Mechanical Speed LimiterShould the attached end effector lose its load, or in case of a cable failure, the Mechanical Speed Limiter will stop any high speed upward movement that isunsafe for the operator. This feature isstandard equipment on all Balancers.

Cable GuideDue to a special cable guide, the cablealways enters the Demag Air Balancer atthe same spot. The cable will not travelsideways during a lift operation. Thus truevertical lift is provided as a standardfeature.

Real world performanceThe Demag Air Balancer can operate atspeeds up to 400 ft/min (~60 m/min), with a duty factor of 100%. Depending on what type of Balancer (DBS 55 or DBS 110) the safe workload ranges from 0 –125 lbs or 0 – 250 lbs.

SuspensionThe Suspension Kit (sold separately) consists of two KBK Trolleys and a Load Bar. Universal Load Bars are also available so that the Balancer can be suspendedfrom the trolleys of other enclosed trackmanufacturers.

Cover The sturdy metal cover protects both thebalancer and controls from environmentaldamage.

Controls Space and Mounting PlateThe enclosed control space providesample room for all available controls,while keeping them safe fromenvironmental contaminates.

DriveThe Demag Air Balancer is equipped with a cable drum which is driven bycompressed air. To lift a load, air is fedinto the cylinder which in turn sets thepiston in motion. The moving pistoncauses the cable drum to rotate via theball screw arrangement –the Balancerthen lifts its load.

To lower the load, you simply reduce theair pressure and the process is reversed.

By regulating the air flow, a number offunctions can be performed. These rangefrom simple up/down operations toseemingly weightless handling of loads(zero-g control).

Up/Down control in DSK handleThe standard control of the Demag AirBalancer is the ergonomically designedDSK control pendant. Depending on howmuch you press the control buttons, thepatented valve blocks control the lifting orlowering speed with unsurpassedsensitivity and infinite adjustability. The bigadvantage over a chain hoist is that oncethe operator positions the load using thependent, he can perform final positioningby simply moving the load by hand. Thecushion of air in the balancer can becompressed, allowing load to be movedapproximately 4" up or down.

Speed adjustment is possible by openingthe DSK protective cover and accessing thescrews on the valve block. This makesadjustment easy yet tamper proof.

Load hookThe Up/Down Balancer comes standardwith a Bullard safety lock hook.

Pneumatic Speed LimiterThe Speed Limiter is standard equipment inthe Up/Down Balancer. Its patented valvetechnology insures that the load hookmoves at a speed which is always safe forthe operator. The maximum speed islimited under the full load range of thebalancer, even if there is nothingsuspended from the hook.

Unlike the speed limiters of other balancersthe Pneumatic Speed Limiter will operateunder constant usage, without requiringservice, for the lifetime of the Balancer.

…for two alternating loads…The Dual Balance Control is perfect foroperations which require the lifting andplacing of parts of a constant weight. The first load to be balanced is the weightof a custom end effector (grabbing device).The second load, is the weight of that endeffector, plus the part to be lifted. Thebalancer utilizes a signal from the endeffector to switch between these twobalancing modes.

…for a constant load …In case you lift the same thing all the time,a Demag Air Balancer with Single BalanceControl provides fast and safe support. Itwill keep a constantly attached load, like aweld gun or a nut runner, in perfect balance.The seemingly weightless load is easilyhandled and brought into exact position.

Always where you left itOne of the remarkable advantages of theHand Force Control is, once a load is left inbalance, it will remain at its position. Youcan even exchange the load or change itsweight (by filling, draining, unloading orloading) and the load stays in its initialposition!

Float control featureIn case you need to handle your loaddirectly, the Hand Force Control can beswitched to ”float mode.“ You can touchyour load with both hands while guiding itin to place and making final adjustmentswith great precision. This is especially usefulwhen handling raw materials, unfinishedgoods, or during assembly processes withcritical joining operations.

Quick disconnectThe Hand Force Control handle comes witha Demag quick connect interface. Standardload attachments are easily exchanged. The interface also allows the connection ofspecial end effectors.

Additional safety featuresTwo additional safety features providemaximum safety during your operation: A Safety Release Interlock and Safety LiftInterlock. The Safety Release Interlock willkeep the loads locked in the end effectoruntil they safely rest on solid ground. In reverse the Safety Lift Interlock willsuspend any further operation until theload is safely held in the end effector.

Standard or individual control settingsYour Demag Air Balancer is of courseimmediately fully operational. But if desired,a small hand held terminal will allow youto specifically adjust the control settingsand functions. Guided by a simple menu,you can access the Balancer configurationand perform the desired changes online.You can immediately test the changes andmake modifications if necessary.

TrolleysDemag KBK Trolleys are fitted with 4 plastic travel wheels mounted on anti-friction bearings resulting in ease of movement and smooth runningcharacteristics. The rollers aremaintenance-free and low wearing. If only vertical loads occur, Demag KBKClassic Trolleys are used. Loads areconnected via a flexible and torque-freepin arrangement. For rigidly connectedloads that induce upward and lateralforces, ergo trolleys are used.
