events. P lease RS VP the Krauser’s to let them know you will be there. We would like to have as many folks as possible to brainstorm ideas for the upcoming year. We had some terri fic events last year and great turnouts. I per-sonally would like to see a rally or two, some day trips maybe over to Auburn to visit the museums, or maybe over to Breitenbach Winery in Dover, Ohio. These are all easy day trips that I think everyone would truly enjoy and it’s a great excuse to get the car out for a little exercise.

I would like to extend a warm thank you to Janet Sternfeld, our web designer and Tom Isley, our newsletter editor for taking the time and patience to get the news-letter, along with past issues on the website. For those of you who do not routinely check the website, I would encourage you to make use of this resource especially as we get more content on the site such as the goody store, sponsors and the calendar of events. The web address for those of you who have not been on in a while is http://mm.pca.org.

We met in December at El Camino Real for an end of the year party where almost 30 members showed up to have a great evening. It was a chance to share a night with

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year and a nice holiday season. Can you believe we are already into 2009? Where does the time go? I want to thank all of the officers and chairs for a job well done during the 2008

season. We had many fun events at our members’ homes, got to see a wonderful collection of cars up at Ken Lingenfelter’s facility, had an outstanding D.E. event at Mid Ohio, and traveled in a caravan of fi fteen P-cars down to Porsches to Oxford. Our club has been blessed with some very dedicated and wonderful people & I have been privileged to now call them my friends.

Well I decided as the new incom-ing president to put my small mark on the Ruckspeigel and change the column name to “Schnell Fahr-spur”, which roughly translates into “Fast Lane”. Sarah & I have the opportunity of going over to Germany, Switzerland and Austria later this year and I thought it would be fun to learn a new lan-guage. I ordered the Rosetta Stone learning tapes and we have begun learning German.

We will be meeting on January 18, 2009 at Chris & Jeanne Krauser’s home to plan our 2009 itinerary of

As I’m sitting here at my desk, extremely busy, I find mysel f la-menting the fact that summer is over and it’s time to put the Box-ster away for its long winter nap.

(I started this letter in October and here I am finishing in December? Please excuse me for my rambling)

October: Fall has some of the Best top-down weather of the year, but not today. Today it’s going up to the mid 50’s and chance of rain and the weather report for the rest of the week is about the same. So… here I sit, thinking about all the great trips the Boxster and I took this year. In May, I drove to Augusta, Michigan for a 3 day golf outing. We drove to St. Cloud, Minnesota in June, 740 miles one way. I now know my Boxster is waterproof! We went to Houghton Lake, Michigan, 240 miles north (3 times). We took it White Water Rafting on the New River in West Virginia. Have you ever driven over or rafted under the New River Bridge? It’s the second highest bridge in the USA. And of course we can’t forget: P2O in July. Great time, great weather and great people. Go to the “ Porsches to Oxford” web site and click on Past Events at the top, then 2008 slideshow.

A few years ago I was actually thinking of selling it! What sense does it make having a car like this parked in the garage? Thank

goodness a cooler head prevailed, my lovely wife Deb wouldn’t let me sell. She said: “ You can’t drive it if you don’t own it.” Words of wisdom! Now, as winter is in full bloom, I wish we had driven more, seen more and as spring is far away, had the top down more often.

November: Finally, I washed, waxed, put the desiccant bag (for moisture con-trol) on the floor mat, hooked up the battery maintainer, pumped up the tires to 60 psi, rolled it onto carpet pieces and covered her up for the winter. I learned long ago about Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer. Any-time I think I won’t be driving for a while, I add it to the gas tank.

Loose thoughts and ramblings: In 2005 we had a new garage built. It took me about two years of plan-ning to design it just the way I wanted. I then took the design to local builders and asked them to quote it. NOT ONE WANTED TO give me a price for a 32’ by

52’ two story garage! One day much later, Deb and I were driving down the street and saw the Amish building a pole barn. There must have been 10 of them crawling all over it! We stopped, talked to Mr. Miller, and about 3 days later, I had my quote. That was in May of 2005.

