YOGA SESSION ON INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 21/06/2018
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015,
following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is
a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India. The Indian Prime
Minister, Narendra Modi, in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is
the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in
many parts of the world.
The first International Day of Yoga created a record for the largest yoga class, and another
for the largest number of participating nationalities.
The Day has been criticised in India as a waste of money, and by religious groups as an
attempt by India to promote Hinduism through yoga.
As part of this mission Department of Management Studies organized a yoga session on

REPORT ON BLOOD DONORS DAY CELEBRATION
PROGRAMME 14/06/2018
Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor
Day (WBDD). The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for
safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving
gifts of blood.
World Blood Donor Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by
the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World
Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco
Day, World Hepatitis Day, and World AIDS Day.
Transfusion of blood and blood products helps and save millions of lives every year. It can
help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality
of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential, life-
saving role in maternal and perinatal care. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood
products can help reduce rates of death and disability due to severe bleeding during
delivery and after childbirth.
As part of this mission Department of Management Studies conducted a procession with
pluck cards throughout the campus to pass on the information of how important is donating
blood. The event was conducted on 14th of June 2018 at St. Mary’s College, Thrissur. Total
of 65 students participated in the programme from 2nd year and 3rd year BBA classes.

heart fully. And look forward for such chances in future.
KARGIL REMEMBRANCE DAY CELEBRATIONS 31/07/2018
Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the successful Operation Vijay, is celebrated in India on
26 July. On this date in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which
had been lost to Pakistan. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26
July and resulted in loss of life on both the sides. The war ended with India regaining
control of all the previously held territory, hence re-establishing the status quo ante
bellum. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil
War's Heroes. This day is celebrated in the Kargil–Dras sector and the national capital New
Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti
at India Gate every year.[2] Functions are also organized all over the country to
commemorate the contributions of the armed forces.

Panchayath. It is an island in the Adat Panchayath. It is surrounded by paddy fields (Puncha
paadam) and hence the area was very badly affected. All the house hold was evacuated.
The team from St Mary’s college cleaned all the houses with cleaning lotions and detol.
The wells were chlorinated. Personal hygiene awareness classes were also given.
TEACHER’S DAY REPORT 05/09/2018
A teacher (also called a school teacher or, in some contexts, an educator) is a person who
helps students to acquire knowledge, competence or virtue.
Informally the role of teacher may be taken on by anyone (e.g. when showing a colleague
how to perform a specific task). In some countries, teaching young people of school age
may be carried out in an informal setting, such as within the family (homeschooling), rather
than in a formal setting such as a school or college. Some other professions may involve a
significant amount of teaching (e.g. youth worker, pastor).
In most countries, formal teaching of students is usually carried out by paid professional
teachers. This article focuses on those who are employed, as their main role, to teach others
in a formal education context, such as at a school or other place of initial formal education
or training.
Department of Management studies conducted Teachers Day on 5th September 2018. All
the teachers were fondly invited with roses and there was teacher’s day message from
Principal. Appreciation certificates were given away after that. There was also experience
sharing by faculty Dr Binu K, non-teaching faculty Ms. Leena and student Miss Gladwino.
They shared their experiences during their serving period in the relief camps, which was
very tearful. The function was indeed a rare heart touching experience for the campus. It
could refresh the human-hood of the students who were present there

AWARNESS ON WATER BORNE DISEASES PROGRAM
The term waterborne disease is reserved largely for infections that predominantly are
transmitted through contact with or consumption of infected water. Trivially, many
infections may be transmitted by microbes or parasites that accidentally, possibly as a result
of exceptional circumstances, have entered the water, but the fact that there might be an
occasional freak infection need not mean that it is useful to categorise the resulting disease
as "waterborne". Nor is it common practice to refer to diseases such as malaria as
"waterborne" just because mosquitoes have aquatic phases in their life cycles, or because
treating the water they inhabit happens to be an effective strategy in control of the
mosquitoes that are the vectors.
Use good environmental management. Practice good personal hygiene. Take food safety
precautions to learn about the fundamentals of food safety so that you can protect yourself,
your friends, family and people in your community and by drinking properly treated water
will help to prevent such diseases.
In relation with Oral Rehydration Therapy, ORT Department of Management Studies of
St. Mary’s College, Thrissur organised an awareness programme about the topic ‘Water
Borne Diseases’ at Jubilee Hall on 26th October 2018. Dr.Prashanth (RMO), Mr. Varghese
(Health Inspector), Ms. Sreeparvathy (Sptd.Nurse) were the delegates who came for the
event, in which Dr. prashanth (RMO), addressed the issue. Duration of the programme was
about 2 hours. All 1st year degree students of BBA, B.COM, B.VOC and BSW departments
of our college participated throughout the session actively. Students were given a detailed
class about water borne diseases, how it’s caused, how can we overcome these diseases?
