From childhood, Mr. Peter Sammy always had the dream of working for himself. Even with the limited vision of a ten (10) year old, thoughts of owning a Fix-it-Shop or the grander dream of a TV Repair Shop began to grow. After completing his National Technicians Diploma in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and a M.Sc. in Power Systems Engineering, Mr. Sammy again began to feel the urge to start his own company. His enthusiasm further developed in 1987 at the height of the recession which followed the collapse of the oil based economy in Trinidad and Tobago with workers being retrenched, some opting for cuts in wages and some were returning the keys to their mortgaged homes to their bankers. This was possibly the worst time to begin a business but seeing the effects of retrenchment and what voluntary severance had on the workforce which remained within organizations, the decision was made in 1986 to begin the process which led to registration of his business in the name- Design Engineering Services Limited, which was then operated by himself and his sister-in-law.In its earlier period of operation, DESL was used as the

OUR MAJOR MILESTONES

vehicle to administrate the Professor George Moon Sammy Bursary for students pursuing the Master of Science Degree in Food Science and Technology at the University of the West Indies, which continues to this day. In 2010 on the death of his mother, The Myrtle Sammy Bursary was initiated and administered for students pursuing their Degree in Music at the University of the West Indies.The decade of the 1990s, which included the Nations focus on rebuilding after the attempted Coup, was a period of growth and stabilization with many of the companys systems and services being developed. We further extended our High Voltage Installation and Testing services to our competitors under the banner of Converting all Competitors to Clients thereby facilitating many small electrical contractors to offer these services to their clients, utilizing the resources of Design Engineering Services Limited. Major projects included work in the Oil and Gas Sector, design of electrical plumbing and air-conditioning systems for projects ranging from shopping malls to telecommunication transmission sites and commercial buildings both locally and in Grenada.

In keeping with our watchwords adopted from Abraham Lincoln- I may be a slow walker, but I never walk backwards, DESL continued on our growth-path over the years 2010 and 2014, and with the STOW certification being attained in 2013, we further ventured into turnkey design and installation type projects.Whilst we have modified our initial vision and the wording of our goal to reflect the changes in our working environment and our own level of maturity as an organization, our growth and diversification will not allow us to lose sight of our core values and services as we are constantly reviewing our procedures and practices to ensure that we do not deviate from who we are and what we stand for. As Design Engineering Services Limited continues our diversification thrust, continuously increasing the services offered within our targeted areas, we hold firm to our belief that the main building block of our civilization is the business enterprise and the purpose of business is to allow stakeholders to develop their quality of life while contributing to the growth and development of the organization.
