SPRING 2020 HIGHLIGHTS

GLOBAL STUDENT CHALLENGE

On February 8, Supply Chain studentsfrom CPP, CSU Fullerton, and NorthernArizona University participated in theGlobal Student Challenge. Participantshad been preparing

for months to learn a simulation thatwould test their Supply Chain skills. During

the competition, there were 4 rounds thatstudents went through to try to achieve

the highest ROI. The winners from NAUand the top team from CPP qualified to participate in the GSC in the Netherlands,

which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19.

CSCMP EVENTOn May first, The Council of Supply Chain

Management Professionals (CSCMP) of CPP held aspeaker panel webinar. They discussed the current

state of Supply Chain and how it is impacted byCOVID. Their panel of speakers included Dr. He

and Amy Grat, CEO of EXP. CSCMP eBoardmembers Ying Want, Trent Martin, and Robert

Reardon ran and moderated the event to make it an insightful experience for attendees.

MEET & MATCH FALL 2019

On November 8th the OMS club andTOM Department hosted the first everMeet & Match event. There were manydifferent companies represented at theevent: Niagara, Target, PerformanceTeam, Farmer's Insurance, Central Pet &Garden, Applied Medical, and City ofHope. Students had the opportunity tomeet in small groups with all theserecruiters in addition to one on one timeafter the event.

The first networking event of the yearstarted off with the Advice from AlumniPanel. The OMS club had 3 CPP alumniat different stages in their careers tospeak to OMS students on a Fridayevening in the BSC. The panel includedJeff Rand from Performance team, GregBoucher from Niagara Bottling, and EddySaar from Northrop Grumman. Studentslearned a lot about life after graduationand different fields of supply chain.

VIRTUAL ZOOM ROUNDTABLEVIRTUAL ZOOM ROUNDTABLE

The OMS club hosted a virtual roundtableevent over zoom. They used the breakoutrooms feature to place students withOMS/TOM alumni. Groups rotatedto ensure that everyone can connectwith each other. There were manyparticipants who all got a lot out of theevent!

Congratulations to the exceptional number of TOM/EBZ students who received internships and joboffers!

Ying Wang is aninternational student fromChina. She is also thepresident of the Cal PolyChapter of CSCMP.Through CSCMPnetworking, she got aposition as a Quality &Kaizen analyst at YusenLogistics, in Long Beach.She is responsible forsupporting and drivingquality and Kaizen programinitiatives, sourcing andvetting vendors,negotiating contracts andpresenting deals to Yusen'sleadership in finance,operations, businessdevelopment & quality.

Andy Garcia will beworking at DHL as anOperations Supervisor. Hisrole will be to work withother Ops Supervisors tofind faster solutions to cutoff any ineffective time.Andy was apart of DHL'ssummer internshipprogram, and he made aconnection with his teamwhich led him to his offer.During his internship, heperformed documentreviews, created a 5S planfor the Campbell's facilityand presented a programwith a team of 6 interns toDHL executives inColumbus, OH.

Jean Minasian will beinterning virtually withAmazon this summerduring the globalpandemic. he will beexposed to operationsleadership, and skillstraining with real Amazoncase studies to solve. Hewill also be given thechance to network withAmazonians and internsacross the globe. Eachweek they will get to listento business leaders giveadvice, followed by casestudies to provide arealistic job preview of theorganization.

FACULTY HIGHLIGHTSFACULTY HIGHLIGHTSThe department has two new Tenure Track faculty joining us in the fall. Both newfaculty have strong academic backgrounds and have expertise in Supply ChainManagement and Business Analytics.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics program is planned to launch in Fall 2021(pending final approval- stay tuned). The Department is also preparing for another

Master of Science in Digital Supply Chain Management program, which is under theapproval process

TOM Faculty Dr. Yazdani published a new article "What if Hotelling's Firms Can MassCustomize?" on leading journal, Decision Sciences Journal.
