give a marriage date of about 1668 for Darby Daniel and Ann Cary, but I would objectivelyhave to suggest that Darby may have never married Ann Cary. (What evidence did Worth S.Ray have?). If Darby Daniel married two women, Ann Harrison Copeland and Ann Cary, the questionarises about the order of the marriages. If his son with Ann Harrison Copeland, SamuelDaniel, et al., was born in the 1650's then Darby married her first. This being true and if hemarried Ann Cary about 1668, why was he a witness to the will of Henry Copeland of 1693(apparently still involved in the affairs of Harrison/Copeland)? He does NOT mention a marriage to Ann Cary. Thecompiler has only two records of this Darby Daniel. They are where Darby had his son JamesDaniel baptized in Charles Parish, York County, VA on April 6, 1669, and where he witnessedHenry Copeland's will. He was reported in 1669 as of "Denbergh" Parish. Based on what we already know about this family, James Daniel, the son of Darby Daniel, didmarry Ann Parker. Your compiler can accept that James was not the first born of Darby andAnn Harrison/Copeland; however, if he was born in 1669, James may have been the son ofAnn Cary. One record states that Darby Daniel married Ann Harrison/Copeland in 1668 (thesame date he is shown to have married Ann Cary), but that marriage date was more likely1650. [From a certified transcript of the record.] After specific distribution of certain house servants by name, he divides his estate equallybetween his three surviving daughters, Anne Randolph, Mary Page and Betty Cary, and theeldest sons of his deceased daughters Jane Randolph and Sarah Boiling, namely: ArchibaldCary Randolph and Archibald Cary Bolling, Including the following specific devises of lands tobe charged against the respective shares, viz: To son-in-law Archibald Bolling and his [second] wife Jane (Randolph, dau. of RichardRandolph], the plantation known as Red Oak, whereon they reside, containing 1,000 acres onMountain Creek of Willis River, in Buckingham County, with remainder to grandson ArchibaldCary Bolling [son of his daughter Sarah Bolling, deceased], who is also to have 1,000 acresadditional, adjoining Red Oak. To son-in-law Carter Page and Mary [Cary] his wife, the plantation containing 2,700 acres onHatchers Creek and Horn Quarter road, in Buckingham County, with remainder to theirchildren. By the codicils the specific devises of land were modified so as to provide, in certaincontingencies, for sale and reinvestment, the share of the youngest daughter, Betty, bringreduced.
