5. REINFORCING BAR SIZES ARE NOTED IN INCH-POUND BAR SIZE DESIGNATION.
6. VERTICAL BAR LENGTH IS BASED ON THE TOTAL PIER LENGTH REQUIRED AS SHOWN IN THE TABLE.AS REQUIRED, CLASS B SPLICE LAP LENGTHS SHALL BE AS SHOWN IN THE DESIGN TABLE AND SHALLNOT BE LOCATED WITHIN THE EMBEDMENT AREA OF THE ANCHOR BOLTS. ALL CONSTRUCTION INSTALLATION WORK SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF ACI 336-1,"STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF DRILLED PIERS", LATEST EDITION, PROJECTSPECIFICATIONS, AND THIS DRAWING AS WELL AS RELATED DRAWINGS. IN GENERAL, CONCRETEINSTALLATION AND MATERIAL TOLERANCES SHOULD BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACI 117 UNLESSENGINEER APPROVES OTHERWISE.
8. SHAFT SHALL BE FOUNDED ON SOLID, UNDISTURBED SOIL. THE SHAFT BOTTOM SHALL BEEXCAVATED TO A LEVEL PLANE AND CLEARED OF LOOSE MATERIAL. FOR WET HOLES, AFTER TWOHOURS OF SETTLEMENT TIME, THE SEDIMENT IN THE BOTTOM SHALL BE LESS THAN 3". IF GREATERTHAN 3", CLEAN THE HOLE AND ALLOW CUTTINGS TO SETTLE TWO ADDITIONAL HOURS ANDREMEASURE. IF NECESSARY, REPEAT THE CLEANING AND SETTLEMENT PROCESS UNTIL THICKNESSOF BOTTOM SEDIMENT IS LESS THAN 3".
9. THE CENTER OF EACH PIER EXCAVATION SHALL NOT VARY FROM ITS DESIGNATED CENTER BY MORETHAN 1/4" FOR MULTI-LEG FRAMED STRUCTURE OR 2" FOR MONOPOLE STRUCTURES.
10. THE PIER SHAFT SHALL BE INSTALLED PLUMB TO WITHIN 2% OF THE TOTAL DEPTH.
11. NO BLASTING IS ALLOWED WITHOUT PRIOR ENGINEERING APPROVAL.
12. ALL REINFORCING STEEL SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM 3" CLEAR COVER OF CONCRETE, EXCEPT ASNOTED.
13. TIES FOR DRILLED SHAFT FOUNDATIONS SHALL BE CLOSED TIES WITH CLASS B LAP SPLICES WITHTHE MINIMUM LAP SPLICE LENGTHS INDICATED IN THE TABLE SHOWN ON THIS DRAWING. TIE TOTALLENGTH INCLUDES LAP. THE LAP LENGTH SHALL BE LOCATED ALTERNATELY 180° APART, ALONG THELENGTH OF THE REBAR CAGE.
14. AS REQUIRED, INSTALL ADDITIONAL INTERMEDIATE "Y" TIES AROUND THE ANCHOR BOLT CAGEBETWEEN PRIMARY "X" TIES, WITH "Y" QUANTITY AS SHOWN IN TABLE, TYPICAL EACH PIER. ANADDITIONAL TIE, NOT AN INTERMEDIATE TIE, SHOULD BE BUNDLED WITH THE TOP PRIMARY TIEUNLESS TIES ARE BUNDLED SETS.
15. CONCRETE POURS SHALL BE SCHEDULED TO ALLOW CONCRETING OF THE ENTIRE PIER WITHOUTINTERRUPTION DUE TO BREAK PERIODS OR END OF WORKDAY. COLD JOINTS SHALL BE AVOIDEDUNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. ANY COLD JOINTS MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THEPROJECT MANAGER.
