When light, precious wooden structures in interpretations full

of character meet monochromatic color surfaces, fascinating

dialogues are formed: futuristic wooden decorative elements

have experienced a natural transformation, which are notably

design-oriented. Contrasting this, there are monochromatic

surfaces harmonizing the composition with a skilful choice of

color - in this way a relation, a dialogue between color and

structure is achieved.

Surface design becomes dynamic whenpowerful roughness meets formal lightness:

In line with current interior trends, thethemes of the new Interprint décors rangefrom saw-cut look to pearwood elegance.

The primary colours at the Milan FurnitureFair in May were from the colour spectrum

“yellow/beige/brown/grey/white”.

More profile, depth and emotion: manyfurniture surfaces at the large trade fairsin Cologne and Milan showed strong

character. Within the scope of the 'Milan Review',the colour and shape trends of the season werepresented with the latest Interprint décors at aphoto session at the Design Post Cologne. Eyecatchers are currently rough, almost cracked woodstructures in a 'Back to Nature' trend because theyemphasise the sensuality of the material. A majorfeature is that they form an exciting counter-weight to minimalistic interior design with smoothsurfaces and reduced shapes. Interprint hasdedicated a new line for this current trend in acollection featuring décors with a saw-cut look.

The 'Walk the Line' oak décor radiates roughcharm and the 'Cimba Oak' décor also confidentlyshows the imperfections of its saw-cut look.

White continues to be a major trend colour, especially for kitchens. 'Santino' represents afurther trendsetting décor in the collection withwhich Interprint once again brings the mostimportant furnishing themes into focus.

Surfaces with striking features are not the onlytrend that promises success for the next season:the always-popular harmonious structures, like‘Pera Padua’ stand in visual contrast.0049 2392 9500www.interprint.com

inspiring contrasts in décor

FURNITURE JOURNAL DESIGN AND DECORS SUPPLEMENT NOVEMBER 2010 • 7

White continues to be a major trend colour, especiallyfor kitchens. The 'Santino' stone décor conjures upnobility on worktops, furniture fronts and floorsthrough its light clarity. The quiet surface becomesinteresting due to a rough grain that also produces adepth effect.

“Against such a light backdrop, contrasting furniture andaccessories harmonise well.”

'Pera Padua' is a new décor in Interprint's pearwoodcollection. A décor for a feeling of well-being, thestripes, flowery swirls and light lines combine elegantly.

The décor can be used in almost any room of thehome. In the light colour range, 'Pera Padua' surprisesby its filigree lightness.

“The décor gives furniturefronts and bodies anunobtrusive, modern feel.”

The 'Cimba Oak' décor confidently shows theimperfections of its saw-cut look. Open pores, saw-cut roughness and irregular structures give thedécor a striking grain. A slight liming of the saw cutsstrengthens the 3-D effect.

'Cimba Oak' offers good combination possibilitieswith glass, plastic and stainless steel, especially inthe dark colour range.

“It's a structure that goesvery well with today's trendylarge-size furniture.”

The 'Walk the Line' oak décor radiates rough charm. The saw cuts in this décor run across the grain of thesolid wood. The surface shows fine, gentle linesdespite this roughness. The elegant effect issupported by a waxed and oiled look that brings bothlight and dark colours to the fore.

As striking furniture fronts in dark colours, 'Walkthe Line' forms an exciting contrast to smoothsurfaces or light soft upholstery.

“With cold metallic elements, this décor shows power andnaturalness.”

WARSAW

Warsaw has a dreamy feeling, natural, spiritualand homey. Tradition is cultivated, historicalassets appreciated. Brown, ochre and greentones create a warm, pleasant mood. Thestructures are modern and fresh andunaffectedly graceful. Romantic corners, thehistorical market square and horse-drawncarriages all contrast with the strikingarchitecture of the Palace of Culture.

THE WARSAW COLLECTION

Classic, light furniture woods form the basis ofthe collection. A cheerful, natural moodemerges. An open space in terms of colour andstructure that leaves plenty of room forindividual design.

Tortuga Oak

Cordoba Oak

Sheffield Oak

A strong, structured oak with smallknots. What makes it so remarkable isthe topical saw cut – a pure, raw lookwith solid-wood character.

An elegant, classic oak with discreetplanking. The balanced, calm overalleffect is enlivened with numerousdetails. Small knots, well largely-cutflowers and variegated reflections incombination with the handsome poresall characterise this authentic oakmaterial.

This new oak radiates elegance andclass with its trendy, sensitive limepores and the well balanced layout. The planks are designed in aconservative way and joinedharmoniously in favour of the finesurface. Whether in light naturalshades or strong dark and greygradations, it definitely has thatcertain something.

One of the core challenges for the industry in the years to come is the worldwidetrend towards high-value, discerning designs. As the world grows increasinglytogether both the international trends as well as the individual desires and

dreams of the customers need to be understood and taken seriously. The seven cities conceptThe impress Design Concept 2010 develops an inspiring world of colours, structures, and combinations which convince in their multitude and attractiveness. The points oforigin are the many production sites of the company: Frankfurt, Berlin, Warsaw,Barcelona, Vienna, Moscow, and Curitiba. Influences from these cities enrich thecollection and are a guarantee for an internationally-valid design statement. Anexploration of this design world awakens a desire for style and creativity.

Origine Premierfeatures a host ofsurface texturesthat perfectlycomplement thewoodgrain prints.

Polyrey’s Origine Premier offers an expansive palette with natural colour tones andwoodgrains covering all major species in design orientated effects.

