Handcrafted stock facingsHistorically, hand crafted bricks were created by pressing clay into sand dusted woodenmoulds. Once the shape was formed each brick would be turned out and fired. The sandwould then burn away in the firing process giving each brick a natural and unique texture.The basic principle of brick making hasn’t changed to this day but with the aid of modernmachinery and various mixtures of clay and sand we can create a wide range of colourswith a textured crease or sanded stock finish. These bricks are generally indented, whichis traditionally referred to as a frog.

Wirecut facingsThese bricks are manufactured by extruding clay through a die before being cutto size by wire. This extrusion process enables us to create products withsmooth, sanded or textured finishes. By using a variety of clays, sands and firingtemperatures wirecut facings are available in a wide range of colours. Wirecutfacings have a higher compressive strength and lower water absorption thanstock moulded bricks and are normally perforated.

Water struck facingsThe manufacturing process of water struck products is similar to that of stockand handcrafted bricks, the difference being - as their name suggests - waterinstead of sand is used to release them from their moulds. Water struck facingshave a smooth faced, variably textured surface, are either solid or frogged andare available in a wide range of colours.

Make your choice from an extremely varied range. Do you like the character of handcrafted bricks? Or do you prefer wirecut bricks, which are smooth,straight and have a regular shape? Anything is possiblewith facing bricks from Wienerberger. Standard orexclusive - in every shape, size and colour.
