When 33-year-old Andrew Davies bought his 56 sq. m. new home, it was a typical development apartment. The highly desirable location close to his job in London's Canary Wharf and the beautiful view of the river, however, made Andrew fall in love with the place. 'When I bought the flat, it had no soul or character. The magnificent view made up for the plain and somewhat aged space, but I was soon to realise that it would be a challenge to furnish it. I had exhausted a number of ideas and was really struggling with the limited space and difficult angles of

the living room, which also had to include a dining area.'

Andrew Davies contacted BoConcept in Notting Hill and arranged for an on-site visit from Anna Porada: 'It was clear to me that the interior design plan had to make the most of the amazing view. It makes the place seem bigger. We discussed his preferences for style and we went through my colour and fabric samples. Andrew also showed me examples from magazines that gave me a good idea of his expectations.'

With measurements of the flat and lots of input, Anna started to make her proposal using BoConcept's interior decorating software Furnish. Two days later, Andrew came into the store to discuss the proposals, and changes were made on screen so he could easily visualise the final result. As Anna explains, 'Rather than working around the angles, I tried to take advantage of them. A corner sofa would complement them and at the same time give a direct, relaxing view of the river. The glass coffee table and the low TV unit made the room seem more spacious.

No matter if it is a whole room or just a single piece of furniture, BoConcept interior decorators around the world can help customers with their interior challenges. When professional flower artist Makoto Azuma and his wife bought their new home in Tokyo, they needed to decorate the whole flat. While Makoto Azuma has a strong passion and professional interest for beautiful design, this was a daunting and very time-consuming task. 'I am very aware of what is going on, and I know what kind of style I want. The challenge is finding the time, when you also have a busy career.'

During their search for new furnishings, they visited one of the BoConcept stores in Tokyo. 'We liked the look of the furniture, and when we heard about the interior decoration service, we quickly booked a home visit.' Shortly after, BoConcept interior decorator Ayumi Kita came to their new home. 'Having measured the rooms, we sat down and talked about their preferences for style, colours and functionalities. They both prefer black and wanted a minimalist, monochrome base. With the hectic pace of Tokyo just outside, they wanted a calm retreat where they were able to relax and find new energy.'

While Ayumi Kita worked on the drawings for the flat, she was a bit concerned about the choice of monochrome black. 'It can easily be too boring and it can easily take over the room, especially when it comes to small rooms. So we worked with light pieces of storage and instead of a whole wall unit, shelves for one corner of the home office created a light, architectural detail. Instead of colours, curvy shapes on the tables added a dynamic contrast to the smooth surfaces of the storage units. When I presented the drawings, I had included colour samples and also proposals for decoration. They have

Choose between different materials and colours. Depending on your existing interior and what you want, choose a colour that contrasts or compliments. There are four different front designs. One-panel glass fronts, combinations with veneer and glassl acrylic in the 3 or 5-panel fronts and a 3-panel front with profile edging in aluminium or black aluminium.

Good things last even longer when you take care of them.

Wood and veneer• Wood and veneer are affected by light. For the first 6–8 weeks,

when the item is first absorbing the surrounding light, keep the surfaces clear of any objects to avoid permanent marks and circles. At first, new furniture will also need time to absorb light before it will match the tone of your existing furniture

• Water is only to be used in small doses and only in the form of a damp cloth. After wiping, always use a dry cloth

• Wood and veneer are very sensitive to liquids. Wipe up spilled liquids immediately

• Always try to remove stains with the mildest cleaning materials. A suitable soap solution is made from ¼ dl soap powder to 1 litre of warm water

Upholstery in general• If possible, switch the seat and back cushions on a regular basis

to extend the life of your cushions and to ensure even wear over the years

• Cushions with a filling of foaml feathers or fibre should be shaken regularly to ensure form stability

• Make sure the legs are fitted tightly to the sofa and check them on a regular basis

• If you need to move your sofa or chair, lift it to avoid scratching the floor, or damaging its legs or frame

Furniture textiles• Protect fabric from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading• Ordinary cleaning: Vacuum frequently and use the BoConcept

Textile Cleaner for general cleaning• Treat your fabrics with the BoConcept Textile Protection to

prevent stains and dirt from penetrating the textile fibres before use and after use the BoConcept Textile Cleaner

• Remove stains by using the BoConcept Spot Remover Kit• BoConcept stain-cleaning materials should only be used after they

have been tested on a small, less noticeable area • Removable covers can be dry-cleaned

