I recently sat down with singer / songwriter / musician / model / actress Susan Boyoung Bailey and just like her title, she is all over the place. She writes poetry. She is co-author of the children’s book, Huckleberry Robin; her first children’s e-book, Animal Ballet. She plays guitar, violin, and piano among others. She has appeared in print & commercials for Bank of America, Honda Jet, Allegacy Credit Union, Rubbermaid Medical, Shawlsmith London, ELLE Interior (Sweden), and Gusto. She has enjoyed performing in such plays and musicals as Macbeth, The Wizard of Oz, and Oklahoma. Sometimes I wonder if she ever gets tired.

Her music has bits of folk, alternative, rock, pop, and country, even though she does not hear the country in her own music. What she does hear, however, is a very natural and organic form of original music

that resonates within the local area. Her full-length album, Landscape Changes, is heavy on the banjo, mandolin, dobra, and the viola, very organic indeed.

After several years of studying ballet in New Mexico, she came to North Carolina to study at the School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. After college she started taking vocal lessons and fell in love with singing. “I realized it was my greatest passion,” says Susan.

Even though she grew up with classical music, she is yearning to play drums in a heavier band. Not metal heavy, but more on the alternative rock end. “But I do want to learn to double bass!” says Susan.

Recently Susan released her full-

length album, Landscape Changes, which is available from iTunes and Amazon. She is also working on another full-length album, which is self-produced has and is going to be called “Astro-Nautical”. It has an electronic/pop/indie rock/hip hop style and a stellar cosmic feel with the album art done by a talented Los Angeles artist, CIP (Christopher Willingham). Most of the songs have her vocals, but there are a few that are purely electronic and instrumental. “I am exploring different styles, which is a break from the folk style that I am still very attached to and will continue with.”, explains Susan.

Songs by Susan is evolving into the Susan Boyoung Bailey Band and is looking forward to taking the stage again in 2014 while still being open to collaborations.

I feel lucky that I actually got to sit down with Susan. Because sitting down is not on the agenda for Susan Boyoung Bailey.

Originally built in the 1920’s

to accommodate the needs of workers at the nearby mill, State Street has been through numerous highs and lows before transitioning to the vibrant shopping district it is today. The pedestrian-friendly area, located within McAdoo Heights on the outskirts of downtown Greensboro, is home to numerous specialty boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, salons, and small businesses that are all locally-owned and operated.

The brick sidewalks and recently renovated historic buildings provide a cozy shopping experience with

more character than contemporary strip malls. Although shoppes have come and gone, many of the current boutiques and stores have been in the area for years.

Lillo Bella has expanded from selling shoes and purses to a full-fledged boutique over the past six years.

Mark Holder Jewelers, a family-owned business, has been on State Street making and repairing jewelry onsite since 1984.

True Empire sells mens & womens clothingand accessories featuring brands such as: Lacoste, Polo, Via Spiga, Robin Jeans, &

Kernersville is a glistening haven for Christmas Joy – a place where you will find life-long residents as well as a growing community for people of all origins, cultures and backgrounds celebrating the season. Thus, the idea for “Christmas Around the World”. Welcoming various customs and celebrations from over 27 countries around the world, Kernersville’s Downtown Merchants are opening their hearts and shops to Kernersville and our surrounding communities. Come and enjoy the beginning of the Christmas Season with fun and festivities.

On Saturday, December 7th, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm, horse-drawn carriages, carolers, music, and foods from various countries, Downtown Kernersville’s Holiday Open House spreads the spirit of Christmas on every block. Passports are available for you to “visit” each country and get your passport stamped, while having fun and learning about the various customs and traditions of our friends and neighbors.

Black Friday Candlelight Strolls: Nov. 29th and Dec. 20th ~ 6pm-8pm ~ Enjoy a stroll downtown with shops staying open later to give you a chance to find that special gift!

Mom’s Morning Out: Dec. 14th ~ from 10am-12pm, bring the kids to the Main Street Baptist Church to meet Santa’s ELF and hear the Christmas Story along with Elf on the Shelf, while you shop. A few of our shops will “house” ELF, so take the little ones to look for ELF after you have had a couple of hours to ‘talk with Santa’ secretly. No Charge for Moms and Dads

Senior Holly Day: Dec. 18th ~ A wonderful time to celebrate Christmas for our Senior Community. Shop from 10am-11:15am and join us at Main Street Baptist Church at 11:30am for our Senior Holly Day Christmas Service and

Lunch. No charge for this special event.

