You will be introduced and exposed to the design process in order to understand what is living behind a product . You will have the opportunity to delve into intensive project work geared towards creative thinking and exploring form and function . You will be working in small groups with other students, in an open discussion environment, developing your creative process from the idea to a final presentation . The final result will be presented, simulating a small exhibition, with a model and a short story in digital format .

PRODUCT DESIGN I UEM MADRID

A sun shade for Madrid Rio This course will introduce you to product design and to its related creative methodologies, through a project-based learning approach . During the first week, you will discover Madrid’s key design locations and learn to generate, develop, and defend your design ideas . You will hone your skills with the use of simple tools to represent your ideas, from freehand drawings to block models . During your second week, you will experiment with your own hands, using basic design materials and fabrication techniques to produce designs and small models for a real project: an urban sun shade that will be installed in the Madrid Rio urban park to protect pedestrians from the summer sun and heat .

GLOBAL DESIGN I IADE LISBON

Designer as a thinker for products and visual objects If you want to sharpen your skills in creative thinking and solving problems of form and function, check out this course . You will learn about the thought process and creative research that goes into creating a design object . Through intensive project work that draws on both communication and product design, you will begin to develop impactful visual content and functional objects . You will learn basic principles of design thinking, creative research, and design methodology in the fields of visual design and product design . To gain creative inspiration, your class will explore Lisbon’s cultural scene and museums, including the Design Museum and the Cultural Centre of Belém . You will also experiment with design techniques in IADE’s laboratories (3D lab, print lab, and media lab), to make your ideas come to life .

PRODUCT DESIGN II NABA MILAN

You will develop a coordinated product line using hand or digital drawing as well as a prototype product model . The project will be carried out in groups as a studio work, under the supervision of an established designer in an open discussion . Specific workshops focused on materials, history of design and on the biography of an object will expose you to multiple possible approaches .

PRODUCT DESIGN II UEM MADRID

Digital fabrication applications in design In this course, you will have the chance to effectively realize design prototypes through a variety of digital fabrication tools, from laser cutters to 3D printers . Under the guidance of expert professors, you will experiment with using a variety of machines for digital fabrication . You will visit outstanding design studios and institutions, such as the MediaLab Prado and the Universidad Europea de Madrid FabLab . You will have the chance to create your own objects at the FabLab, which is part of the MIT FabLab global network and one of the best-equipped and most dynamic digital fabrication labs in Spain .

The course gives an overall vision of the art of lighting and its related functions from a technical and stylistic point of view . Introduction to architecture This course will introduce you to the world of architecture through the use of sketching and handmade model-making as basic analog tools for architectural projects . A designer’s guide to urban art This course will give you the opportunity to develop your own visual language for urban art, through understanding and experimenting with graffiti, one of its most iconic expressions . As wild, anarchic, and cutting-edge as it might appear, graffiti writing has its roots in clearly defined typography strategies that, over decades, have become more and more stylistically diverse: distorting, inventing new letters, and applying them to various surfaces and contexts, graffiti created a new communication form in public space .

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION NABA MILAN

The course will teach you how to create interesting paperless illustrations by using software applications . It will be divided into two parts: PART 1 - digital as a faithful reproduction of hand painting instruments, PART 2: digital as an independent expressive language . The course will not focus on Photoshop or Illustrator, but on the expressive use of the digital tools . The illustrations will concern publishing (magazines and book covers), animation (inspirational drawings) and new media (tablets, apps . . .) .

The course will deal with all the aspects connected with the realization of a successful short movie: drawing, design, animation, storyboarding, acting, timing, scriptwriting . Throughout this intensive course, we will widen your elementary knowledge of photography, introducing you to a higher level in use of techniques and materials . The course will range from the basics of optics and light (aperture, shutter speed, exposure), working procedures and photographic methods to a more in depth journey through the language (composition techniques) . Also image processing in Photoshop and output techniques will be covered during the course .

Street Theatre In this course, you’ll learn to create your own visual narrative on urban life, using the language of photography . The workshop will concentrate on the theoretical and practical aspects of photographing Berlin’s pulsating street life, focusing less on buildings and more on people . Berlin, with its international and multicultural environment and incredible people-watching possibilities, offers a great opportunity for finding micro “stories” and developing your own personal approach to telling them . Conceived as a follow up of Photography I, this course will enable you to further deepen your knowledge of photographic techniques and further develop your expressive skills . You will be given a specific theme and will have to develop a concept, a mood board and a final project under the guidance of a professional photographer .

Faces of Berlin This course will guide you to visually transform your ideas as you explore the process of editing, selecting, and creating your personal approach toward street portraiture . After an introduction to the theoretical and practical aspects of portrait photography, you will learn how to approach people on the street and how to gain access to them with your camera . You will create a personal portfolio of your street portraits, with the support of experienced teachers who will guide you to develop your own individual style .

FASHION DESIGN I* NABA MILAN

An inspiring exploration of the Italian Fashion pipeline with lectures by experienced professionals and visits to Milan’s best fashion zones and showrooms . You will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System and will learn to do fashion sketches, to carry out research and to use it to develop a fashion collection .

FASHION IMAGE & STYLING I* NABA MILAN

In this course, you will develop understanding and experience in styles hunting and image styling as foundations of fashion and project approach . You will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System and will be stimulated to develop your ideas and your potential to the full . You will learn how to innovatively apply trend skills to interpret the personality of a client and his/her lifestyle, create a style for a collection look for a fashion magazine and propose a new image through clothing, accessories, photos and location combinations .

