What is the NIHR
Started in 2006 and has transformed NHS research • increased the volume of applied health research• driven faster translation of discoveries into benefits for patients• developed and supported the people who conduct and
contribute to applied health research
NIHR offers a wide range of funding opportunities• Research centres, programmes and projects• Research training awards (managed through TCC)
NIHR Training Co-ordinating Centre (TCC)
• Makes training awards to researchers whose work focuses on people and patient-based applied health research
• Awards managed by TCC and funded by Department of Health• Research must be relevant to the NHS, focused on current and
future needs of patients / public and expected to have impact within 5 years of completion