Shopping is what we do to provide gifts to our friends and loved ones. Our attention Christmas Eve centers on the reason for the season. Jesus Christ is God’s gift to the world. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, which is highlighted by the words to the familiar Christmas carol, ‘Joy to the World’ which you will find when you Discover Downtown Kernersville.

We have all heard about the benefits of “Cloud Based Computing” and what it can do for our businesses- how it can reduce technology costs and provide for competitive advantages at the same time. So making the decision to add cloud based computing to your business model is a no-brainer, right? – hardly!

Part of the complication lies in the rapid evolution of the cloud based computing space. Not only is the technology becoming more powerful and affordable, the number of solutions to choose from is mind-boggling. This double-edged sword can work for you or against you. In one way, it increases your chances of getting the right solution, while in another, it complicates the number of decisions that one has to make.

What we will cover in our writing today, is the key decisions that one must focus on in order to invest in the right solution.

Cloud vs. On-Site

One of the biggest decisions is cloud vs. on-site. On-Site represents the traditional approach to your computing needs. You buy, maintain, and operate both the end-user equipment and the infrastructure, in order to address your business computing needs. The more recent cloud computing phenomenon allows you to buy only the end-user equipment. The Provider of Services maintains and operates the infrastructure equipment in its data center and charges you a fee for the service. Each approach has its advantages and disadvantages based upon the SLA (Service Level Agreement) and the costs.

Be sure to closely examine the costs and the degree of support that the SLA (Service Level Agreement) offers. This can be easily accomplished through a Cost-Benefit Analysis. If you don’t have the means of conducting such, contact a professional that

can help you with that undertaking.

Support And Quality Factor

Another crucial factor is support and quality of service. Cloud based solutions generally transport the data over the public internet; therefore, consistent access to, delivery of, and the ultimate security of your data is extremely important.

Be sure that your cloud based computing provider can provide end-to-end control as it relates to the delivery, integrity, and thus assure you of consistent quality in service.

Connectivity

The ultimate deal breaker is connectivity. Integrated solutions designed to work together is the value proposition that one should seek when considering cloud vs. on-site computing. Although on-site may offer more specialized features, cloud based solutions are by nature more scalable because they are designed to connect both hardware and software from as many end-points as possible.

In conclusion, make every effort to consider the few key factors listed here in order to make the most practical and intelligent decision. There are quite a few more factors to consider, however. Seek out the most knowledgeable professional to assist with this 21st Century business decision.

by Teddy Burriss - Networking Strategist

“Networking is finding, developing and nurturing relationships that mutual move people forward thru life.”

Networking events are great places to start doing this. However there are only so many hours in the day and so many networking events we can get to. We have to find other ways to develop and nurture the connections we make from networking.

Social media can play a key role in developing and nurturing relationships.

Here are three examples of using Social media in your networking:

#1 - Connect on LinkedIn. After you meet someone at a networking event and get their business card and reach out to them on LinkedIn. Take a look at their profile before you send them a LinkedIn connection request. Always include a relevant and polite note in the connection request message. The purpose of a LinkedIn connection request is to make a LinkedIn connection, nothing more. This is a good step in the development of a relationship.

Bonus Idea - If your new connection has a Twitter account, connect with them there as well. Send them a Tweet and let them know you enjoyed meeting at the networking event.

#2 - Engage with your connections - Often people go to networking events, collect business cards, maybe connect on LinkedIn or Twitter, but fail to take the relationship any further. Engaging can be simple and does not need to take a lot of time. Comment on a post they make, introduce them to another LinkedIn

member they should meet, congratulate them on a new position or Endorse them for a skill you know they have. These are just a few simple ways to engage with your connections through social media. These are good activities for nurturing the relationships with your connections.

Bonus Idea - Without being asked, write your LinkedIn connection a strong and transparent LinkedIn Recommendation. Make sure it’s a recommendation you would share publicly.

#3 - Take it IRL again - After meeting someone at a networking event, connecting with them on social media and engaging with them through social media, where possible and mutually beneficial, take the relationship back to an In Real Life conversation. Find an opportunity to talk via phone (maybe Skype or Google+ Hangout) or to meet at a local coffee shop, deli or tavern. Use this opportunity to learn more about each other and the work you each do.

“Networking is finding, developing and nurturing relationships that mutual move people forward thru life.” We do this through networking events, social media engagement and in real life conversations.
