Begin Pattern Brim—establish ribbing: CO on 84 sts with US5 (3.75 mm) needles and join for working in the round. PM at BOR. Work twisted rib (see “Special Stitches”) for 2". Body—Vice Versa pattern: PM between 28th and 29th sts and between 56th and 57th sts for pattern reps. Change to larger circular needles and work rnds 1-10 of Vice Versa pattern (see “Special Stitches” section). Rep Vice Versa pattern 2 more times. Crown decrease—Change to double pointed needles when you have too few stitches to work comfortably on circular needles Rnd 1: *K10, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (77 sts rem) Rnd 2: K. Rnd 3: *K9, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (70 sts rem) Rnd 4: K. Rnd 5: *K8, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (63 sts rem) Rnd 6: *K7, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (56 sts rem) Rnd 7: *K6, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (49 sts rem) Rnd 8: *K5, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (42 sts rem) Rnd 9: *K4, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (35 sts rem) Rnd 10: *K3, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (28 sts rem) Rnd 11: *K2, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (21 sts rem) Rnd 12: *K1, k2tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (14 sts rem) Rnd 13: *K2 tog; rep fr * to end of rnd. (7 sts rem) Finishing Cut yarn, leaving a 6" tail. Draw the yarn tail through the remaining live sts and pull to close top of hat. Weave in ends and block. Add pom pom if desired.