12 • FURNITURE JOURNAL DESIGN AND DECORS SUPPLEMENT NOVEMBER 2010

When it comes to the laminate vs real wooddebate, Polyrey’s new Origine Premier rangehas an extremely compelling case. The 41-

strong range of wood grain laminates has harnessedthe very latest techniques in high definition printingand surface textures to produce an outstanding effect. The range of laminates combine beautiful aesthetics, colour consistency and workability in such ways thatcan arguably surpass that of natural timber.

Origine Premier has been especially developed tomirror the beauty of real wood through sophisticatedprinting techniques rather than recourse to harvestingand slicing veneers. Print accuracy not only perfectlyreplicates the graining of the timber specie but alsoguarantees colour consistency of the product acrosseach and every sheet of laminate. This dispenses withthe need for book matching veneers and selectingproduct for acceptable colour tolerances, a distinctadvantage when producing runs of furniture orshopfitting a project.

Polyrey has produced an easy reference bindershowcasing the new effects and A4 size samples areavailable on a next day delivery service from Polyrey’sSample Line.01923 [email protected]

The Origine Premier range is perfect for furniture manufacturers due to thelaminates being very flexible to work with and requiring no finishing.

Whether a design is inspired by the countryside or requires an industrial edge, OSB is beingspecified and used for wall and floor covering, sanded and treated to a smooth finish for fittedfurniture and display shelving, or as a solid base for portable garment racks and rails. CombiningOSB with raw concrete and steel and exposed functions completes industrial designs, andcombinations of OSB with glass and gloss surfaces brings warmth to stark contemporary finishes.

To professional shopfitters, 21st century ‘shopfitting’means much more than just shops. Any interior, beit retail, financial services, leisure, hotels,

restaurants, museums or travel, demands a high level ofskill and innovation, and shopfitting and interiorcontracting continues to change at a rapid pace. Smartprofessionals combine traditional skills with moderntechnology and technical expertise to meet designdemands, and when designers push boundaries, newand innovative materials are needed.

FSC certified and locally manufactured in Ireland byCoillte Panel Products, SmartPly OSB is not onlyprecision engineered and offers sustainability, strengthand performance - elements all vital to the success of anyproject - but also a unique visual aesthetic. This is beingdiscovered as a design solution for it offers a moderntake on traditional or rural concepts and is being seen inits raw form more and more often. Leading MDF brandMedite is also part of Coillte Panel Products division, andprovides a wide range of diverse FSC certified products, from Medite FR (flame retardant) to Medite Ecologique, which contains no added formaldehyde, making itperfect for particularly sensitive applications such asmuseum interiors.

The launch of Coillte Panel Products’ brand newrange of thicker Medite MDF panels has unlocked afantastic array of new applications, specifications anduses. Medite’s ongoing major programme of investmentrecently enabled the development and launch of muchthicker FSC certified and CARB 2 compliant Medite, withthe range topping out at an impressive 45mm. Themaximum thickness of Medite MDF previously availablewas 30mm, but Medite’s new technology has enabledtheir MDF panels to be manufactured thicker than everbefore, and Medite Premier is now available inthicknesses of 32, 36, 38, 40, 42 and 45mm.www.medite-europe.comwww.smartply.com

New shopfitting recentlyundertaken by FatFace, theactive lifestyle clothing andaccessories retailer, andTimberland, which offersrugged, outdoor-tested,environmentally-consciousgear, have drawn on thenatural appearance of OSB,creating interiors which reflectoutdoor environments. The

Body Shop, clothing brand H&M, and even top retailer John Lewishave also turned to OSB to create exciting, visually appealing andenvironmentally responsible fit-outs in their stores.

Australian architect Matt Gibson designed a shop interiorfor the fashion retailer Fame Agenda, in the Docklands of

Melbourne, Australia. A random and organic set of archesmerge to form a cave-like enclosure with the OSB creating

a strong visual statement, and when new functional-designdriven fashion store Magazin-Zing opened in Moscow, the

store featured OSB panels and furniture, making a freshand unusual statement.

As part of the newinterior specificationof its store in ValléeVillage in Marne-la-Vallée, France, CaféCoton, who sell top-of-the-range shirtsand accessories formen, chose FSCcertified Medite FRflame-retardant MDFfor their interiordisplay shelving andfurniture.

Further benefits

• Costly coordination of edge material, bonding agent andadhesive is no longer necessary.

• Much lower cleaning costs for the edged boards.

• Eliminates waiting times and set-up costs for colourchange.

• Significant improvement in machine ability, due to thehigh material hardness of the functional layer.

Ageing and wear marks are nowthings of the past.

The special polymer functional layer in Alpha-Tape®laser significantlyenhances the robustness and usability of the furniture. Dirt andmoisture cannot penetrate the functional layer and the heatresistance is greatly improved.

Anew, innovative edge banding isnow available from MKT and theirUK representative and distributor

Decoredge Ltd. Alpha-Tape®laser hasbeen specially developed for the laseredging process. Based on theenvironmentally safe Alpha-Tape®PPedging, it features a special functionallayer that eliminates the need forstandard bonding agents or adhesives inthe processing stages. The functionallayer is melted by a diode, or CO2 laserbeam, directly joining it to the workpiece. Thanks to the colour matchingbetween the functional layer, the toplayer of the edge banding and the board,Alpha-Tape®laser provides an invisible, homogeneous and seamless transitionbetween edge and board.

Alpha-Tape®laser offers unrivalledaesthetics in furniture design and MKTedges in the laser-edging process arenow available for all measurements.
