RESIDENTIAL PROJECT 448 Central Park West
New York, NY
THE LARCHMONT COOPERATIVE RESIDENTIAL PROJECT –CENTRAL PARK WEST, NEW YORK, NY –THESIS
LOCATION: 448 Central Park West, NYC
Residential apartment building built in 1900 & was designed in a Beaux Arts style.
It is a 7-storey structure with an area of 33,058 sq.ft., converted into a Co-op. It features a one-story rusticated stone base & a red brick body & top with terra-cotta detailing.
CORNER OF : CENTRAL PARK WEST &
W105TH STREET
CONCEPT : LIQUID CYMATICS
Cymatics, the science of wave phenomena and the effect of sound (vibration) on matter, can be
described as making sound visible .
This inspiration image above is a photograph of a cymatic experiment done with water and light.
By using sound waves to excite liquid, Cymatics reveal beautifully harmonious patterns through this interaction. Unexpected patterns emerge,
evolve and transform, constantly shifting between states of order and chaos, due to various
vibration frequencies and points of instigation.
THE LARCHMONT COOPERATIVE RESIDENTIAL PROJECT –CENTRAL PARK WEST, NEW YORK, NY –THESIS
DESIGN PROCESS:
The insertion of nodes throughout the building according to program and context within the vertical mass, has provided
the opportunity to explore different levels of frequency in the connectivity to the nodes…manifesting various zones, which can foster more intimate and personal activities to exposed
communal exchange; resulting in a more genuine Co-op community environment.
CONCEPT : LIQUID CYMATICS
This image begins to diagram the concept of the NODES and the qualitative characteristics
of their connections to each other.