Leather• Protect leather from direct sunlight and sources of heat to prevent

colour fading• For general cleaning only use a dry soft cloth• If necessary, wipe or lightly rub the whole surface with a clean,

soft cloth wrung in soapy water• If vacuum cleaning, use a soft brush nozzle to avoid scratching

the surface• Use the BoConcept Leather Cleaner for cleaning the sofal chair 2–3

times a year• Use the BoConcept Leather Protector before you start using

your new piece of furniture and after use the BoConcept Leather Cleaner

Mattresses• Turn your mattress regularly to maintain its form and extend the

life of your mattress• Leave the bed uncovered as much as possible and always place

the mattress on slats and not a solid base. This lets the air circulate and airs the mattress

• Try to remove spills by dabbing the mattress with a simple mix of water and washing up liquid. Leave the mattress uncovered to air

Duvets and pillows• Air your pillows and duvets regularly. Before covering your bed

with a bed cover leave the duvets and pillows uncovered to air for a while

• Wash the duvet in a washing machine with a minimum capacity of 5 kg and preferably 7 kg. Use a non-biological wooll down detergent. Use half the amount of detergent that you would use for a normal wash. Wash on 60° C delicates programme and select the gentlest spin

• Always dry in tumble dryer. A couple of tennis balls in the tumble dryer will make the drying process more efficient

Ensuring the highest quality in all of our products has always been a natural part of our concept. This has led us to apply a quality assurance system based on the ISO 9000 standard, and most of our products and accessories meet European and international standards. Our materials are carefully selected not only for their quality, but also for their influence on the environment.

Wood furnitureYou will find veneer surfaces on most of our board furniture, such as wall systems, tables and bed frames. Veneer is just like wood – a natural material – and variations in the grain must be expected. This is what makes each piece of wood furniture unique.

GlassMost of our glass tabletops are made of tempered glass for the safety of our customers. The coloured glass plates are colour consistent. All edges are finished to a high standard.

Metal partsThe majority of our metal parts are made from the highest quality metal, keeping any impurities to the lowest level. This makes it easier to work with and leaves a smooth surface with minimum risk of rust.

Upholstered furnitureWe are dedicated to ensuring that every single piece of our furniture provides you with perfect sitting comfort. That's why we primarily use high resilient foam in our seat cushions. High resilient foam is very structurally stable, ensuring optimum comfort and a long lifetime. Our back cushions are channel sewn so that they are durable and retain their shape. Expect

a 'breaking in' period for your new sofa. The cushion fillings need time and use to stabilise; so your cushions will feel smooth and comfortable.

The selection and application of hardwearing materials, which contribute to the lifetime of our products, is a key criterion for us. As is the widespread use of hard woods, especially where strength and stability are required. Our products are upholstered with high quality foam that ensures both soft and rounded edges and corners, and means that our cover fabrics wear less and last longer.

Leathers and fabricsWe select our leather and fabrics based on the design and function of the individual products they are to be used for. We guarantee no colour difference between different pieces of furniture when commissioned as one order. Our only requirement is that all the pieces of furniture are ordered at the same time.

All leathers and fabrics will stretch during use. To achieve the best comfort covers cannot fit too tightly. Therefore, some creasing may occur, but this adds character to the sofa or chair.

We have 5 leather types available:Rio, Bahia and Salto leathers are made from Buffalo- (Rio) or cowhides (Bahia and Salto) that have been treated to provide a consistent structure and provide protection against spotting and stains. All three leathers are soft and comfortable, yet hardwearing. Easy to maintain, they retain their appearance over a long period of time. Bahia and Rio leather is especially recommended for homes with children and animals. Salto is a 1,2 mm thick leather that also makes it very suitable for big, soft surfaces that leaves a very exclusive expression.

Estoril leather is made from cowhide, and is known for its characteristic, exclusive feel and natural grain. Soft and flexible, Estoril leather is classified as high-quality semi-aniline leather that ensures maximum sitting comfort. Through use, Estoril leather will receive a beautiful patina that adds character to the product.

Salvador is a top grain leather and classified as an aniline leather. The highest quality part of the hide is used for aniline leather. The natural softness of leather is preserved to ensure exclusive seating comfort. Natural markings will be visible adding character to the material.

Our wide range of fabrics has been chosen with the utmost care to ensure the best possible combination of utility and strength. All our furniture fabrics are tested at internationally recognised and accredited institutions.

EnvironmentOur ambition is to manufacture products with as little impact on the environment as possible. We continually strive to make environmental improvements in our production processes, and we have many positive results to document our efforts, such as:• Our furniture lacquers are mainly UV-

based, which means we have reduced the use of organic solvents significantly

• All our board furniture is within the E1 norm for formaldehyde emission
