TAMU EMAIL

Every. Single. Day.

Page 7: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

EMAIL ETTIQUETTE

● You must ALWAYS and ONLY use your TAMU email.

● Your email must ALWAYS include a signature that has your first/last name, UIN,

and major and track. Easiest way is to set up an automatic signature.

● Please allow at least 24-48 hours for a response. DO NOT resend the same email

multiple times within this time period.

● Include a brief reason for your email in the subject line.

● DO NOT reply to a mass email; begin a new email.

● DO NOT use abbreviated texting language.

● DO NOT forward your email to another account

(i.e. yahoo, gmail, etc.).

● You will get LOTS of emails. Clean out your inbox DAILY!

● You expect me to read your emails, so I expect you to read mine!

● Always use appropriate, professional language when emailing instructors or

administration. Do not use their first names in an email, say “Hey!”, or other too casual verbiage that can be interpreted as disrespectful.

● Remember an email lives forever. THINK before you send!!

Page 9: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

ADVISING● Although peers and upper classmen can be a good source

of some information, remember …they are not the

advisor and often give incorrect information.

● ALWAYS check the accuracy of the information!!

● Requirements are different for different majors and catalogs.

Page 10: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

ADVISING

Contact me early regarding ANY

problems. I can’t help after the fact.

I am here to help navigate the degree requirements and make suggestions,

but the ultimate responsibility is yours

.

The College of Architecture is a NO PROBATION college

Page 11: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

ADVISING HOLD

● Every student will need to make a registration advising appointment each semester.

● I will send out a schedule of the timeframe in which you should plan to come.

● Any student who does not come see me will have a HOLD put on their registration

and will have to wait until Open Registration after everyone else has registered.

What if I told you

you have a choice…

Page 15: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

.

Cura Personalis = take care of the whole personIf you don’t deal with the whole person, it is simply training

Please remember college is about much more than just meeting the academic requirements.

WHO do you want to be when you grow up, not WHAT do you want to be.

URBAN PLANNING

● All courses under the heading of MAJOR COURSEWORK or

Supporting Coursework must have a grade of C or higher.

● Although your courses are not as strictly sequential as LAND, there are some courses that mustbe taken in order.

● Design is more sequential than Policy

● Decide if you are more interested in policy or design

Page 32: Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

URBAN PLANNING TRACKS

● Policy Track - deals more with data collecting, working with elected officials

and community members, analyzing and then coming up with solutions or future

plans. Basically the final product is a written report that includes GIS mapping

to the client who will use it to move forward in their community.

● Design Track - Design deals with taking the analyzed data and visualizing

those problem fixes or future plans in the form of a visual design --- much like

Landscape Architects or Architects. This track would include more studio courses,

more digital communication, more drawing, and more GIS in order to create the

finish product of a design for the client to follow. This track is more sequential.
