank your families For sharing you; you’re always Part of our family. And though you’re leaving, Wherever you go, you’re here; You’re always welcome. So care for yourselves, Just as you care for patients, You deserve no less. Be kind, be gentle, Be strong, be safe; love well, and Remember to breathe.

    Peter Selwyn, M.D.

    CHAIRMAN’S AWARDS

Kevin Fiori, MD, MPH Closing the Delivery Gap: Operationalizing the Care Delivery Value Chain for HIV/AIDS Care Quality Improvement in Togo, West Africa. Summary: Significant gaps in transitions between care stages were elucidated in areas that would likely not have been identified through traditional assess-ment methods. Multiple areas of overlapping services by external providers highlighted inefficiencies in the overall delivery system and can inform future pro-grammatic decisions. The operationalization of the CDVC with quality improvement initiatives affords a unique approach to improve care.

Marie Flores, MD, PhD, MPH Differences in contraceptive use and unintended pregnancy among US-born and foreign-born Latina populations in New York City. Summary: In NYC, among women giving birth to a singleton infant, U.S.-born Latina mothers were more likely to experience UIP and less likely to use a con-traceptive method than foreign-born Latina mothers. Jonathan Ross, MD Clinical outcomes of undocumented immigrants with HIV infection in Bronx, NY Summary: Compared to matched controls, undocu-mented immigrants presented with more advanced disease; however, among patients established in care, rates of retention in care and virologic suppression were better for undocumented immigrants than matched controls.

DANIEL LEICHT AWARDS Krishika Graham, MD From Boosters to Books: Enhancing Emergent Literacy in the Medical Home. Summary: This brief literacy promoting intervention significantly changed attitudes and practices toward reading and increased public library usage. Kimberley Neroda, MD Implementation of Opioid Overdose Prevention with Naloxone at CHCC Summary: This project, a work in progress, seeks to increase availability of naloxone in the community by integrating the training of patients in naloxone use and dispensing it directly in clinic. Oladimeji Oki, MD Young Men: Know Your Rights Summary: In the future, providing quality health anticipatory guidance in a non-health care setting may be a feasible and encouraging way to reach these people who historically have poor health outcomes and low utilization of the health care system.
