07. above: Cutting lose of remaining glue rest at the inside of the frame.

08. above: Remove gently the remaining rests with a soft tassel..

09. above: We’re gone use a Stanley knife. First break a piece of the breaking knife. Where the pencil points at there’s a sharp piece metal. We’re gone remove this.

10. above: Draw the sharp metal part against sandpaper above a little old plank or an old board.

11. above: Make during drawing a upwards movement, so that the sharp metal part becomes smoothly rounded..

12. above: Gently moisten the left over rotten foam with a soft little tassel and methylated spirits If you wet by accident the cone, than this isn’t a great problem. Just wait till the cone is dry before you glue the new surround (picture 19) .

13. above: Now scrape gently the rotten foam on the cone away with the sloping and not sharp part of the Stanley knife. The cone can be moistly and not strong. Therefore use the sandwich knife pressure against the Stanley knife.

14 above: Through working at the other side, some rotten foam can sometimes be removed. Be gently!!

15. above: My experience is that methylated spirits doesn’t damages the cone, although at own risk: wipe with a moistened piece of cloth the cone clean. 17. below: draw a line around the template 18. right: drawn line

19. above: glue just over the line. 20. above: finished

21. above: Wait till the glue is for 1/3 part clear and 2/3 still white. Put the surround on the right place and press it carefully. Then press the surround some firm with a blunt knife as counterforce (13).

22. above: There can be some glue coming out between surround and cone. Copyright © 2004 F.E. Buist www.audiofriends.nl

23. left: Remove the glue with a small screwdriver.

24. below: Press the surround tight with short turning movement.

26: below: Check if the surround is glued well on the cone. : If necessary, glue the connection. You can use a piece of bended massive isolation cable 2,5mm²

27. above: Unwind the roll to a diameter of 99mm. 28. above: Draw a line on the roll about 5,5mm. from the edge.

29. above: Cut the inner carton. (at own risk!) 30. above: Remove the inner side.

31. left: Remove the tape till the inner diameter is about 98mm.

32: above: Check if the template fits. The inner diameter must be just outside the roll.

33. above: Lift the surround. Glue with the other hand the surround at the side below with a rather thick layer of glue. When you’re ready with gluing, the glue still need to be white everywhere.

36: left: Place immediately after that with the tape, while you centre the cone with two thumbs. Push with one thumb, than with the other thumb the cone, so that the cone comes out of balance. Under the cone is a cylinder, named the voice coil. You can hear the voice coil grate against the magnet. The cone is well centred when the thumb has to give separately the same power to let the voice coil grate. Copyright © 2004 F.E. Buist www.audiofriends.nl

38. above: check again, just like with number. 45.

37. above: If the cone is not well centred, you can move the cone from the frame by moving the tape. Watch out for pushing together the roll of the surround. If you want to move the surround from the frame, you need to push on the tape. If the cone by pushing with the left thumb grates, the surrounds need to be moved a little to the right.

35: above: almost finished 34: above: close-up

41. complete left: Don’t let the glue dry completely, otherwise the tape might not get lose. After about 30-90 minutes (check if the glue is about 1/3 colourless) get the tape off. Let the speaker dry till the glue is completely dry and colourless (±24hours). 42. left: finished!

39. below: Do the centring crosswise. Do the method again, till the cone is centred. The cone has to run freely.

40. below: Keep pressure on the tape, when you turn around the speaker on the tape, to keep the surround in place.

Some tips: 1. The units best can be tested on the signals 20 Hertz, 20-500 Hertz and 20 – 20000 Hertz. You can get this signal on our website www.audiofriends.eu. Watch out with test signals!! The units are 1 ohm, that’s a very difficult load for the amplifier. You can put 4 in serial. 2. Problems during testing. Problems beneath are rare, but with this special unit, and 16 or 18 pieces something can go wrong. If the test gives a strange sound beneath the original sweap, most times the surround isn’t glued well. Push gently on the surround around the unit, and notice where the strange sound goes softer. Then look if you can find the not glued section. Most times it’s a place on the section surround on frame were the problem is. Take a little screwdriver and gently pull the surround on the found place lose. Then glue is again with a tassel. If the 20 Herts. test gives a grating sound, most times the cone is not well centred. Try to push gently the cone inside an hear if it grates. If the cone is not well centred, loosen the surround on the frame again and centre again. (see picture 38) 3. Watch the wires from terminal to cone. They sometimes slam against the cone, and that gives a irritating sound. Bend them back, if they give a problem. 4. If you have a problem, pleas mail us. 5. Following the description is at own risk. 6. Get your Bose manuals from www.audiofriends.nl/bose 7. Copyright © 2004 F.E. Buist www.audiofriends.nl
