l The officers and officials of Administrative Department (FW&F) celebrated a day to promote Dengue prevention measures and also cleaned their offices. Dr. Aamir Ahmad, Secretary FW&F Department, issued various instructions to Deputy Secretary and Section Officer (General) and Head of Departments. Mr. Shabbeer Ahmad Rana, CCF, Central Zone, Lahore, inspected the Forest Complex to check preventive measures against the Dengue fever alongwith Dr. Muhammad Akmal Rahim Syed, DFO, Tariq Naseem, DFO, and Kamran Babar, DFO. He appreciated the staff for their efforts in carrying out Dengue prevention measures in the office premises.l A walk was also organized by the Punjab Forest Department on the preventive measures of Dengue fever. The walk, led by Shabbeer Ahmad Rana, CCF, CZ alongwith Dr. Muhammad Akmal Rahim Syed, DFO, Naseem Chohan, DFO, Kamran Babar DFO Abdul Jabbar, DOF, Lahore started from Forest Complex, 24 Cooper Road and ended on Mall Road (Assembly Hall). The staff of various offices of Forest Complex joined the walk.

A Briefing was given to Major Shahnawaz Badar (R), Secretary, Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries Department, by Mr. Shahid Rasheed Awan, Deputy Secretary, (Planning), FW&F Deptt., in the office of Developnment & Working Plan Circle, Lahore. Mr. Abdul Basit, Conservator of Forests, Development & Working Plan Circle, Lahore, assisted Geographic Information System (GIS) staff of Development and Working Plan Circle, Lahore in collaboration with PFRI Gatwala at Faisalabad are conducting GIS Training at Circle level. The training session of Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Bahawalpur and Multan Circles have been completed. The officers and field staff participated. The participants are being acquainted with basics of Geographic Information System (GIS) as under:-(i) Introduction to GIS, (ii) GIS data collection, (iii) GIS data model queering, (iv) Maps preparation and analysis, (v) Introduction to Google Earth, (vi) Use of Compass, (vii) Field data collection by GPS, (viii) Analyzing Revenue record and forest boundary register, (ix) GPS practicalMr. Muhammad Abdul Basit, Conservator of Forests, D&WP Circle, Lahore Rai Rafique Ahmad, Senior Research Officer, Extension and Training PFRI, Mr. Feroz-ud-Din, Divisional Forest Officer, D&WP Division-II, Mr. Faisal Masood, GIS Manager, Miss Mehwish, Data Analyst, Mr. Amir Shehzad and Amjad Saeed, Assistant Research Officer, Extension and Training PFRI Gatwala are conducting these training sessions. GIS training of DG Khan and Rawalpind Circle shall be held on 5-6 March 2013 and 12-13 March respectively.

l A lecture was delivered on Forest protection by Dr. Muhammad Akmal Rahim Syed, DFO Publicity & Extension Division followed by a tree planting ceremony inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Butt principal Post Graduate Degree College Town Ship along with all Heads of Departments as well as students.l A lecture on the 'Importance of Forestry in the economy of the country and conservation of Biodiversity' was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Akmal Rahim Syed, DFO Publicity & Extension Division in Education University, Okara Campus, arranged by the DFO Okara, Mr. Nawaz Sindillah, who introduced a course on Forestry in the syllabus of Botany in this University. Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Associate Professor acted as coordinator.

l Noor-ul-Amin Mengal District Coordination Officer (DCO), Lahore inaugurated spring tree planting campaign, 2013, by planting a tree sapling in the Lawn of Town Hall Lahore, after which he addressed a conference, where he suggested that all Heads of Education Departments should plant trees. Dr. Muhammad Akmal Rahim Syed, DFO Publicity & Extension Division and Abdul Jabbar DOF, Lahore, were also present alongwith staff of Publicity & Extension Forest Division. Publicity material regarding importance of forestry was displayed to enhance awareness of people from different walks of life.l Tree Planting Campaign for Spring 2013 was inaugurated by Mr. Shaukat Ali, Commissioner and Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmed, DCO Mianwali on 15.02.2013 by planting Aerocaria Plant at Rose Garden in the premises of DCO Office. Sheikh Muhammad Azam, EDO Agri Mianwali, Malik Muhammad Saleem, DOF Mianwali and other District & Revenue Officers participated. The Commissioner and DCO emphasized on meeting the Tree Plantation Target in the District Mianwali by involving all the Government, Non Government and Private Sectors. The DOF informed that large number of potted plants and stumps are available for meeting the target.l Mr. Nawaz Sindhillah, DFO, Okara arranged a tree planting ceremony at Forest Park, Head Sulemanki, where Mr. Abdul Rahim Syed, Former Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Water and Co-chairman of Pak-India International Rivers Commission, planted a tree alongwith students of Lahore Medical & Dental College.
