Desert Dreamwalk Oracle LWB

INTRODUCTION

Desert Dreamwalk Oracle is a 50-card deck featuring photographic digital collage

images set in a desert landscape. Photos from Unsplash.com and Pixabay.com were

edited, using several apps on my iPad, to create a simple visual scene. My intention was

to create an oracle deck with keywords and images that flowed together seamlessly into

a single message or story.

My original idea for this deck was to blend the Create This Oracle Deck challenges from

2017 and 2018 together. You’ll notice that the card names and meanings relate to many

of the challenge prompts from both years. The deck is an homage to the myriorama

effect in the Oracle Dessuart, a deck I owned many years ago. Finally, the cards were

also designed as a complementary deck to another one still in progress, Oracle of the

Ancients. It’s a deck featuring an extraterrestrial or planetary themes and I wanted this

deck to complement it with a terrestrial theme.

THE CARDS

ABUNDANCE - A regal woman, wearing a fruit platter as a crown, emerges from

the desert dunes. Abundance. Fruitfulness. Fulfillment. Claiming your crown. Royalty.

An emergence.

ANCESTOR - An ancestor emerges from the sand. He wears a headdress of palm

trees, has portals for eyes, and holds a spider in his mouth. Ancestral message.

Spiritual portal. Fate weaver. Fear eater. Victory over death.

ASCEND - A ladder reaches far into the sky. Ascending. Climbing. Evolution.

Reaching the next phase. The next step. Making progress.

ATTACK - In the darkness, a man has been stabbed in the back with 4 daggers. An

attack. Feeling stabbed in the back. Rejection. Pain and suffering.

AWAKE - A man with timepieces for eyes stares ahead. Awakening. Getting “woke.”

Clarity. Be alert. Third eye.

BLESSINGS - Hands from heaven pour blessings onto the desert. Blessings. Gifts.

Pleasant experiences. Opportunities. Transformative experience. Spiritual guidance.

CAUTION - A hand reaches out to touch a prickly cactus. Sharpness. Caution. You’re

about to do something that could cause pain. Proceed at your own risk.

CREATRIX - A woman made of starlight exudes her inner light into the world.

Creativity. Self-expression. Powerful woman.

DEATH - A transforming figure juggles two skulls. An ending. Transition. Between

worlds. Shedding skin.

DEPTH - A woman dives into the sand at night. Inner depths. Shadow work. Seeking

answers within. Subconscious.

DOOR - Fingertips gently cradle a golden portal. Key. Solution. Opportunity. A portal

to another dimension.

DREAM - A figure sits atop a stack of suitcases, staring at the night sky. Daydreams.

Night dreams. Astral travel. Wishing on a star.

EMBRACE - A woman looks to the future and holds a bouquet of blooming flowers.

Embracing. The future. Confidence.

EXCHANGE - Two hands exchange hearts. Partnership. Friendship. Love. An

exchange. Give and take. Finding common ground. Agreement. Union.

GAIN - A figure sits atop a stack of British one pound coins with the edge inscription:

Decus Et Tutamen meaning “an ornament and a safeguard.” Increase. Safeguarding

possessions. Getting what you want. A position of power or influence.

GROWTH - A hand holds a tree in bloom. Growth. Personal development. Being

guided and nurtured. Support. Foundation.

HARA - A man with an elephant head exposes his hara. The center of one’s true

nature. Gut instinct. Inner strength. Sexual power. Energy medicine.

HEALING - A green person with a sunflower head and wings rises above the sand

dunes. Healing. Health concerns. Angelic assistance. Strong life force or vitality.

Recovery from illness.

HELP - A hand reaches up from the desert to catch a life preserver. Help needed. A

distress signal. Assistance.

HUMANITY - Four hands of different hues support the Earth. We’re all in this

together. Humanity. Coming together. Support. Groups.

JOY - A young man laughs and butterflies fly out of his mouth. Laughter. Joyful spirit.

Transformative words.

KING - A man wearing a crown in the desert. Important male figure. Powerful man.

Spiritual leader. Guru.

LOVE - A hand opens to accept a vessel of pink roses. An expression of love.

Compassion. Gentleness. Gratitude. Receiving or giving love.

MAGIC - A boy demonstrates his power as a magical conduit. Making magic.

Channeling. Power.

MENAGERIE - A collection of strangely colored animals are assembled inside a

suitcase. Diverse collection. Oddities. Something unusual.

MESSAGE - A bird sits on a string next to a blank note. A message or a messenger.

Unwritten. A blank slate.

METAMORPHOSIS - A woman is becoming butterflies. Transformation. Change.

Identity issues.

MONEY - A woman with pennies for eyes wears a dollar bill shirt. Financial focus.

Money. Worth. Value.

MOON - The full moon hovers over a dark desert. Heightened emotions. Shadow

energy. Completion and release. Secrets and revelations.

NUDGE - A hand flicks a hot air balloon across the desert sky. The Universe is

prompting you to do something. Lighten up. A push in the right direction. Rising above.

Gentle encouragement.

OBSTACLE - A hand reaches out in an attempt to push a large boulder away.

Obstacles. Immovable force. A lot of effort. Shield of protection.

OFFERING - A water vessel full of pink flowers sits out in the desert sun. Friendship.

