1. About Demographic Update and UCL (Update Client Lite)
The residents who would have got enrolled with AADHAAR enrollment process may have some
information to be corrected either demographic or biometric. Demographic details likes:
Address
Name
Gender
Mobile number or Email
Age/DOB
PIN
It is equally important for the resident to update the central repository to avail the AADHAAR benefits.
Update process is required to enable the residents to request for the updates in the system.
The UCL allows to updates only on demographic details. For biometric details update, the resident
should visit an enrolment centre where Standard Update Client and necessary infrastructure is available.
The biometric data of user is expected to identify a user uniquely and is not changed naturally for a long
period of time, whereas the demographic details can change multiple times without any hard conditions, it
would be expected that residents will have to update their demographic data in the central repository
much frequently than the biometric data. This would require large scale deployment of update centers to
cater to the need of demographic updates. These updates are not as sensitive as the biometric updates
from security and identity perspective and hence certainly have different need from authentication
measures perspective. Even within demographic details, email address, mobile number and PIN are the
fields that do not need any verification or proof apart from resident authentication and hence can be
updated instantly in an online mode.
Update process using UCL allows the resident to update the demographic details if any after the resident
has been allotted an AADHAAR number. Update process accepts the details as requested by the
resident, authenticates the details with resident’s single fingerprint bio-metric and sends it to the server to
be updated in the central repository. Update process up-dates the details and generates a print receipt
bearing the changes which have been requested by the resident.