The class threw light on various diseases which was eradicated from the world due to
advancement in the medical field. It gave insights as to how we could find ways to sway
them away. The class helped them to grow an awareness program about the self hygiene
to be maintained in life.
Poster making and exhibition on management and women entrepreneurship
STEM related fields are heavily populated by men, and women are extremely
underrepresented. Many people believe this issue to be getting better, and although
it may be, it is still a large issue that must be addressed on a larger scale. From a
study done in 2010 by AAUW, it seems as though the underrepresentation stems
from societal norms that cause barriers. Some of these barriers include stereotypes
and gender bias. But one of the most important aspects that is often not recognized
as much is that some of these barriers come from the way that engineering and
mathematics programs at universities are geared more towards men. An example
outlined in this study was that a woman going into a math exam naturally feels more
pressure due to the idea that men are better at math, and the environment of being
in a room with more men would subconsciously affect performance as well. In
addition, women having the ability to get out of the mindset that they have a fixed
amount of intelligence is imperative in achieving more in the scientific world. There
are hundreds of peer-reviewed research papers written focusing on many different
aspects of education, specifically regarding STEM, that explain the implicit bias
against women. For example, a review, “Males under-estimate academic
performance of their female peers in undergraduate biology classrooms”, stated that
men rank their fellow male classmates as more knowledgeable than their female
peers.
Management is a daily task but it can be done efficiently when there is proper
training and education on it. Department of Management Studies of St. Mary’s
college Thrissur conducted a poster making and exhibition. The title of the activity
was “Poster making and exhibition on management and women
entrepreneurship.” The main aim was to propagate management concepts and
entrepreneurial traits in students in the campus, on 29th November 2018, also to
make them familiarize with the famous women entrepreneurs of Indian Business
scenario.
TAX TIME 11/12/2018
Income Tax Return is the form in which assessee files information about his Income and
tax thereon to Income Tax Department. Various forms are ITR 1, ITR 2, ITR 3, ITR 4, ITR
5, ITR 6 and ITR 7. When you file a belated return, you are not allowed to carry forward
certain losses.
The Income Tax Act, 1961, and the Income Tax Rules, 1962, obligates citizens to file
returns with the Income Tax Department at the end of every financial year. These returns
should be filed before the specified due date. Every Income Tax Return Form is applicable
to a certain section of the Assessees. Only those Forms which are filed by the eligible
Assessees are processed by the Income Tax Department of India. It is therefore imperative
to know which particular form is appropriate in each case. Income Tax Return Forms vary
depending on the criteria of the source of income of the Assessee and the category of the
Assessee.
Income Tax filing is the prime duty of every citizen in a country. To implant this knowledge
Department of Management Studies organized a session named “Tax Time”on 11/12/2018
at Chavara Seminar hall. Mr. Rajeev CMA and Mr.Jagadeesh CMA were the resource
persons for the session. They introduced the different slabs in tax filing and they also
described the importance of tax filing. All of our second year students actively attended
the session.
The programme was very informative and successful.
PARTICIPATION IN LEADERSHIP EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
AT NEHRU SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT, PAMPADY
Final year graduates of Department of Management Studies of St Mary’s College
participated in the leadership empowerment program organized by Nehru School of
Management, Thiruwilwamala. It was on 12/12/2018. The students had an enlighting
session with a talk by Prof Alex Kuruvila, Senior Faculty of the college. It was followed
by two tasks – building the tallest structure with straw in 10 minutes and making
commercial project plan with paper planes. The tasks were enthusiastically completed by
the students, who had a real experience on how the leadership skills are going to be
beneficial for an individual and a team.
AWARENESS CLASS ON PERSONAL HYGIENE AT
ANGANVADI 18/01/2019
Apart from entrepreneurial traits, Department of Management Studies of St. Mary’s
College motivate their students to be socially responsible. Involving young people in
important community activities is growing in popularity. Through this involvement, the
youths are able to contribute positively to the development of their communities. Engaging
in social responsible activities also is seen as offering them an alternative to destructive
activities, such as drug and alcohol abuse. The idea of social responsibility is aimed at
developing the youths' social skills to appreciate the community, the environment and their
participation in the social and political processes.
Youth social responsibility involves developing a sense of commitment to the community.
