Welcome to Devizes Rugby Club and the Under 12’s squad in particular.
Over the following pages you should find all the information needed by
parents and squad members to allow you to play an active part in our
squad. If you need more information or there is something missing that
we should add please contact me so we can update the booklet.
Squad numbers this year are expected to be about 25 players and three
coaches so there is a busy and enjoyable season ahead!
Chris Dyer – U12’s Lead Coach
2Welcome
New PlayersPlease e-mail your details to Chris Dyer so you can be added to the
distribution list. We need to know –
• Player’s full name & date of birth
• Names, E-mail address(es) and mobile numbers for the adult(s) who
will be bringing the player to the club.
• Any medical or other concerns the coaches need to be aware of.
FUN is compulsory at Rugby!
At times it will be challenging, at times it will be cold, wet and windy and on
rare occasions people will get hurt, but if you ever hear a squad member
say “Dad (or Mum), I don’t want to go today, it’s boring,” please tell us.
The key objective for the coaching team is player retention, we want to
finish the season with more players than we started with. We want our
coaching sessions to be fun, enjoyable and safe. We also need to develop
the players to be better at rugby and to be better individuals, upholding the
core values of rugby, and always remembering
Kids first,
winning second!
Membership Fees
First Junior player in a family; £55, all subsequent Junior players in the same family £30
Non-playing adult members £70, Adult playing members £80.
If you are a member of the main club any child is £30.
We would like to encourage all parents to consider becoming Non-Playing members, you don’t
have to of course, but the additional income really can go a long way to providing long term
benefits to the Club and it’s facilities, from which we all benefit, plus you will receive discounts at
the bar and access to England International tickets.
Membership Fee Process
If your player is already registered with the Club (i.e. has played in a previous season) all you need
to do is give a cheque payable to Devizes RFC, for the appropriate amount, with the players name
or names on the reverse (along with the age group they’ll be playing for).
For new members you must complete an RFU Registration form, a photo consent form and submit
two passport photos of the player with the form. You can collect a pack with the form and
addressed envelope from Juliette in the kitchen any Sunday morning. Please then send this
directly to Carol Osland at 7 Park View, Devizes, Wilts. SN10 1PJ.
Throughout September there will be somebody in the Club House collecting membership fees.
If you do not pay in September your player will not be allowed to play in matches for the Club
until their membership fees are paid (although they can still train).

5 Organisational Stuff
CommunicationsAll squad communications are handled by Chris. This normally takes the form
of a mass e-mail. If you reply please remember not to use “reply to all” unless
you have a really witty observation which we can all chuckle at.
Mouth guardsA mouth guard is compulsory for ALL Devizes rugby players at ALL levels.
The club holds a stock of mouth guards which can be purchased from Juliette
in the kitchen.
First AidThe club employs a qualified specialist 1st aider to be available at the ground
on Sundays and there are also 1st aiders among the age groups. Each age
group has also been equipped with a Rugby specific full First Aid kit.
KitTraining shirts - Devizes junior rugby colours are shown on previous page,
white shorts, and black socks with white tops. All age groups are provided
with Club match shirts for fixtures.
Kit ShopRaging Bull ( www.ragingbull.co.uk/Shop/Devizes-RFC/188.aspx ) there are
plenty of DRFC Senior/Ladies branded kit options available on the site as well
as juniors. We will continue to have gum shields and Club Ties available from
Juliette in the kitchen.
Touchline ConductWe are gaining a reputation for being a great team to play, both on the field
and off. Not only do we want great players but we want great supporters too!
Please encourage all the team vocally throughout our matches but please
refrain from negative comments aimed at individuals, either team or the
referee. Please leave positioning and tactics to the coaching team, the
players need to learn to take direction from the bench but also need to think
for themselves!
6More Organisational Stuff
Squad SelectionThe coaches choose the squad very carefully taking in to consideration
factors such as knowledge of the opposition, personal development and
ability, players available on the day, training effort and fairness. For
tournament squads we try to ensure that all players get a similar amount of
game time during the day. For cup matches we would expect to field our
strongest available squad.
Player WelfareFor the Under 12 age group and younger, we do require each child to have a
responsible adult present at the club throughout the session. “Present” does
not mean that you have to stick with a single age group all morning – many
parents will have players in different age groups – but still available around the
club.
Also please be aware that on rare occasions it may be necessary for a coach
to make contact with a player, this might be to examine an injury or to coach
correct posture in safety critical areas, e.g scrum, tackle. This needs consent
from both the player and the parent. If you ever have concerns about this
please contact the clubs Safeguarding Officer or Chairman.
