The concept and the inspiration is derived from the mineral olivine, found in volcanic areas. Though rough on the surface, when polished, is transformed into a Peridot. Difficult to distinguish, the green jewel hidden inside must be broken, polished, and refined to be fully appreciated. The same is true for complete wellness. Within each person, there is a radiance that can be polished by exercising the mind, body, and spirit. Glenice Parker Heap – Graduate Studio

CONCEPT STATEMENT

The design for the Hearth was inspired by the ideas of Frank Lloyd Wright who used the hearth as the heart of the home. The fireplace area is the central vista in the home and is the first view from the front entry. The extended screened in porch area also includes a mirrored outdoor fireplace so adults can enjoy the outdoors while gathering by a warm fire.

Three Dimensional CADD Rendering – Design Development Phase

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Create a dining environment on the

waterfront in Marco Island that could balance the existing Italian Renaissance architecture, with a

more contemporary situation. Ceilings are similar to those used in

Italian architecture using domes, and undulated transitions. Details

in intimate seating areas contain rich fabrics and finishes, that follow

the curves created in the restaurant logo.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Peoples Bank & Trust was created for community, and insight into their success helped form the basis for a design that further emphasized harmony. Throughout the space there is use of circular connections which remind you of relationship and unity. Blending warm colors with their traditional burgundy logo adds a more modern awareness to the space. Active textures help express movement and growth, bringing cohesiveness and agreement to the plan.

Harbor House is a safe place of transition providing nurturing, counseling, and guidance for runaway youth between the ages of 10 and 17. Harbor House is located in the heart of Portland where there is a strong community of artisans and environmentally conscience individuals. This design showcases not only the need for reclaiming materials, but also reclaiming lives. Seasonal colors are highlighted in the floor plan which follows the structure of a large tree. The trunk runs through the center and the braches linked to the trunk provide support and structure within the mentoring spaces, counseling rooms and open deli. The Seasons Deli serves flavors from the open market where proceeds are used to support the efforts of the Harbor House Shelter

All paints and finish materials have low VOC’s and comply

with LEED standards. Cabinetry and custom pieces were made by local Oregon artists who specialize in reclaimed materials. All areas have wide doorways, with five foot turn around spaces in the bathroom and shower spaces. Lighting fixtures are made from reclaimed glass and use compact florescent lamps that are Energy Star rated for efficiency. Fabrics are Terratex choices made from 100% recycled or compostable materials. All rooms allow for a five foot turn around to accommodate wheelchairs, and ease of mobility. Wide hallways and doorways help everyone transition from one space to another.

If we look at the word transition as a noun, it is a

passage from one stage to another that involves movement and development. In each season, there are changes and shifts in our lives that affect movement. That same spirit will work to change individuals who pass through this space to begin a new season of positive change in their lives.

Design Concept A mountain retreat inspired by the colors of the season seen in and around Mt. Hood and Willamette Valley. In the winter, there are ice blues and gray tones that seem to glisten off the mountaintop and these colors give a peaceful and serene feeling that is both relaxing and calming.
