The executive department of the

Philippine government which is

responsible for the coordination of

science and related-projects.

It is also in-charge of formulating

programs, projects and policies to

support national progress.

It was formerly called as the National Science

Development Board in 1958 that authorized to survey

the state and development of science and

technology.

Then it became National Science and Technology or

NSTA.

In 1987, it was raised to cabinet-level status to

become the present-day DOST.

Functions

1. Formulate and adopt a comprehensive

National Science and Technology Plan,

and monitor and coordinate its funding

and implementation.

2. Promote, assist and, where

appropriate, undertake scientific and

technological research and development

in areas identified as vital to the

country's development.

3. Promote the development of

indigenous technology and the

adaptation and innovation of suitable

imported technology, and in this

regard, undertake technology

development up to commercial stage.

4. Undertake design and engineering

works to complement research and

development functions.

5. Promote, assist and, where

appropriate, undertake the transfer of

the results of scientific and

technological research and development

to their end-users.

that enable the agriculture sector to

raise productivity to world-class

standards.

2. Innovative, cost-effective and

appropriate technologies that enable

MSMEs to develop and produce

competitive products that meet world-

DOST-funded R&D Project Develops Cheaper Air Pollution Sensor

The air pollution sensor will measure ambient concentrations of sulfur dioxide, ozone and nitrogen dioxide.
