Publichousingwasdevelopedtoprovidestablehousingforlow-incomefamilies.Ithassincebecomesynonymouswithconcentratedpoverty.Programstoreducepovertyhavefocusedondismantlingpublichousingtobereplaced,ifatall,bymixedincomedesignalternatives.Studieshaveshownthatlow-incomeresidentslivinginpublichousinghavedeleterioushealthoutcomes.Itisnotclear,however,howpublichousingresidentsfareonanumberofcardiovascularhealthindicatorscomparedtothosewithanalternatelow-incomehousingarrangement.Mechanisticmodelsthatincorporatehousingwithneighborhoodaccesstoresourcesandindividualbehaviorsarepoorlyde inedandun-derstood.However,examiningindividual-andneighborhood-leveldatainsynergisticwayscanprovideanimportantcontributiontoexistinghealthcampaignstoaddresscar-diovasculardiseaseinlow-incomepopulations.Thecurrentproposalusesanovelge-ocodingapproachtoanalyzeprimarycareelectronicclinicalrecorddatainrelationtohousingandneighborhoodleveldatafromvarioussourcesinordertotrackhealthout-comes.Thisanalysisapproachfocusesonindividualleveldatawithinthecontextofthepatient'shousingandneighborhoodenvironment.ThisK01awardisdesignedtopro-videthefoundationbothconceptualandtechnicalforDr.Chamberstodevelopacareertrajectorythatcombinespriorexperienceinsocialandbuiltenvironmentaldetermi-nantsofhealthwithnewknowledgeinsocio-ecologicmodels,graphicalscience,multi-levelstatisticalmodeling,andresearchinformatics.Thelong-termgoalistodevelopclinicalandpublichealthpartnershipsthatwillusemulti-sourcedata,includinghous-ingandneighborhoodenvironment,tothedevelopinterventionsthattargetvulnerablepatientpopulations.

Thisgrantwillfundthedevelopmentandimplementationofanewpreventivemedicine(PM)residencyprogramwithafocusonintegrativehealth(IH),fullyintegratedwithanex-istingresidencyinfamilymedicineintheDepartmentofFamilyandSocialMedicine.ThedepartmentprovidesprimarycaretrainingintheBronx,whichfacesthehighestratesofpovertyandworsthealthindicatorsinNewYorkState.Thefederallyquali iedhealthcen-tersthatserveasfamilymedicinetrainingsitesareindesignatedprovidershortageareas.TheBronxisde icientinbothprimarycareprovidersandpreventivemedicinepractition-ers.Trainingthatcombinespreventivemedicineandfamilymedicine,providedoverfouryearsinsteadof ive,withafocusonintegrativehealth,willmeettheneedforphysicianswithknowledgeandskillsinpopulationhealth,healthpromotion,qualityimprovementanddeliverysysteminnovationtoaddresshealthdisparitiesandthesocialdeterminantsofhealth.Theprogram’suniquefocuswilladvancetheincorporationofcompetency-andevi-dence-basedintegrativehealthtrainingandpracticesintotheprimarycareofunderservedpopulations.Objectivesforthegrantinclude:(1.1)increasingknowledgefor4preventivemedicine(PM)residentsofhealthpromotion,diseasepreventionandintegrativehealth(IH)atthepopulationlevelthroughcompletedMPHdegrees,aPMcurriculumandanIHcurriculum;(1.2)increasingskillsfor4PMresidentsinaddressingpopulationhealthandIHthroughatleast1practicumand1capstoneprojectforeachof4PMresidents;(1.3)in-creasingphysicianimpactofpopulationhealththroughpracticumassignmentswithatleast1communitypartnerand1IHproviderforeachof4PMresidents;(2.1)increasingphysicianknowledgeofbringingtogetherpublichealth,integrativehealthandprimarycaredeliverythroughcompletionofMPHdegreesfor4PMresidents,completionofagen-eralPMandIHcurriculumby20familymedicineresidentswithintensiveversionsdeliv-eredto4PMresidents;(2.2)increasingphysicianskillsinbringingtogetherpublichealth,IHandprimarycaredeliverythoughcompletionofatleast1practicumandcapstonepro-jectforeachof4PMresidents;(2.3)increasingphysicianimpactonintegrationofpublichealth,IHandprimarycaredeliverythroughpracticumassignmentswithatleast1institu-tionalpartnerbyeachof4PMresidents;(3.1)increasingthenumberofprimarycarefacul-tywithexpertiseinteachingPMandIHthroughcompletedintensivetrainingfor4facultymembersanddirectinstructionofresidentsbyeachfacultymemberinatleast1newareaofcorecontent;(3.2)expandingthecontentandnumberofPMandIHeducationalexperi-encessharedacrossdisciplinesthroughdevelopmentofcurriculainatleast2newcontentareasanddeliveryofintegratedcontentto4PMand20primarycareresidents.

Combine first 3 ingredients in a bowl.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Flatten each pork piece to 1/2-inch thickness using your fingertips. Add pork to pan; spoon soy sauce mixture evenly over pork slices. Cook 3 minutes or until browned. Turn pork over; cook 3 minutes or until done. Remove from pan.

Add salsa and preserves to pan; increase heat to medium-high. Cook 30 seconds or until slightly thick, stirring constantly. Serve pork with salsa mixture, and sprinkle with cilantro.
