Archadeck Design Excellence Award

GRAND PRIZE WINNERRob Mitchell - Archadeck of Columbus

This national design contest winning project was created by Rob Mitchell and his team from Archadeck of Columbus.

Located in the Ballantrae subdivision of Dublin, Ohio, this gorgeous space is a combination of multiple materials that blend seemlessly together to form an absolutely stunning space. With a combination of hardscapes, decking, pergola and fire pit, this project is a picture perfect result of how great design incorporates form and function.

While Archadeck of Columbus can take credit for the execution, we can’t take credit for the selection of the materials. The homeowners devoted all of the time necessary to look at hundreds (maybe thousands) of pavers and stones and made their own selections for the hardscapes. A variety of different materials went into this project, and yet it all comes together as a unified design in a splendid pattern of neutral white, black and grays — simply stunning!

The clients wanted an open and expansive outdoor living design with multiple seating areas because they entertain frequently. On the deck, they have ample space for their dining table that seats eight, and the deck also features a high counter or bar overlooking the patio with bar stool seating for six. The large patio also offers room to set up additional tables or comfortable seating arrangements.

The deck area is high-aesthetic and low-maintenance as it was built using composite decking from the TimberTech PRO Legacy Collection. Legacy Collection’s decking boards are capped on all four sides to provide complete protection against mold, mildew, moisture damage, stains, scratches and fading.

The homeowners devoted all of the time necessary to look at hundreds (maybe thousands) of pavers.

Almost all of the hardscapes used in this project came from Oberfield’s. The patio field features pavers from Oberfields’ Grand Milestone Collection in a color named Timeless — which seems a fitting name for such a timeless outdoor living space design!

The design also includes two custom cedar pergolas stained them to match the decking. The pergolas are more decorative than functional as they help anchor and define the overall design.

And if that weren’t enough, this award-winning space finishes off with a unique rectangular fire pit to enjoy those longer outdoor evenings.