FASHION MARKETING & COMMUNICATION NABA MILAN

The course focuses on the fashion industry through a business and management perspective, providing participants the necessary tools to understand the dynamic context of the fashion business in Italy and abroad . You will be introduced to fundamentals such as fashion industry sourcing, the supply chain, and fashion buying cycle; vendor selection and fashion buying decision criteria; retail brand marketing in the fashion industry; internationalization of fashion retailing; international branding and flagship stores .

FASHION DESIGN II NABA MILAN

In this course, you will create a small coordinated collection . Concepts, moods and themes will be conceived and developed to provide inspiration for clothing, color and shape . You will experiment studio and workshop practice and work on the realization of a prototype with handcraft tailoring methods .

FASHION IMAGE & STYLING II NABA MILAN

You will receive specific technical training in the field of fashion styling to enable you to create a new image for a body and its clothes encompassing makeup techniques, hair shapes, location, light, photography . You will experience the excitement of making a photo-shooting in a real working environment: with live models, on location and in a professional studio . Personal research and observation will be used to analyze contemporary advertising vehicles for the promotion of a fashion product for a targeted consumer .

FASHION TREND SCOUTING NABA MILAN

Trend scouting is key to the development of a creative and innovative personal fashion collection . Cool Hunting as research methodology is based on the observation of what is really going on in the streets of the world . What people really do, think and wear is a powerful tool to create a new vision of Fashion . You will learn and implement the observation, research and analysis techniques related to cool hunting specifi-cally focusing on Milan .

ACCESSORIES DESIGN NABA MILAN

This course is focused on the exploration of the fundamentals of luxury accessories brand collections, Made in Italy shoes and bags . You will acquire the basic skills needed to coordinate and develop a new luxury accessories brand, and will get acquainted with the technical methodology to make shoes .

TEXTILE DESIGN NABA MILAN

The first part of this course will be devoted to gaining a basic knowledge of the available materials and structures and learning to make informed and responsible choices . Having learned what is necessary to make a textile do its job from a practical perspective, the course will then focus on the aesthetic considerations covering the fields of manipulation, surface design (printing and embroidery) and nets/lacelike fabrics (cut work, devoré) . You will then choose a specific situation for which to design a textile based on the previously acquired information and skills and produce a mini project outlining the reasons for your choices and illustrating this with samples .

VISUAL MERCHANDISING NABA MILAN

The analysis of visual merchandising strategies for showrooms, concept stores, mono-brand stores and department stores will be the key element of the course along with the understanding of the tools to create a strategic language for a fashion brand . You will develop a theoretical, analytical and critical approach through guided tours to the most relevant concept stores in Milan . At the end of the course you will be asked to develop an individual project .

This course aims at demonstrating how the idea of “design” is closely connected with the core of Italian creativity . These aspects will be examined by considering several cultural, social, artistic and industrial elements . The course will dig down to the heart of Italian design values, alternating lectures with visits . You will be able to explore and analyze the unique reality of design in Milano (features, history, and outlook) and present it properly through a personal project .

CULTURAL TOUR OF THE BEST IN FASHION IN MILAN NABA MILAN

Geared to those who wish to approach the world of Italian fashion, this creative experience is a path guiding participants through the uniqueness of Italian taste for fashion . The course will alternate lectures with visits to the best of fashion spots located in Milan: showrooms, fashion exhibitions, flagship and concept stores, cult places for cool hunters . It will provide an absorbing experience helping you to develop passion, curiosity and a broad vision of the fashion world . You will be able to explore and analyze the unique reality of fashion in Milan and present it properly through a personal project .

SKETCHING AROUND MILAN NABA MILAN

The course has the aim of both developing drawing skills while enjoying and getting to know the city of Milan, its monuments, museums, but also everyday places like street markets . The course will start in class with very simple exercises of copying from still life and photography to equip participants with some basic drawing skills . As you will gain confidence in their practice, you will start going around Milan with the teacher to take sketches from street markets and public buildings . Visits to art galleries are also included in the program, to allow you practice copying from the old masters . Different tools will be explored, from the simple pencil and color pencils, to conté crayon, china, pen, charcoal, and so on .

FOOD DESIGN NABA MILAN

Food Design is the pre-ordination of everything having to do with food, in terms of design, style and planning . It is tied both to industrial production and classic design (packaging, shape, color of the food), as well as to a cultural and visual element . You will analyze from an aesthetic, communicative and representative point of view through forms, colors and combinations of flavors and smells . The course will consist of lectures, visits to concept stores and brief design workshops . You will be then asked to create a final project .

CREDITS ISSUINGUpon successful completion of each two-week summer course (45 hours of classes), 3 ECTS credits will be issued that can be transferred at the option of your home university or academy .

If you would like to receive credits for the summer course, you should request the Summer Courses syllabi in advance from the school hosting the course . Submit the syllabi to your home university so administrators can verify whether they will recognize the credits in their curriculum .

To be eligible for ECTS credits issuing, you must be over 18, have completed your high school studies and be already enrolled in a university study path, meet the admission requirements of the course, and achieve the course’s learning objectives and outcomes .

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS All classes are held in English, so a fluent understanding of the English language is required .

Please carefully read the course descriptions before applying to a course . The schools are not re-sponsible if you choose a course level that is not suitable to your background and skills .

We will accept bookings from students 18 years old and older . If you are 16 or 17 but show a strong motivation to take introduction-level or experience-level courses, we will consider your application on the condition that your parents or legal guardians send a written declaration of responsibility .

We recommend that you bring personal equipment to use in class, such as your laptop, sketch pad, etc . Suggested items will be listed in your welcome materials, which you will receive prior to the beginning of the course .