16. FOR DRY HOLE CONDITIONS, WHEN THE CENTERLINE OF THE SHAFT IS SUFFICIENTLY OPEN ANDCLEAR, CONCRETE MAY BE PLACED BY THE FREE FALL METHOD PROVIDED THAT IT DOES NOT HITTHE SIDES OF THE SHAFT, RODS, SPACERS, OR ANY REINFORCEMENT. IF CONDITIONS DO NOTALLOW THE TOTALLY UNOBSTRUCTED PLACEMENT AS DESCRIBED ABOVE, THE USE OF ANELEPHANT TRUNK OR TREMIE PIPE SHALL BE REQUIRED. IF WATER OR SLURRY IS PRESENT IN THESHAFT THE USE OF "WET HOLE" PLACEMENT PROCEDURES UTILIZING A TREMIE PIPE MUST BEFOLLOWED.
17. THE HOLE SHALL BE CONTINUOUSLY MONITORED DURING CONCRETE PLACEMENT TO DETERMINE IFANY CAVING OCCURS. ALL CONCRETING SHALL STOP IF ANY CAVING OCCURS AND ALL LOOSEEARTH, CONTAMINATED CONCRETE, AND OTHER MATERIALS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE HOLEBEFORE CONCRETING IS TO RESUME.
18. IF A CASING IS USED FOR INSTALLATION, IT SHALL REMAIN IN PLACE. PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL BYENGINEER IS REQUIRED IF CONTRACTOR DESIRES TO REMOVE THE CASING. FOR A CASING TO BE
REMOVED, EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES AND PROPORTIONS OF CONCRETE MATERIALS SHALL INSURETHAT THE CONCRETE WILL NOT BE ADVERSELY DISTURBED UPON CASING REMOVAL.
19. DRILLING FLUID, IF USED, SHALL BE FULLY DISPLACED BY CONCRETE AND SHALL NOT BEDETRIMENTAL TO CONCRETE OR THE SURROUNDING SOIL. CONTAMINATED CONCRETE SHALL BEREMOVED FROM THE TOP OF THE FOUNDATION AND REPLACED WITH FRESH CONCRETE. FOR SOILSRANGING FROM CLAY TO COARSE SANDS, THE VISCOSITY OF MUD SLURRY SHALL BE 26 TO 40SECONDS (MARSH FUNNEL) (35-60 SECONDS-POLYMER SLURRY), AND THE FLUID DENSITY AT ONEFOOT FROM THE HOLE BOTTOM JUST BEFORE CONCRETE PLACEMENT SHALL NOT EXCEED 85 PCFFOR MUD OR 64 PCF FOR POLYMER SLURRY.
20. ANCHOR BOLTS FOR FOUNDATIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE STEEL STRUCTURE VENDOR.
21. INSTALL AND ORIENT ANCHOR BOLTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANCHOR BOLT DETAIL DRAWINGS ANDTEMPLATES SUPPLIED BY THE STEEL STRUCTURE VENDOR. THE ANCHOR BOLT CAGE SHALL BEPLACED AND CENTERED IN THE VERTICAL REINFORCING BAR CAGE.
22. ANCHOR BOLTS SHALL BE INSTALLED PLUMB, AND SHALL BE PLACED AND ADEQUATELY SUPPORTEDPRIOR TO PLACING CONCRETE.
23. CONCRETE TEST CYLINDERS SHALL BE MOLDED AND LABORATORY CURED IN ACCORDANCE WITHASTM C31 AND TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C39. THREE (3) CYLINDERS SHALL BE TAKENFROM EACH TRUCK LOAD OF CONCRETE WITH ONE TESTED AT 7 DAYS, ONE TESTED AS 28 DAYSAND ONE HELD AS A SPARE.
24. CONCRETE SHALL BE PLACED AGAINST UNDISTURBED SOIL UNLESS OTHERWISE APPROVED BYTHE ENGINEER. LOW SLUMP (3"-6") CONCRETE SHALL BE CONSOLIDATED BY IMMERSION TYPEVIBRATION (AT LEAST 800 RPM). THE ANCHOR BOLT SECTION OF HIGH SLUMP (6"-10") CONCRETEPOURS SHALL BE RODDED IN LIFTS DURING PLACEMENT USING A TAMPING ROD OR OTHER SUITABLETOOL (8 TO 10 VERTICAL INSERTIONS).
25. ALL EXPOSED SURFACES SHALL HAVE A BROOM FINISH AND ALL EDGES SHALL HAVE A 1" CHAMFER.
