* In order to be eligible to receive a grade higher than “Pass” for the clerkship a student MUST:

Submit the Abdominal and Vascular Examination Card by the end of the rotation

Complete the mandatory case log on E*value & WISE-MD Cases by the end of the rotation

Complete weekly duty hour log on E*Value by each Tuesday (100% completion) and all duty hours completely

logged by the end of the rotation

HIGH PASS 8 to 11 points

PASS -6 to 7 points

CONDITIONAL **

** A grade of conditional is given if the student’s grade for the NBME examination is more than two standard deviations below the national mean

of 70. A passing grade is 55. If a re-examination is required and approved by the MSEC board, the same minimum score of 55 will be necessary in order

to receive a final grade of “Conditional/Pass.”

** A grade of conditional is given to a student who fails the clinical General Surgery rotation. A student may not be able to sit for the NBME

examination in this event. This will be up to the discretion of the Director of Undergraduate Surgical Education.

*** A grade of Fail is given if the student’s grade for NBME Examination is more than two standard deviations below the mean. For the NBME

Examination it is two standard deviations of 70. For the GW Practical Examination, a grade of Fail is given if your score merits –2 points.

**** If you disagree with your final grade or evaluation and believe that it is inaccurate or unfairly arrived at, you can appeal by written letter or email

to Dr. Vaziri or Robert. You will have two weeks from the date you receive your grade by email from Robert. Dr. Vaziri reviews all appeals and you will

receive notification of his decision. You can refer to the rules of appeal on the medical school regulations manual. Written examinations cannot be

contested.
