// Home of the Western Bad Girls and Women Outlaws...this is a list of known outlaws and others of the American frontier popularly known as the “Wild West”. Many of those listed have been wanted by authorities at one time or another such as: Cattle Kate, Little Britches, Belle Star, Joan Jamison, Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane.
// Stories of the gold rush long captivated millions of gold prospectors, drawn by the faintest rumor, generating countless con-fl icts and founding pioneer settle-ments stretching across an entire continent. Only some of the veins could last more than a few years, with mines of varying depths, thus perpetuating the extreme scarcity of gold until the 1890s. The town of Goldfi eld attracted 1,500 fortune seekers in just a few years, before becoming today’s ghost town.

“On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammelled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what
we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted.

HORSLALO I
// Under British Common Law, being branded an outlaw was one of the harshest punishments meted out by the ju-dicial system. Cloaked in mystery, outlaws often became fi ction-al characters, especially in Westerns. The most famous outlaws were Phoolan Devi, Pancho Villa, Lampião, Billy the Kid, Ishikawa Goemon, Dick Turpin, Ned Kelly, and Belle Starr.

// Many years ago, Route 66 crossed the United States from Atlantic to Pacifi c. For almost a century, this was the main commer-cial and tourist highway to the West Coast. Over the years, Route 66 took on almost mythical proportions, an aura that endures to this day. The glory years are gone and most stretches of the highway have virtually disappeared, but nostalgia for this icon has made it a popular attraction that charmed Deux par deux.

LONGLONG WAY
FROM HOME IT WAS A MONDAY, A DAY LIKE ANY OTHER DAY, I LEFT THE SMALL TOWN FOR THE APPLE IN DECAY,
IT WAS MY DESTINY, IT'S WHAT WE NEEDED TO DO, THEY WERE TELLING ME, I M TELLING YOU.-
I WAS INSIDE LOOKING OUTSIDE, THE MILLIONS OF FACES, BUT STILL I M ALONE, WAITING, I WAS EVER WAITING, PAYING A PENANCE, I WAS LONGING FOR HOME.
-I M LOOKING OUT FOR THE TWO OF US, I HOPE WE LL BE HERE WHEN THEY RE THROUGH WITH US.
-I WAS INSIDE LOOKING OUTSIDE, OH, THE MILLIONS OF FACES, BUT STILL I M ALONE, WAITING,
I WAS EVER WAITING, I COULD FEEL THE TENSION, I WAS LONGING FOR HOME.-
I M LOOKING OUT FOR THE TWO OF US, AND I HOPE WE LL BE HERE WHEN THEYRE THROUGH WITH US, I M A LONG WAY FROM HOME.
-MONDAY, SAD, SAD MONDAY, SHE S WAITING FOR ME, BUT I M A LONG, LONG WAY FROM HOME.

ON THE CACTUS ROAD
// Gold deposits are most often found in stream-beds. The lonely prospector’s tools were quite rudimentary: a pick, shovel and min-er’s pan. It was hard, exhausting work that did not always pay off.

// The majestic monolith of Superstition Mountain is the world famous icon that separates urban luxury and wilderness adventure. At 3,000 feet high, Superstition Mountain seems to stand macho guard protecting the lore, myths, stories past and the spectacular wilderness that still belongs to yesterday.

// Red desert stretching to the horizon, can-yons, dunes, bizarrely chiseled mountains, petrifi ed forests... Sumptuous burnished landscapes of Arizona and Eastern California, sprinkled with a giant cactus, the stunning “Joshua Tree.” Marked by the initial inhabitants of the New World, Native Americans, with a Spanish fl air... the incarnation of the mythical Far West! Cactus is the common name of plants in the Cactaceae family. Almost all are thick succulent, xerophytic plants that store water in their specially adapted tissues to weather the long periods of drought. A few types of cactus found in Arizona: Engelmann’s Prickly Pear, Claret Cup Hedgehog, Organ Pipe, Saguaro, Teddy Bear Cholla, Cane Cholla Fruit, Cholla Wood, Santa Rita Prickly Pear, Beavertail Prickly Pear, Desert Garden.

// Legend holds that Jacob Waltz appeared in Phoenix sometime in the 1870s with many bags of ore rich in gold. He was a heavy drinker, spent money like there was no tomorrow and bragged about his huge gold strike. He had found the richest mine that ever was. It was worth millions. He fl atly refused to re-veal the exact location of the mine but hinted that it was in the Superstition Mountains. The rugged and aus-tere Superstition Mountains start about 50 km east of Phoenix. In those days, few people ever ventured there. Those who did were rarely seen again. The Supersti-tions were sacred land and the fortifi ed homeland of the formidable Apache.

// Located in Arizona’s high desert under the towering southwestern rim of the vast Colorado Plateau, the city of Sedona is surrounded by natural beauty and blessed with an ideal climate. Strategically situated at the mouth of spectacular Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona’s main attraction is its stunning array of red sandstone formations, the Red Rocks of Sedona. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun.Historically, Sedona was a rural ranching community located far off the beaten path, but its unsurpassed natural beauty became nationally known through the motion picture industry. Today, commercials and television shows still are filmed in the unsettled areas surrounding this city, which annually attracts more than 4 million tourists from around the world.
