We need to “chart our course” so that we all know where we are, where we are going and how we will get there so we can work together to make it happen.


In ancient times, mariners set out for new worlds with the vaguest ideas about where they were heading. What happened? • They were unable to navigate the waters and they perished•It took a long time to find where they were going •When they arrived, they didn’t always know where they were

Mission: Effective Districts

Great districts row as one. Like a crew team, they are only effective when they row in sync in the same direction.


Mission: Effective DistrictsAn effective district

is a tightly aligned community, marked by a palpable sense of common purpose and shared identity.

It is not a “you and me”, but a “WE.”

By contrast, a weak district is fractured, with a group individuals each operating under their own agenda.

Vision: What do we want to accomplish for students?

Vision: The actualization of our common mission.

Simply by virtue of the energy it creates, shared vision becomes a resource or an asset that propels the organization toward a better future.



A vision is a compelling picture of a preferred future that motivates us to act.

What makes it compelling is it is something people can see or envision themselves doing.



Take an imaginary trip through time, ending up 3-5 years in the future. Turn on the evening news.
