The main reason for putting all of this info into a downloadable PDF is simply, there is a lot of info to relay as far as what functionality of Traktor has been mapped to the Mixtrack. I’ve done extensive use of the modifiers in the Controller Manager to create 2 main layers and 4 sub layers of control allowing you access to all 4 decks plus 4 hot cues per deck, all 4 FX Units (2 of them setup as Filters) as well as a utility layer for access to functions like recorder control and beat grid adjustments. The 2 Deck map retains the Scratch function as opposed to giving you access to Decks C & D. Some of the base functions, which were originally mapped to the Mixtrack, were changed in favor of controls, which I felt provide a bit more functionality for the “mixing” style of DJ as opposed to a more “performance/controllerism” style DJ, which I am not. In order to get all the functionality mapped to the Mixtrack to control Traktor, a few initial settings inside Traktor must be made to avoid mappings that do nothing with relation to “hands on control” of Traktor Pro. Introduction

The TSI files referenced in this guide are based on a heavily modified

default TSI file for Traktor Pro and the Numark Mixtrack USB Controller.

Traktor Setup

With the Traktor Preferences panel open, navigate to the Effects page and make sure you have the Effects Unit Routing set to 4 FX Units as Inserts. In the Effects Panel Mode, FX Units 1 & 2 must be set to Advanced and FX Units 3 & 4 set to Chained.

The reason the FX Units modes must be set to Advanced and Chained

modes for the FX Units is the Controller Manager has specific entries for control of the effects for either Advanced or Chained modes. Since I have FX Units 1 & 2 set to Advanced for more tactile control over the individual effects parameters, leaving these units in chained mode will not allow the controller to properly communicate with Traktor. Once the modes are properly set, FX Units 3 & 4 should be set to “Filter:92” as these are going to act as the freely assignable filters I’ve mapped out on the Mixtrack controller.

FX Unit Panel

The next step is to set up a few layouts in the Layout Manager, as 4

Decks and 4 FX Units is a lot to see all at once on a single computer screen, and really isn’t possible on something like a small laptop screen. I’ve included control for cycling through the layouts on the Mixtrack controller, so setting up as many layouts as needed shouldn’t be an issue. As an example, my laptop has a 16” screen, so I have two 4 Deck layouts. One is setup with mini Decks and no Advanced Panels to show the Effects Panel, and the second layout setup with full Decks showing the Advanced Panels for manipulation of beat grids and Hotcues.

Sample Layout 1

Sample Layout 2

Once the Effects Panels are properly configured, and a few layouts have been saved, all Traktor Pro parameters mapped in the custom Mixtrack TSI file should work as explained in the next section. * All Faders and Knobs that share functionality due to the custom mapping have “Soft Takeover” enabled. * All 4 Deck and 2 Deck mappings are shared between the 2 TSI files, with the exceptions noted by a 2 Deck heading in the next section.

Mixtrack Remapped 4 Deck Controls Overview

The first area of controller re-mapping involved the removal of the “Scratch” function from the Scratch buttons (15) on both sides of the Mixtrack controller. The Modifier 4 & 7 associations were left assigned to these buttons in the Controller Manager and used for switching between Decks A & C with Modifier 4 on the left side of the controller, and switching between Decks B & D with Modifier 7 on the right side of the controller.

• LED Off (15) - Deck A Left, Deck B Right • LED On (15) - Deck C Left, Deck D Right

The “Keylock” functionality was removed from the Keylock buttons

(22), and Modifier associations were assigned to these buttons for switching between FX Units 1 & 3 Deck assignments with Modifier 2 on the left side of the controller and FX Units 2 & 4 Deck assignments with Modifier 5 on the right side of the controller. All Loop functionality was removed from the Loop Control buttons (29) for use as Deck A, B, C & D assignments.

• LED Off (22) – FX Unit 1 Left, FX Unit 2 Right • LED On (22) – FX Unit 3 Left, FX Unit 4 Right

The “Tick” function was removed from the Tick Button (24) and

Modifier 8 was assigned to this button as a [Shift] key, or alternate layer.

• LED Off (24) – Default state • LED On (24) – [Shift] or Alt Layer

4 Deck Control

Basic Sync and Transport control of each Deck along with EQ and

Volume faders is switchable between Decks A/C & B/D based on the modifier status at button (15) on each side of the controller. The basic controls switchable between Decks are:

• Play/Pause (16) • Cue (18) • Stutter/Cue-Play (17) • Sync (19) • Volume Fader (11) • Load Track (10) • PFL Cue (5) • EQ High (2) • EQ Mid (3) • EQ Low (4) • EQ Kills (25) • Next/Prev Cue Marker (21) [remapped pitch bend buttons]

2 Deck Control

In the 2 Deck mapping, buttons (15) are used to turn the Scratch function On/Off.

4 Deck Control [Shift] When the [Shift] button (24) is activated, several additional controls

are activated for further control of the Deck parameters. These functions are also Deck specific dependant on which Deck is selected at button (15).

• EQ High (2) becomes Track Gain • EQ Mid (3) becomes Track Pan • EQ Kill Low (25) becomes Beat Grid (BPM) Lock/Unlock • Next/Prev Cue Marker (21) becomes Beat Grid nudge +/- • FX Unit 1 & 2 Select (27) becomes Advanced Panel Select • FX Unit Deck assignments (29) become Deck Hotcues 1-4

2 Deck Control [Shift]

Buttons (15) are assigned to the Scratch function and therefore do not switch [Shift] control between Decks A & C or B & D respectively.

FX Unit Controls

The FX Units 1 & 2 controls are mapped to the 3 encoders above the jog wheels on each side of the controller and FX Units 3 & 4 which are setup as filters, are mapped to the now unused pitch faders (20) on each side of the controller as well. Since FX Units for each side of the controller will share an ON/OFF button (26), This will be dependant of the status of the FX Unit selection button (22). FX parameters are:

• FX Unit 1 & 2 Select (27) • FX Unit 1 & 2 Dry/Wet (28) [middle encoder] • FX Unit 1 & 2 Parameter 3 (28) [outer encoder] • FX Unit ON/OFF (26) • FX Unit 3 & 4 Amount * (20) • FX Unit Deck Assignments (29)

* With FX Units 3 & 4 set as Filter:92 in Chained mode, the Pitch Fader (20) acts as a High-Pass filter when pushed up past the center marker and acts as a Low-Pass filter when pulled down below the center marker.

Center Section

The Center section of the controller has had a few of the controls rearranged for better placement.

• Master Volume (6) • Cue Monitor Volume (7) • Cue Mix (12)

Center Section [Shift] The [Shift] button (24) provides additional Center Section control of

parameters for the Recorder and Layout selection.

• Record Gain (6) • Record ON/OFF (25) [EQ Kill High on right side of controller] • Layout Selection (8)

Well, that about covers all the changes I’ve made to the base Traktor Pro Mixtrack TSI file. The TSI file was mapped using Traktor Pro 1.2.7 on Windows 7 64-Bit. If you have any questions, hit me up on the forum you found this posted on. Cheers, - Devil_07