As you’ve guessed, I now have my “Taj MaGarage”, “ Garage Ma-Hal ”, “Pete’s Garage”, “ Man Room”, etc… 3600 square feet (1600 per floor) of boy toy space! The Amish built the structure; however, Deb and I’ve done every-

(Continued from page 7) thing else. From the “U-Coat it” floor to the fiberglass insulation, we did it. Oh, by the way, it may never be completed. When I finish the first floor I’ll move up stairs. It’s given me more pleasure (and bruises) than you can imagine.

As car guys and girls I wish for you all a place of joy and content-ment this Holiday Season.

Deb and I wish everyone a Fantas-tic New Year.

MVR Members,

After many years as Membership Chairman, Jack Mechel is stepping down and I will be taking his place. I want to thank Jack for his hard work and service over the years. The role of the Membership chairman is to assist the region in obtaining new members, assist the new members in becoming ac-quainted with the club, and to maintain the membership records for the region. Our club has about 130 members, and in 2008 about 70 members participated in at least one event. While that is great par-ticipation for a club our size, it also

means that about 60 members did not participate in a single event. While we will work to con-tinue growing our region through new members, we will also work at determining what we can do to increase participation of our pre-sent members.

Please watch over the next few months for an enhanced “Members” page on our web site, a Members Profile section and in the newsletter a “ Member of the Month” section.

Richard Brown — Membership Chairman

Stuttgart. In the new Porsche Mu-seum the final preparations are made for the opening on Saturday, 31 January 2009. At last, now that the scaffolding has been removed, it is possible to see to the full ex-tent the bold architecture of the building at the head office prem-ises of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG in Zuffenhausen: The 5,600 square metres of exhibition space are sup-ported on just three so-called cores of reinforced concrete – hence just seeming to hover in space. Inside the building the majority of ap-proximately 80 exhibits are already in place. In the other areas of the new build-ing – amongst them the museum workshops, the museum shop, the Porsche archive, an exclusive res-taurant, a bistro and the capacious event areas – a team of experts are

busy putting the finishing touches. Three days after the ceremonial opening, which takes place on Wednesday, the 28 January 2009, the doors of the new Porsche Mu-seum will be flung open to wel-come the first visitors. On a daily basis, apart from Mondays, the exhibition can be viewed for an admission price of eight Euros (reduced price: four Euros). Chil-dren up to the age of 14 get free admission when accompanied by an adult. The restaurant on the second floor – which has both a view through the glass facade onto the Porsche-platz as well as through the glass partition into the exhibition itself – has its own separate entrance and is also open at hours different from those of the museum itself.

….the Checkered Flag!….the Checkered Flag!….the Checkered Flag!….the Checkered Flag!

The cover says it all. I think at this point in the year we are all waiting for the chance to get back on the road in the Porsche.

Thanks to Janet and prodding from oth-ers, we now have the Der RÜCK-SPIEGEL available on the MVR web site. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Pete MacDonald has provided an-other interesting article on his ex-periences with Porsche ownership.

Our annual planning meeting is coming up soon. The Krauser’s will be hosting it again this year. Be sure to be there to help with setting up the events for this year. I know that the Social Chairs are looking for your input.

Flash your headlights at a fellow Porsche owner on the road!! Keep the kindred spirit alive!!

friends and to see Bob Cryan off for one last time. We will miss Bob’s smile and genuine friend-ship. I’m sure that he is experienc-ing the opportunity of a li fetime as the Assistant Provost of an all women’s university in Dubai. Charlotte & Bob will be missed by all of us, but we understand that these types of opportunities don’t come along often.

Hopefully everyone got their “babies” put away for the season. I finally got the Turbo put away for the winter last week. It always seems like there’s something else to do that takes precedence. The car is under cover and on trickle charge for the cold weather. Hope-fully Old Man Winter doesn’t last too long. I purchased a small open trailer so that I can take advantage of a few more D.E.’s this year, maybe at Grattan Raceway or Wat-kins Glen. If anyone else would like to get an additional event in this year, let me know.

On the business side of things, I would ask that everyone try to “ reach out” to those members that have not traditionally been active to see of we can get them coming to some of the social events. We need to keep the club viable in both attracting new members and keeping the existing members in-terested in social events. I wel-come any feedback or ideas that the members have.

Keep the Porsche “ blink” alive!
