Deal or No Deal ART! Portfolio Inventory – P37
This is a homemade portfolio, please tell the children to handle them with care.
The paintings remain in the same briefcase only the amounts are removed and changed.
If handle or briefcases do rip there are templates inside to make new ones.
Paperclip amounts and turn backwards inside the briefcases to prevent peeking.
Each briefcase amount is entered on the grid board and erased as briefcases are selected and opened.
BANK OFFER
.01 $5,000 $1 $10,000 $10 $ 50,000 $100 $100,000 $250 $250,000 $500 $500,000 $1000 $750,000 1,000,000
SET UP 1 Student is the Scorekeeper.
The “Scorekeeper” will draw a grid/board on the chalkboard.
At the Top of the grid/ board leave a space for the Banker’s Offer
ERASE BANK OFFER AND EACH BREIFCASE AMOUNT THAT IS OPENED AFTER EACH TURN.
2 Students act as Bankers They will agree and decide on each offer made by the Bank and then call Howie. 1 Student is Howie
1 Student is the Contestant 15 Students are randomly picked to hold the Briefcases
Each briefcase holder will join the audience after their briefcase has been opened.
Remaining students will make up the audience and cheer on the contestant. HOW TO PLAY The contestant chooses 1 briefcase it is set on a table next to the contestant and left unopened. The remaining briefcases are held by the selected students as “briefcase holders” The contestant selects 4 briefcases to open one at a time, revealing a dollar amount and a description of the master artwork inside. The briefcase holder reads about each artwork and announces the amount in the briefcase/ After the 4th briefcase is opened the banker offers a dollar amount to the contestant to stop and see who has the more expensive artwork/briefcase amount the Contestant or the Banker. “Howie” will tell the contestant the offered amount and ask “DEALor NO DEAL” The Contestant will decide to accept the offer/ DEAL or reject the offer/ NO DEAL. If the offer is rejected 3 more briefcases are opened, and the game follows the same pattern as before, until only one briefcase is left for both the contestant and the banker. The Contestant is the winner if he/she has the more expensive artwork at the end of the game.

This is a great portfolio for the older students, some 6th

about Chuck Close this year in their English class so it is a great tie-in. The
posters are amazing and the students enjoy marveling over the paintings which
look more like exquisite photographs. This is a more contemporary portfolio so it
may be a nice change from some of the classical artists. Suggested for grades 3 –
6.

The fun thing about this
portfolio is that the artwork is almost cartoon-like. It looks like anime (film animation), yet the artist created the works way back in the early 1800’s. There are posters of the Great Wave, Mt. Fuji, plus cute puppies and an activity that allows the students to be divided into groups and discuss individual works of art among their group. A story book is included but this portfolio is probably more suited for grades 3-6.