A peace offering. Nourishment. Fulfillment.

PAIN - A hand opens to accept a vessel of writhing snakes. Reaching for painful

experiences. Leaving yourself open to attack or betrayal. A painful but transformational

experience. Dealing with a deceitful person.

PATIENCE - A turtle burdened with heavy rocks moves slowly through the desert.

Slow movement. Patience. Delay. Burdens.

POTENTIAL - An empty desert. Potential. Emptiness. Waiting for something to

happen. Inactivity.

PROPHECY - A set of runes lies in the sand. A golden hand statue rises from the sand.

Predictions. Divination tools. Omnipotence. Destiny or fate.

QUEEN - A woman wearing a crown in the desert. An important female. Powerful

woman. Spiritual leader. Guru.

REACH - A hand reaches up through the sand trying to catch a butterfly. Reaching.

Goal setting. Just out of reach or just within reach. Elusive.

RELEASE - A woman looks to the past and holds a bouquet of faded flowers.

Releasing. The past. Faded memories. Regret.

SENSING - A snake senses its environment as a hand reaches toward it. Awareness of

surroundings. Extrasensory perception. Friend or foe?

SUN - The sun blazes over the desert. Heat. Passion. Optimism.

SWORD - A sword is buried deep in the sand. Potential for victory. Hidden talent or

skill. Power. Force. A need to cut something out. Challenges and restrictions that bring

necessary growth, strength and change.

TEARS - A deteriorating statue appears to be crying. Tears. Loss. Deterioration.

Depletion.

TIME - A person with a clock head watches you closely. Timing concerns. Something

you’ve waited for is about to happen. Now is the time to act.

TRAVEL - A rabbit rides a hot rod car through the desert. Travel. Speed. Going places.

UNSEEN - A woman with vacant eyes peers above the dunes. Intuition. Not seeing

clearly. Stealth mode.

WARRIOR - A female with a male lion’s head, gazes across the desert. Inner strength.

Warrior archetype. Masculine-feminine integration.

IDEAS FOR USING THIS DECK

Here are a few ideas for using the deck but don’t let them limit your own creativity and

imagination.

Pull 2 cards and lay them side by side. Imagine they are part of the same scene.

What story do they tell?

This combination looks like someone feels attacked and is turning away from an

offering of love.

Pull 3 cards and lay them side by side. String the keywords together into a

sentence. What message are you being given?

This message seems pretty clear: Offering blessings of joy.

Each card contains a form of light -- either a light flare, stars or other lights

in the sky. Pull a card. What do you think the light source conveys in this card?

I imagine that the light flare coming from the peephole represents the light from an

alternate universe.

You’ll notice there are quite a few cards with disembodied hands

interacting with the scene. Pull a card. Imagine you can reach into the card and

interact with it. What would your hand be doing?

I imagine Excalibur and pulling the sword out of the stone. In this case, the sword

might represent internal power rather than external force. Also claiming one’s rightful

place.

SPREADS

This spread helps you examine the creation and destruction cycle operating within a

particular situation, place, or personal experience.

Card 1: Creation. This card shows you the beginnings of the creation, the elements

that helped it come into fruition.

Card 2: Peak. This card reveals the nature of the creation when it has reached its

growth peak and is turning toward destruction. Although, everything that is created is in

some form of destruction.

Card 3: Destruction. This card reflects how the creation is ending and the elements

helping it transition.

This is a general spread for understanding your current life experience, foundation, and

path ahead.

Card 1: Roots. This card reflects a past experience.

Card 2: Fate. This card shows patterns of fate tied directly to and emerging from the

past experience.

Card 3: Grindstone. This card represents challenges and limitations.

Card 4: Unraveller. This card reveals what is loosening its grip and falling away.

Card 5: Dreams. This card reflects possibilities, potential and expectations.

Card 6: The Way. This card signifies the path ahead, and provides guidance for the

future.

Creation-Destruction Spread for the making of the Desert Dreamwalk

Oracle

The creation of this deck was indeed a MENAGERIE or collection of diverse concepts

pulled into one. The desire to combine two sets of prompts together….to create a

homage to another deck...to make a complementary deck for another one in progress.

ASCEND is a wonderful visual for the peak of the deck creation phase. I would say that

this was one of the most difficult decks I’ve created artistically based on my limited

digital collage skills so it was a difficult climb at times. But I feel like towards the middle

of creating it I was able to transcend my challenges.

What a fabulous destruction card -- GROWTH! As I complete the last aspects of the

creation of the deck -- this brief guide -- it’s now time for the oracle to shine and grow in

someone else’s hands as a personal development tool.

Path of the Dreamer Spread

The seeker has been running her business for 2 years and wonders about the future of it.

The reading shows that her business was destined to be (PROPHECY) and she was given

a nudge from the Universe (NUDGE) to get things in motion. Her main challenge is

staying on top of her finances and maintaining her profits or financial gains (GAIN).

What’s loosening its grip are obstacles (OBSTACLE) that appeared to be in the way.

There’s a powerful or important man (KING) in the place of potential or possibilities.

This might show the influence of her landlord. TIME represents the way forward and

says there’s something that she’s waited for that’s about to happen and now is the time

to act on it.
