Coaches Mark Ardizzone - Head Coach

Mark Ardizzone begins his 17th season as the head coach of the DePaul women’s tennis program in 2012-13. The winningest coach in the program’s his-tory, Ardizzone has established himself as mentor both on and off the court and continues to lead his squads to the next level. When Ardizzone took the DePaul job in 1995, he had a list of goals for the program and number one was for his team to reach the NCAA Tournament. In 2010, that goal became a reality when the Blue Demons were chosen for an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship. After spending most of the season

ranked in the top 30 in the ITA Team rankings, the Blue Demons reached a program-high No. 21 on March 30 and finished their historic 2009-10 season ranked No. 34.As a player, Mark was a two-year captain at Northwest Missouri State University, where he was nationally ranked in both singles and doubles. Off the court, he was an Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award winner and captured numerous schol-arships. Prior to playing at NWMS, Ardizzone played two seasons at the College of DuPage.Katarina Milinkovic - Assistant Coach

Former Blue Demon standout and All-Conference performer Katarina Milinkovic joined DePaul’s women’s tennis staff as an assistant coach in November of 2011 after serving as an undergraduate assistant from Aug.-Nov. 2011.Milinkovic assists head women’s tennis coach Mark Ardizzone in all aspects of the Blue Demon program. She is involved in player development both on the court and in the classroom.Milinkovic finished her playing career in 2011 as a three-time All-BIG EAST Conference performer. Milinkovic tallied a 94-42 singles record including a 17-6

mark in the No. 1 spot as a senior. She also posted a 76-51 record in doubles including a career-best 23 doubles wins in 2011.

Cutura put together 3-0 weekend at the top spot for No. 71 Blue Demons

After a 3-0 weekend at number one singles, DePaul women’s tennis fresh-man Matea Cutura was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by the league office on February 5th.

The award was the first of Cutura’s young career as the Zagreb, Croatia-native continues a standout rookie season for the No. 71 Blue Demons.

This past weekend, playing in the top spot in three matches, Cutura helped the Blue Demons to three straight wins and lost just four sets in singles play. She is now 14-3 overall in singles play -- with three wins against nationally-ranked opponents -- and boasts a 10-6 doubles record.

On February 1st, Cutura defeated Milwaukee’s Maddy Soule 6-1, 6-0 before a Saturday sweep (6-0, 6-0) of Butler’s Stephanie McGloughlin. On February 3rd, Cutura capped the weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eastern Michigan’s Nino Mebuke.

On the doubles side, Cutura paired with junior Kelsey Lawson on an undefeated weekend. The pair produced a combined score of 24-6, defeating three different duos by scores of 8-0, 8-4 and 8-2.

Next up for the Blue Demons will be a home match against IPFW on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Lake-shore Sport & Fitness. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.

Matea Cutura is 14-3 overall with three ranked wins in her first season of collegiate tennis.

Our weekly feature “Behind the Bricks” allows DePaul letterwinners a chance to tell the DePaul community a little bit about themselves, a brief reflection on their time as a Blue Demon student-athlete and where they have gone since stepping off the court, field or diamond.NAME: Dunja Antunovic SPORT: Women’s TennisYEARS PARTICIPATED: 2005-2009

What does being a DePaul Letterwinner mean to you?It means a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose. DePaul helped me find my mission and in my years there I daresay I found my way of service. Why did you choose DePaul?I knew a few women who were already on the team. Bojana, my best friend, came a year before I did to play for DePaul, along with Bea Csordas whom I knew from tournaments in Hungary. I also played against Anja Mihaldinec prior to com-ing to DePaul. Most importantly, Mark Ardizzone showed a strong concern for his players’ well-being and I knew he would contribute to my development not only off the court but also on the court. What was your favorite memory while at DePaul?Ah there are way too many. Singing silly songs with Bea in U-Hall definitely would qualify, reaching the finals in doubles with Kirsten Gambrell, cheering for our women’s basketball team, ... If I had to pick one it would be beating Syracuse at the Conference tournament in Florida. It was emotional and intense. We played for each other and I do not remember us feeling a stronger desire to win than we did in that match. What did receiving a scholarship from DePaul mean to you?DePaul gave me what I was dreaming of since childhood: the opportunity to study in English. At the same time I was also able to continue playing, which would have been extremely difficult had I gone to college in Hungary. What was your funniest memory at DePaul? Getting yelled at by Jill Hollembeak for being late for LifeSkills. If you know Jill, you appreciate just how funny that sentence sounds. It was also memorable not only because Jill became a major source of motivation for me (and remains to this day) but that very LifeSkills session ended up encompassing one of the most influential moments of my DePaul career. Jill told us “You don’t want to be average. Always strive to be above average.” To this day I think of that lesson and I am inspired by Jill’s words to do better, set my goals higher and work harder. What advice would you give to a current or future student-athlete?Take a moment to look around and realize just how blessed you are to be at DePaul. If you really play attention, you will be overwhelmed by the love around you. I heard Jeanne (Lenti Ponsetto) once say, “at DePaul, you will have a shoulder to lean on when times get tough.” Notice you have that shoulder, but never take it for granted.

What does being a DePaul Letterwinner mean to you?Being a letterwinner means a lot because it reminds me of the great years I have spent being a part of DePaul family and also brings me closer to the Blue Demon community. Why did you choose DePaul?I chose DePaul because its mission, values and education were a perfect fit for me. I wanted a school that supports diversity, val-ues students and cares about their education. DePaul made me feel welcome although I was 5,000 miles apart from my family. The city of Chicago is an amazing city to live in, and DePaul Athletics, a wonderful environment to develop both athletic and academic skills. DePaul overall was a fulfillment of all my expectations. What was your favorite memory while at DePaul? My favorite memory while at DePaul was 2009 when our tennis team made the NCAA tournament for the first time in DePaul’s history. Knowing we brought our team and DePaul to a national level and established a big name in the Big East was unforgettable. Once my teammate won the last deciding point in that BIG EAST Semifinal against the USF, we knew we had it; we have made the NCAA Championship! And the best thing of all is that we did it as a team, for each other, for the coaches and for DePaul. The happiness and joy on my teammates’ and coaches’ faces will forever be in my heart, along with all the tears, hugs and singing as we celebrated the victory. I am so proud of what we have done that year and I will always remember it.What did receiving a scholarship from DePaul mean to you?Receiving a scholarship from DePaul was one of the greatest achievements I have accomplished. Being considered a candidate for such a meaningful place on the team made me feel very special and also imposed a little bit of pressure. I wanted to justify everything DePaul invested in me. This scholarship did not only enable me to grow as an athlete but also as a scholar and individual. With-out it, I would not have been what I am today. I am truly grateful to everyone who believed I belong to the Blue Demon family.Brief Summary of your life from graduation till now:My former teammate Dunja always used to say, “once a Demon, always a Demon”. And here I am, DePaul Women’s Tennis graduate assistant coach. Still part of DePaul Athletics building up my career, education and coaching skills. Another experience for which I thank DePaul. What advice would you give to a current or future student-athlete?Enjoy every single moment of learning, competing and representing DePaul. Remember who you are, where you came from and realize who you started becoming as you became a Blue Demon. That experience will always follow you wherever you go because of its uniqueness.
