Annual Events at the National Level
The Department of Economics, St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata
organized the thirteenth edition of its Annual Economics Summit-Confluence
on the 5th of October, 2018. The theme for Confluence XIII, a National level
Economics Summit, was ‘Indian Economy: Which Way Now?’’ Confluence
XIII was graced by Prof. Rajat Acharyya, Professor of Economics, Jadavpur
University, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Father Principal, Rev. Dr.
Dominic Savio S.J. and Prof. Rajat Acharyya inaugurated Confluence XIII and
shared their insights regarding the theme of the event. The 18th edition of the
Consultancy Services undertaken by the departmental
members
Other events included two flagship events- ‘Domino
Effect’ and ‘Conundrum’ and a couple of online events like
“Writer’s Blog” and “Treasure Trove”. All these events
were extremely challenging and saw participation from
students in huge numbers. The summit also comprised of
debate and quiz which sought to strengthen the spirit of inquiry and reason
within the participants. There was a session on mock stock trading which was
equally engaging. A technical session chaired by Prof. Malabika Roy (Jadavpur
University) where faculty members and Ph. D scholars had a platform for
presenting their research work was introduced for the first time in Confluence
XIII. Confluence XIII saw the participation of colleges from across the country.
departmental magazine, ‘Eco Echoes’ was also launched during the programme.
The Panel Discussion witnessed the stalwarts of the economic circle of India
exchanging their views on the topic “Indian Economy: Which Way
Now?’’Moderated by Rev. Dr. Felix Raj S.J., this discussion saw the
participation f Prof. Ajitava Raychaudhuri (Jadavpur University), Prof.
Mrityonjoy Mohanty (IIM-C), Dr. Rohit (JNU) and Dr. Subhanil Chowdhury
(IDSK, Kolkata) which immensely benefitted the audience
during the session. One of the most intellectually
stimulating events of the summit was ‘Exposition-Paper
Presentation’ where students made use of their analytical
skills and theoretical knowledge to delve deep into the
issues of contemporary relevanoce.