From this commitment, youths are then able to engage in activities such as organizing
campaigns around certain societal issues, caring for the homeless, sick or elderly. Youths
who participate in such activities have been found to demonstrate better social skills in how
they interact with others in their community. They also have higher levels of civil
awareness and problem-solving skills. Engaging in social responsible activities also
increases career opportunities and higher academic achievement.
A team each from BBA 3rd year and 2nd year visited Government Anganvadi at
Venginissery and Pazhayannur on 18th January 2019. Our students distributed chocolates,
colouring books and crayons to the kids. The motive of the team was to give awareness
about personal hygiene to kids. It included the need for washing the hands properly before
and after food and toileting, regular bath on every day, covering hands while coughing etc.
As a part of imparting knowledge to others, the grass root level was selected. Government
Anganvadi was an apt selection for it. Students got to know how the small kids can be
educated for the well being of the future generations. They also recognized value of their
contribution to the community health and hygiene.
OLD AGE HOME VISIT 21-01-2019
We live in a world full of splendid things on one side, and on another side there is deep
darkness. That darkness led some people to earn their livings in an unfair way. Right now
there are millions of people living their lives on the footpath. We watch them from a
distance while passing in a car and wonder in what condition they are going through. But
could you remember; have you ever taken any action to help them? Have we ever taken
care of them? Have we ever tried to heal them with our kindness? Kindness is the action to
show them that you care and you want to love them more than they deserve. Kindness is
the most valuable traits that can be seen and felt by the blinds and heard by the deaf. People
would forget their pain with the flow of time but never forget the small kindness you
shower upon them.
Department of Management Studies of St. Mary’s College not only train their students to
do Business, but also we induce them to be kind and generous with their fellow beings.
Our department has organized a visit to Government Old Age Home, Ramavarmapuram
on 21st January 2019. It’s a yearly initiative by the department as a part of planting empathy
towards the depended and elderly citizens of the society. Monetary contributions were
collected from the students along with daily use items such as tooth paste, brush, soap and
bath towels for the inmates.
Students performed many entertaining programmes for them. It was very heart touching
when few of the inmates shared their experience on how their children left them in the old
age home. Students promised them that they will never do such things to their family
members.
We should keep in mind that we are not going to be remembered by our wealth, we will
live through our kind deeds .
MANAGEMENT QUIZ COMPETITION
Department of Management Studies initiated a quiz program for scholars on 13th February
2019.Selected students from all 1st year 2nd year and 3rd year students participated in the
event. The main focus was to enrich the team by assigning the team leadership to the
scholars. The students were instructed to prepare on management topics and current affairs.
This would also help them in preparation for MBA entrance examinations and interviews.
(Photographs are attached below)
KARUNADRAM
According to the concept of social responsibility the objective of managers for
taking business decisions is not merely to maximize profits or shareholders' value but also
to serve and protect the interests of other members of a society such as workers, consumers
and the community as a whole. Social commitment is an important feature of a successful
manager. Social responsibility is a duty every individual has to perform so as to maintain a
balance between the economy and the ecosystems. A trade-off may exist between economic
development, in the material sense, and the welfare of the society and environment, though
this has been challenged by many reports over the past decade.
We, Department of Management Studies focus on building a committed group of managers,
right from the campus.
As a part of this, the Department is always connected with the Karunardram programme
of giving food packets to the hunger and needy. It was on 27th July 2018 and 15th February
2019 that our students were ready with the food packets for this mission. Some brought
the packets from their homes, while some bought it from the canteen by paying for it.
There were 110 food packets each time. They enthusiastically took the responsibility of
neatly arranging and packing the packs, so that it was carried easily to the needy hands.
TALK ON WOMEN RIGHTS
Women's rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide,
and which formed the basis for the women's rights movement in the 19th century
and feminist movement during the 20th century. In some countries, these rights are
institutionalized or supported by law, local custom, and behavior, whereas in others they
are ignored and suppressed. They differ from broader notions of human rights through
claims of an inherent historical and traditional bias against the exercise of rights by women
and girls, in favor of men and boys.
Issues commonly associated with notions of women's rights include the right to bodily
integrity and autonomy; to be free from sexual violence; to vote; to hold public office; to
enter into legal contracts; to have equal rights in family law; to work; to fair wages or equal
pay; to have reproductive rights; to own property; to education and etc.
The Department of Management Studies of St.Mary’s College Thrissur organized a talk
about the topic “Women Rights” on 29th March 2019 at St. Joseph’s seminar hall. The
resource person for the programme was Advocate Sri. K G Satheesan. The programme
began at 2.00pm and ended up at 3.15pm. 1st year and 2nd year BBA students participated
in the event.
All women are valuable, capable, powerful, strong and women will not be silenced was the
end note of the programme
